Before Angelina, I used to think that all of those performers were great. I still think that they are good, but Angelina is truly great....

In my opinion, this was Angelina's breakout song. After this performance, I no longer thought of her as a child singer.

Dinah and Billie Holiday were the two that affected Angelina the most. Once she heard them, she knew it was jazz that she loved the best. She can do virtually any genre to perfection but jazz is in her bones !

I can listen to this performance by Angelina a million times and it never ceases to amaze me, her voice kind of envelopes me as a warm blanket. If this performance was recorded and sold, it should be a number one hit and live forever. Jerry Larocque said it perfectly, this was the moment when she established herself as a wonderful artist, not just a child singer. It is a common place to say but I'll say it. Her music comes directly from her soul! This kind of gift can't be taught, it just is part of Angelina.

She often plays homage to the originals she covers and this is a perfect example. She performed it in the style of the original. In my opinion, she followed the original but did it better with her own subtle interpretations. She can hold her own with anyone living or dead and I'm glad I get to hear her sing.

Thanks for this journey through the history of this song. This one performance, changed my view of Angelina, from being an amazing child singer to becoming a professional artist, irrespective of age. I can happily listen to this each and every day, it never fails to lift my spirits.

I listened closely to all those famous singers, but it was only when Angelina sang the first phrase that I felt the chill bumps rise and tears immediately came into my eyes. I’m glad you made this comparison, because it just reinforced my belief in her amazing God-given, anointed talent.

You hear that beautiful introduction, then AJ sings that first line and you are instantly stopped in your tracks, transfixed, transported. No question, the best version of this song ever done.

Thanks for doing this Nate. I only found Angelina fumbling through the net about 6months ago. Having just discovered reactions, I was watching reactions to Bohemian Rhapsody and I guess I saw AJ's version and decided to check it out. I'd forgotten that I saw her on AGT. Then I saw "Spell" and then hooked! Can't get enough and my wife says I'm obsessed. She just has me under her spell with the way she gets to my emotions. At 65 I've never experienced anything like it. btw My favorite singer has been Haley Reinhart for several years, since she was on American Idol around 10 years ago. Haley is now 2nd lol

Many reactors talk about how fantastic she is at 6, 7, 8, or 9. But what was her mental and emotional age when she sang these early performances? The story of her giving her shoes away at 6 is an indication she had an exceptional maturity even then. She carried that forward in her early works. So despite her young age (In an interview, She said "I only feel 12 (young) when I look at my passport."), she has had a maturity of personality and skill that shines through, demonstrating a vibrant authenticity one can only marvel at. What a blessing to the world!

I watched all the other singers, and I didn’t get chills or my eyes didn’t well up with tears until Angelina started singing. That’s the difference! Her emotions go straight from her heart to our hearts. Also, I noticed that she took it down even slower than Dinah did. She always slows it down, is never in a hurry, and is not afraid of “dead space.” We also need to keep in mind that she’s eight years old here, not in her 30’s, 40’s, 50’s or 60’s! She doesn’t have years and years of experience singing or being in front of a large audience. How is all this even possible? It’s only a gift from God!

At age 15 she should be much more famous than she is. She is a U Tube star, but she should be a international Jazz Star. She is so much better than all the other new talent out there because she is different. She is Unique She has 2+ million views for her new single "MILLION MILES" in 4 months, but it should have been much more. We have been waiting for a new album from Angelina ever since AGT Champions 2020 . We even hoped for a Christmas album.

Very superb reaction Nate, You have voiced exactly what I have observed in the 12 to 13 years I have followed Angelina I have been astonished by her abilities and flat-out professionalism regardless of age. I'm 79 years old and have never done this with any artist I grew up in a time of plenty when it came to entertainers and vocalists with an abundance of them being very good to outstanding but no one has affected me as Angelina has, she is truly a prodigy and a gift from the universe for all.

Your mention of phrasing brings me back again to something I have thought for a long time about her performances. The more Angelina makes a song 'her own', the more it feels like she is having a conversation with you - unscripted, honest, heartfelt, comforting.

Nate, like you I have been binge watching Angelina’s performances for over a year now and there are common reactor’s comments and opinions that are repeated over and over again. One of the most widely expressed opinions is “She’s an old soul.” or “How?! How can a child this young be able to sing a such an advanced level?” There is also the question asked, “How is it possible for a child this young to even comprehend and understand the adult content of the lyrics?” When I look at what Angelina, the person, has accomplished so far in her young life I have come to the conclusion that Angelina is endowed with a genius level intellect, hyper sensitivity, feel and acute level of self awareness, instincts and intuition. There is no better example of the accumulation of those attributes than her six year old studio performance of, Tom Jones’, “I who have nothing.” Many reactors rightly comment on Angelina nearly incomprehensible jaw dropping singing ability. However, what so many of them overlook is the fact that six year old Angelina is reading the adult level lyrics while singing. If you watch a reaction of that performance with subtitles you will see that Angelina was questioning her performance. The engineer assured her that it was a good performance. IMO, there are a great many very talented and outstanding young singers, none of them I have heard are Angelina’s equal. The vast majority of them do not write their own songs or arrangements to others. They also tend to stay within one musical genre. Angelina is the most uniquely gifted and versatile young musical prodigy I have ever seen and heard. She is the complete package. She is a singer, song writer and composer. How many of the young singers out there can say that they wrote and recorded four songs by the time they were twelve years old? How many of them have the ability to rewrite the arrangements to cover sings?

