Warfedale has my vote here for sound. Probably over aesthetics as well if using in a family room. Just sounds like the warfedale plays more notes. more music being given off by them.

As The Listener graduates from the smaller to the larger sizes, I find that as the units get bigger they handle the more complicated and muddy parts better. Definitely the JBL'S are best of all followed by The Wharfedals. I think the room size and the lack of dampening has something to do with the perception of the sound that's we are getting from the different sized cabinets. To me, the LS50'S would be much more suited for an office or a desk situation where the room is not large. I think that the sound would be more profound in a slightly smaller space. All are good especially at the price points!

They're all good sounding speakers depending on every personal listening choice. I have the studio 590 paired to Emotiva XPA using Anthem preamp and I'm so happy with it! I have used and played that same music (Coming Home) with my system seems it's more lively and detailed with no suppression, what I really thought with this demo is the acoustic of the room has played big part of sounds realism. But overall it a nice demo! Thanks Tharbamar....

Love the diversity in the way each company chose to “arrive” at their own awesome musical conclusions! Technology, brilliant minds, and brilliant minds challenging themselves to present each company’s best efforts! Love it! That the Kefs, which would appear to be easily overmatched(at least in the bells and whistles dept.), compete somewhat evenly, and shine in their own ways, is totally amazing to me! The linton's sound great! JBL very good to excellent. The LS50 sounds congested. But I've heard them, great for near-field listening. For my office I preferred Focal aria 906 (more efficient, front port allows placement choices, better bass - in my room, and wider soundstage) But will take a liston to the Linton's now. Thx

The JBL's sound the best to me. The music sounds more lively on them. Perhaps it has something to do with the horn loaded tweeter. They are gorgeous too. The Lintons sound great too, and remind me of the Polk Audio Monitor 7 series, that were popular back in the 80's.

Kef sounded like a portable boom box. It just does not produce a big sound compare to the Linton and JBL's. The Linton and JBL's sounded pretty accurate. Each has a different sound presence. If space were an issue, I would get the Linton. If you want deeper bass, get JBL's.

I liked the Wharfedale's the best. I really liked the "knock" of the bass, especially on the kick drum. It was very tight and defined. The vocals were very forward and present in a way I enjoyed. Surprisingly the JBLs may have been my least favorite. They were actually TOO bassy for my tastes. Or maybe it was that the bass was a little flabby? I also felt that the JBL's frequencies sounded too "separate." At times it felt like the higher pitched instrument were coming from a different speaker. I'd have to hear them live to really know, of course. My headphones are adding their own character.
@chrishernandez2490

I can guarantee that any boominess of the bass your hearing is just due to the fact that you're listening to a recording in a room. I've done a similar recording of my amateur built speakers and the recording made it seem like they had WAY more bass than they actually did. As a big JBL fan, I also agree that the wharfedales sounded sweet! I preferred them to the JBLs as well

The Lintons are the most open and revealing but those JBLs just bring the beef along with the very pleasant highs delivered by those horn loaded tweeters. The JBLs were a little more open in the top end and articulation but I hear a little more hiss so maybe they bumped top end a little more. The Lintons gave them a run for the money. I think for double the price I can turn the treble up a little on the Lintons and match the JBL's. Here's hoping. The Compression Horn Drivers are hard to beat. Thanks for the great comparison. Your subject and the speed with which you set up the comparisons is to be applauded. Bravo.

Bought the Klipsch RP160m When they were on sale a week ago. Just bought the JBL Studio 530 a few days ago. Comparing the two I noticed big differences that are making me want to buy the Studio 590 as soon as they go on sale. The Klipsch have very impressive bass, But when the music is good I find myself increasing the volume wanting more. The Klipsch quickly become fatiguing and harsh on the high tones which is disappointing and prevents me from enjoying them at high volumes. Based on the appearance of the JBL speakers i had expected them to lack bass and be bright on the top. But i am quite pleased to say the opposite. The JBL530 have good bass and relaxed highs. Even at low volumes the bass is clear and detailed. As I increase the volume the character stays the same, Never have the highs sounded harsh or bright on these. The only downside is that I keep wanting more volume out of them but I think I reached the limit on what these small woofers can do. It is time for the big 590's.

The next time they go on sale may be the last time you see the 590 new, looks like they actually are clearing them out, center is out of stock and sub too and neither have come back in stock for a while, I think this is it for the line. The Lintons sound more relaxed. Might be great for vocals and instruments. LS50 ... well ... as usual. It’s that LS50 sound. I find they are great for HT duties and general music listening. The 590 seems to be in between. Might be a good compromise. Got the LS50 recently and was not impressed. It’s not as great as how reviewers rave about it.

