Butler, Pennsylvania native here. Thanks for the shout out. BTW - Go Golden Tornados! The Jeep rally that we have in downtown Butler ever year is pretty crazy. There are around 1,000 Jeeps and lots of people to check out all of the mods that people have done to their pride and joy. There are lots of Jeep owner in town. The other morning I saw one lit up like a Christmas tree with multicolored LED light all over. That is pretty sick for Christmas time. 🎄

I used to drive a g35 lowered on coilovers and my ex girlfriend’s wrangler a couple years back and I kid you not, they both handle imperfections in pavement the same way. A stock wrangler on a speed bump feels like a rusted carnival ride. At least the g35 had comfortable seats.

My thing with jeep is I wish they would have released a different variant of the wrangler using same drivetrain and frame but with possibly a more comfortable cab that doesn’t have removable doors of top. Similar to a Cherokee while keeping the same off-road capability we don’t have enough options! Jeep seems to be like Land Rover once they got rid of the wrangler it’ll become a shell of its name and sell crossovers.

As a big Jeep guy I can’t wait to listen to this podcast. It’s a shame that they are running away from their roots ever since 2006 however at least with the newest generation of wrangler they made some improvements

So I can admit, I know nothing about jeeps. What exactly changed in that generation remodel to make them lose their way? And what did they do to improve it with the newest one?
@mrpw1402
@mrpw1402 2 жыл бұрын
@@tylerfitzgerald266 straying from roots and major decrease in relatability. In wrangler specific in 2007 they made the it mass marketed adding a 4 door wrangler and a slow V6 engine essentially ditching their long time look at appeal of the bulletproof inline 6 engine. In other models such as Liberty/Commander they also had huge reliability issues and cheap interiors: This gave rise to the bad name jeep got with all that. Starting with the introduction of the new wrangler in 2018 and gladiator in 2020 they added more modernized features well needed but improved reliability and offering more models for different types of off roading and better quality interior for what you’re paying. For non wranglers the new Wagoneer and Grand Cherokee is the reintroduction of the luxury SUV which they haven’t made since the last wagoneer in the 80’s. This also reintroduces a new high end customer base. Time will tell with reliably of course. Also adding cool things like a 392 V8, hybrid and soon to be full electric models will be a new renaissance of Jeep For me however I’m sticking with pre-2006 jeeps.

AMC Jeep is best Jeep. Nolan, I'm a diehard Toyota guy but I'd take an XJ over a 4Runner any day. Preferably late 80s/early 90s with the old interior, the 4.0, and 4x4 of course. My first vehicle was a 92 XJ and I miss that thing every day.

I really don't understand all the claimed unreliability. It has literally been the cheapest vehicle I've owned per year and has only had basic maintenance. Never had to replace an axle, or a wheel or any of the other laundry list of parts most northeasterners have to replace regularly because the wranglers are overbuilt. Has gotten me through numerous blizzards and hurricanes no other vehicle with oem parts and support could.

Stellantis/Fiat/Chrysler is shamelessly capitalizing on the Jeep name made famous by the real Jeep’s of the 40’s and 50’s. I own a 1952 Willys M38 with the original Go Devil and I wouldn’t trade it for a brand new Gladiator. And yes, it has a foot starter to the right of the gas pedal. No company today understands the concept of a driveline that far exceeds the capability of the engine. That’s why Willys Jeeps don’t break.

27:15 CReports has always given Wranglers crap rating, and when compared to other vehicles they are correct! Wranglers had zero competition prior to the new Bronco (convertible 4X4). They are in a class of their own... It's not like you bought a 3 series getting chit from a guy in a 7 series.

I gotta disagree honestly I love the new Jls although the only one I’ve experienced is a Mojave which is a gladiator however the sound deadening is way better the ride is way better the power is way better and from my experience with jeeps with a 07 JK and the Gladiator honestly I don’t really have any complaints and there’s no false advertising although my personal vehicle is a 08 ram 2500 mega cab so I don’t currently drive those. Jesus bless y’all.

In the last decade of my career fixing cars, I have seen more issues with not only Jeep, but all Chrysler-adjacent passenger vehicles, that just should not even be a thing. I guess what I mean is that as an industry, this stuff has been addressed and engineered around. Even with zero maintenance whatsoever, modern differentials and manual transmissions have no excuse for self-destructing... let alone on mildly-driven Jeeps that have only been off-road because parking lots are not technically roads. GM is terrible as well, and Ford as well, for similar reasons, but those seem to at least fail due to engineering them too operate too close to the limit under normal operation. They're all brands I tell people to steer clear of. I have a longtime customer (20+ years) who does well financially and enjoys having very clean and well-maintained vehicles. If something even _might_ need work, she has us take care of it. Each car gets a name, and a custom license plate to match. She cares for them almost like pets; point is, I can't think of any customer of mine who is better about maintaining their vehicles, and less likely to have an unexpected breakdown. Her Cadillac and her Lexus SC430 (I know, could barely have picked a worse Lexus) have plenty of stupid, expensive problems, but her newer Wrangler is the worst of them all. She was way better off with the '93 Pathfinder she had, before she gave it to her daughter when buying the Jeep.

My 2020 wrangler is great. No issues at all in 15,000 miles ( 1 year.) I think the consumer reports people and others like them are idiots for lumping a wrangler in with a bunch of soccer-mom tall station wagons. Of course it doesn’t compete with a Hyundai Santa Fe, guess what, the soccer-mom cars can’t do what Wranglers do. Neither can most independent suspension trucks. The wrangler is a thing all it’s own. Stop comparing it to dissimilar products. Shame on Donut for using these comparisons against it. From a quality standpoint, it shares many components with the chargers and challengers you guys love so much. It shares a lot of the flaws that Chrysler products are famous for.