Angelina is a polished professional genius that has been wowing crowds since she was 6 years old. All of the professional voice teachers who have reacted to AJ over the years have been astonished at her abilities and find it difficult to describe her because they have never experienced anyone like her.

Your commentary is just beautiful. You have nailed her essence... singing from the space of now and bringing the audience with her. That is her power.

Angelina's performance is closest to Dinah Washington's. But Angelina softens the vocals, which in my opinion pulls you in more, emotionally. How an eight year old girl can do that, blows me away. She sings it, like she has lived it.

for me it was an amazing 6 years of listening to her (I was lucky to find her right next to Evancho, Janeckova, Amira ..) Angelina is like a breeze, unobtrusive but pleasant, you can believe her every word .. I believe that this fluid will remain what longest ..

I have yet to lose my sense of utter astonishment at how incredible this young lady sounds. One of my favorite lines from Angelina is when she sings, "Skies above can't be stormy" at 15:32. It kills me every time! Don't forget to include the Rod Stewart version on your CD.

Nate Vibe, like you & I think everyone else who listens to this incredible singer I struggled to put words to what it is about Angelina's singing that leaves us smiling, laughing in disbelief (like you just were) that a young girl can possibly be so good. Yes Dinah Washington has a lovely voice & whoever chose her to sing it very cleverly knew that the pitch of her voice & ability to tell the story of the lyrics in the style she sings would make it a highly successful writer/ singer partnership. Angelina however goes beyond that & gently reaches into our inner self, our souls & caresses our emotions in a way that very few singers can do.

Nate, when it's her turn you just smile shake your head and listen to something so beautiful it's almost beyond belief. She was meant to sing this song. Huh? Just listen and tell me it wasn't. Was being eight years old a factor? In Angelina's case, no. How can that be? Answer: Something very special is going on here. Use your wildest imagination and perhaps you are right. How can an eight year old girl touch "millions" of people's hearts and souls? The most important thing to consider is that Angelina loves to sing and wants you to enjoy her singing and she hopes that she will bring love into your heart.

I did this comparison my self awhile back, I think she's doing Dinah Washingtons version, they're almost identical, except Angie's feels rounder, softer, warmer, better. I often listen to this version, then her version with the opening flowers video, which I think is even better, if that's possible. I'm way good with both and often listen to them one after the other. With Angie I feel like I'm listening to Goodness personified.

Excellent reaction! Yes, Angelina deserves the cake and the fairy on top. I keep a record of those reacting to Angelina and note that your first essay into the world of the most talented and versatile singer in the world was on 10 Aug 2020. Soi just over six months. A little of advice. Be like me and give up trying to understand how Angelina can be so talented and have a musical intelligence far beyond her years. Initially, you repeat the phrase "Because it's Angelina" and after a few times saying that you will realise that one word will suffice. From then on you just say "Angelina" and that covers everything. Believe me, it works :-)

Best FORMAT, REACTION AND ANALYSIS. The time you put into it SHOWS. Thank you. I agree with everything you said 100%. All you can say is that she's a TRUE PRODIGY. I hope she continues to expand her talents(add modeling, dancing, acting, etc.) and try to collaborate with today's LIVING LEGENDS as well. Right now, her market is the 60+ listener who appreciates her interuptive covers of the classics of days gone by. Her own songs are very good, but she needs a proven song writer to pen something for her that will make her a contender in the Grammys. How about a duet with Harry Connick Jr. or doing a cover of Malissa Manchester's 'Don't Cry Out Loud'? Anyway, I guess we'll find out next year, when she graduates from high school at 17! Her future is limitless. Up until now, her family has been trying to give her as normal a childhood as possible, without exploitation. In this next phase, she needs to continue her professional training along with expanding her market appeal by getting into other endeavors like modeling, dancing, even acting, and not just being a Tic Toc celebrity.

While Angelina's stellar vocal capability to deliver such a jazz classic on par with the iconic singers you highlighted is amazing enough it bears mentioning that in this venue she is on a tiny stage in a sea of listeners a dozen meters or more from her backup singers and a dozen more (at least) from the band..talk about being on an island. Yet the 8yo Angelina is utterly unfazed by this, is completely at ease, closes her eyes most of the time, sways back and forth and takes us all on a journey to her special singing place. Wow!