Outstanding test. Wished you’d limited it to a couple of minutes per speaker. I’m really torn between them all. The problem with this is that’s is so damned subjective and based on our own experience. I have a high end Naim system where grip, pace, timing and rhythm is everything. I’m really surprised to favor the JBLs. Will be buying the vinyl of this artist. Just an outstanding post, thank you.

1st...The KEFs played decent until the Wharfedale Lintons blew them away and it wasn't even close. Even through the biased and improperly setup test environment I can hear the depth of the soundstage, clearer tone/details that the KEFs just couldn't produce....Then came the Studio 590s. They didn't sound better than the WD Lintons. It was more a lateral move as far as bass output and even some sibilance which I was surprised to hear when the DB levels really climbed on the track. I am a JBL fanboy but they couldn't match the sound from the WDs. Winner by a clear margin: WD Linton Heritage. KEFs way down the line last.

I would choose the Wharfedale Lintons as the winner here. Even though the JBLs sound accurate and immediate, I also feel they would cause listener fatigue rather quickly. The KEF's come in last in this comparison. There's something interesting about the Lintons. The sound is relaxed and not in your face. They represent the kind of sound you could play all afternoon long because of its easy going, balanced sound. I would be interested in hearing the Lintons with a nice tube integrated amplifier.

Through my reasonable quality earphones via KZfaq, and taking into consideration comments regarding placement and reflections, I like the JBL’s. Lintons were good too. KEF were outshone I’m afraid, though they do a good job for their size. Thank you for sharing this audio experience. Take nay heed of the doomsayers! Well done!

Oh I can tell anyone here in KZfaq land that I have been playing my new JBL 590 for the past week. I’ve been enjoying my JBL 590s like no other and I did find out about them on this channel. But The recording does not show the sound stage these deliver. It’s all in the compression horn and wave guide. It truly is remarkable and you won’t hear it through KZfaq you just won’t! I do not hear any of that greatness in my headphones listening to this recording. Now we all know this but just wanted others to realize that it doesn’t represent the sound of the speakers at all unfortunately regarding the JBL’s. Anyway when then you talk about home theater these JBL’s are just fantastic! 😬🥳. The kef sound small because they are small! That also is not apparent in the comparison. And the JBL’s look much better with grills on and it doesn’t affect sound at all!😜😬🤓. Unfortunately in my opinion the JBL are way too close to the side walls cause bloated bass. Put them where the KEFs are and you would change the sound dramatically as you must know just from your tip regarding these speakers😇😬. Those side walls were not nearly as close in your testing and review of the 590 speaker that’s for sure🙄🤔🤓🤗

Agreed. I've owned LS50's and currently own the 590's. In a medium to large room the LS50's can't come close to touching the sound stage scale and dynamic capabilities of the JBL's biradial horn and two 8" drivers.

All I know is those $$$$$ speakers are a total rip off! Heck the $12,000 Mark Lenivenson integrated didn’t sound Any better than my Denon AVR! Just nuts!🤯🤯🤯🤯🤓🤓🤓😇😇😇🤗🤗

I agree, I have 580's and the image (magic) these speakers create in front of you cannot be recorded and reproduced through a youtube video. In saying that, they still sound the best out of the 3.

They are overrated IMO, at least I sold mines when I bought a pair of Revel’s M16 which are the “cheap” ones, far more realistic highs, more open sound and less fatigue, but sound is subjective anyways

IMO Kefs has the best midrange. Wharfedales and jbl mids are recessed. Also IMO all the speakers should be tested in the same spot having the kefs less apart then the other two speakers can change there sound.

The Kef have amazing sound regarding their size, but lack a bit of range and warmer/analogical sound. Never really liked Kef's metalic tweeters and their bright highs. Don't know what to think about the JBL, just they are too big, while the spatialisation is not as open and engaging to me... I whish the Linton was a bit more accurate and clean in the way it separates the frequencies; for sure it is warm, sounds more engaging and analogical, has a nice range, but i found them too messy regarding low medium and bass (could be better controled). Too bad, I thought it would be a perfect match with my tube amp :( Thank you very mutch for your reviews, very interesting!!

I think JBL needed to make a center the same mass as the 590 just squat with the woofers next to each other and the tweeter turned sideways on top. It maybe the same size woofers flanking the tweeter.

Hey Tharbamar. I am seriously looking at: JBL Studio 590 or 580, or Wharfedale Linton or Klipsch RP8000. Because I had some customer service problems with JBL few years ago, they are offering me 20% off any purchase. Right now the Studio 580's are on sale for 300/each but if I wait for the 590's to go on sale for 450/each which does happen now and than, I can use that 20% discount. My room is carpeted, furnished, paneling, and drop ceiling, and is in basement...my man cave..LOL. What you think: Still try the Studio 590's? or 580's? or something else? I don't like the KEF's or any KEF's because they hurt my ears. Go figure. I got a vintage Mitsubishi dual mono block amp that is just plan sweet. Appreciate your input. Peace.
