Here I replace the intake gaskets on a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 liter motor.
I had an oil leak that was dripping onto the exhaust, and made for a terrible smell while stopped at a light.
I determined that the intake gasket was leaking, and this is the fix!

After having rebuilt an entire 4.7 i can confirm that its quite impossible to leak any oil from the intake. I am looking at an intake right now its only connected to the oil through a small plastic tube in the back of the intake and it leads to the oil filler cap to let air in so that you can fill your oil without getting air bubbles . never gonna leak unless your jeep is upside down

hmmmm.... After putting new gaskets on my intake manifold... my oil leak went away. I am pretty sure my jeep has never been upside down. Also, if no oil leaks from the intake manifold... why did I spend an hour and a half cleaning off all of the oil residues​ off both surfaces of the manifold?

that oil line coming from the filler cap it's you pcv valve (positive crank ventilation). It is there to draw fumes from the engine oil and release pressure. Oil in the intake only means a little bit of it from the engine pass through the pcv vale and it is normal. there is no reason an intake manifold should have oil running thru it.

Hi: I removed the intake manifold from my 2002 Grand Cherokee Limited. Although I appreciate your thrift, I wouldn't particularly recommend stopping short of removing the manifold in its entirety. Removing the fuel rail entails four bolts and the special tool... maybe 5 minutes. Removing the alternator entails taking off the serpentine belt, the connection wire, and two bolts... maybe 7.5 minutes. Remove 3 bolts on the compressor and set off it to the side... maybe 3 minutes... Remove a thermostat sensor (so the manifold can clear it)... 1 minute. So for an additional 15 - 20 minutes you will find that the mating surfaces need to be cleaned (probably the source of the leak) so that the new gaskets will seal properly.

Yes. You just need the little cheap plastic fuel line tool from O'Reilly or wherever.

@@stu7604 I don't believe you need to disconnect the fuel line to remove the fuel rail and set it aside, if the goal is to simply move it slightly out of the way.

I can find the leak; I know the passenger engine mount have a little oil. I assume is the head gasket near that area. Any Idea?

Where in the hell does the ground straps go I got one end hooked up on the chassis above the brain then 2 more connecting points

Skip to 0:10 and pause. Do you see that rubber hose connected to the air box? (The one that says 4.7 power tech) You can follow that hose to the back of both cylinder heads and a plastic piece screws into the head your oil leak is most likely coming from the one on the drivers side. These plastic pieces let air into the valve covers so that oil can flow but if they aren't in properly the engine will push oil out lf them when its running.

Cliff's How To Channel its pretty easy to get to you wont have to remove anything to get to it and i don't believe it needs any gasket. Should just screw in unless something is wrong with it

Both the elbows on my 04 GC 4.7 were cracked, they are rubber that slide over a nipple on the back of each head, the one on the passenger side is a real treat to get to. They are part of the CCV system and if cracked they will dribble oil all down the back of the engine and right onto the converter as you know. While you're back there might as well check the PCV hose connection at the bottom of the intake, mine was also cracked and dribbling oil all over, guess what, the converter. And I know that the dealer replaced the valve cover gaskets, but unless they used real good ones most aftermarket ones leak. Have to use real Mopar ones, though I have had good luck on 4.7's with Fel-Pro also.

I know it´s been 5 years. but, did it stop leaking? or was the hose that "Invalid uzername" described in the comments ?

I never did find out where the leak was coming from! Sold the Jeep a couple of years ago.

hello I have a 2007 grand cherokee and one day i started the engine and a loud bang happened inside the engine bay followed by a constant High Rev. (Redline) at 6k when the key is turned over. Can a huge vacuum leak on the intake manifold cause this problem?
