This acrylic pouring video shows the bloom technique using Primary Elements pigments by ColourArte. They are so beautiful I literally burst into song randomly throughout the video! The recipe I use to create blooms is listed below. Primary Elements pigments are absolutely perfect for the acrylic pour bloom technique!

3 parts flood floetrol
1 part paint (titanium white or Mars black)
3-5 drops Minwax Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner
3-5 drops water

@@roseannejohnson7734 The Taubman's easy coat (for doors and trim) in neutral is a good one for australia in terms of untinted paint base. For white house paint, try British Paints. ColourArte will ship to Australia, I believe... but you can use regular tube paint, mica pigments, or other colorants as the color. Good luck in your experiments!

Hi Jenny, thank you for your wonderful video. I've been pour painting only for a few months, and wanted to learn about this bloom technique. Your video is invaluable! LOVED IT! But being in Australia means certain things can't be purchased or perhaps have different names, so I just want to know what your 'cell activator' is and is it similar to silicone? Also if you know where online I can purchase it? Thanks in advance! :)
@JennyPost
@JennyPost 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jill - Thank you for the kind words and welcome to the world of paint pouring! This particular type of pour is unique in acrylic pouring because it does not use silicone oil and it gets pretty incredible cells. The last layer on the puddle is just called a cell activator to distinguish it from the other puddles. It is different and I suppose it is a key to getting the cells. Since you are in Australia, a good recipe to create the cell activator is simply 3 parts Australian floetrol to 1 part titanium white paint. The Australian Floetrol is different from the US floetrol. To get similar results, I have to add an additional product (the wood conditioner). Since you have access to the Australian Floetrol, you don't need the wood conditioner! For the colors, you can use Taubmans Easy Coat Interior Paint for Doors and Trim (Gloss in Neutral). This is the equivalent of the untinted paint base in my video. For the pillow paint (first layer down) you can use British Paints Low Sheen Interior Wall paint in white. You should be able to get these products at a local hardware store there in Australia. The only other product is the gloss varnish (I use Jo Sonja). You can get Jo Sonja Gloss Varnish from Dick Blick art supplies. They do ship to Australia. Hope this helps! Have FUN and good luck!

Very beautiful, I’m following your recipe because I found that your way to this art was the easiest explained and it worked for me ty for that, ? If the pouring medium is a little too thick what can I use to thin it down with I was thinking a little water but I want to ask you first
@JennyPost
@JennyPost 4 жыл бұрын
Yea!! So glad it worked for you! When it has been too thick for me, I have thinned it with more varnish. I have never tried water, but it would probably work too. I would suggest doing a test to see if the water works... if it does, then that is awesome and less expensive! Would love to hear your results! (this is an expensive recipe!! lol)

You are doing such a great job with this new acrylic technique. Thank you so much for sharing your recipes and techniques. Do you find that any of the products that you are using have a strong smell, and if so, do you wear a mask, or ventilate the room.?
@JennyPost
@JennyPost 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Cheryl! YES! Some of these products are very toxic smelling and strong. The Josonja varnish has a strong smell, and the minwax pre-stain wood conditioner does too. The untinted paint itself also has a smell. In terms of wearing a respirator, I do when I am mixing the pouring medium up and I am not filming. I even wear my respirator when using clear fingernail polish to paint the back of my dipped cabochons! Last year, December 2, I started coughing up blood... LOTS and LOTS of blood. It continued until mid-January. It scared the crap out of me and I am now very careful with my lungs.

OK so I see you got the same indentations in the white house paint as I did. I'm glad to see it dried as no other channels have done so. I tried this on a 2x3 foot canvas and it did not work. I had the same issues as you. The white webbing formed indentations in the white thick house paint... As time is going by and its continuing to dry, I'm getting all kinds of "channels" in the painting, where the white paint on top kind of outlined the house paint, And the white "topper" was dull and looked broken down the same as yours did. I think that thinning the house paint may be helpful And I think the person who "invented " this is basically using using the "pouring medium" as a replacement for resin with pigments... If you use pigments and you don't want to use resin, you basically have to come up with a "carrier" for the pigments. I'm not happy with the textured end results. You seem like your videos are not advertisements for paint...So it leads me to believe that whoever is selling this paint has a motive here to use YT channels to promote themselves...just sayin...

Yes, it does leave some indentations... I think you are right it would probably be good to thin out the pillow paint somewhat. But, the pillow still needs to be thick enough to allow the colors to float on it. I don't mind the channels/texture, so much. As far as using paint sent to me by ColourArte, I have been buying this paint for a while and I 100% endorse it. It is VERY expensive to do a bunch of free videos, and you can bet your butt that if a paint brand I LOVE is sending me free stuff to use, I am going to use it and tell the world how much I love it. I am sorry it bothers you. If you want to send me some free paint, I can use that (hehe, just kidding, but maybe you get my point?). Anyone can get Colourart, so it is readily available. It is a small company (not giant, like Amsterdam, Golden, etc), woman-owned, US manufacturered... the owner is an artist in the pouring community, so I am very honored to promote it and so excited she is sending me boxes of it for free! And it is so crazy sparkly!! But anyway, I hope you can look past it because I will continue to use the ColourArte and the Pourage Posse Paints that I have been given by these two amazing women artists. I am proud to promote them!! Big hugs to you!

@@JennyPost The whole process to me makes no sense unless as I said you are using powdered pigments and need a carrier for it, other than resin. two days later my painting is a mess with the undercoat pulling away from the canvas all over the place. I am sorry I made the investment in all the products. Its just a new fad to get new people to get new subscribers...thats my take on it.

Hello Jenny, I absolutely love the blooms you made on the ornaments and canvas, oh my! The only question I had was in your video you stated you used colorplace paint but in your description you have Sherwin Williams listed, why? Those colors you used have the right amount of pizzazz and shine, love it!
@JennyPost
@JennyPost 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! To clarify - the color place is the white pillow paint. The Sherwin Williams is the untinted base paint that is used in the pouring medium. I list the recipe in the video description. Hope this helps!

Ive never seen black or white cell activator. Is that clear activator in black paint?
@JennyPost
@JennyPost 4 жыл бұрын
The cell activator is just what people call the last layer that goes on these bloom puddles. It is typically white or black. It is simply 3 parts floetrol mixed with 1 part paint, with a few drops of minwax pre-stain wood conditioner and a few drops of water.

@@cindydelamare895 I did NOT, and that is probably why they dried differently than the canvas... a bit duller. They were dry the next morning! But, a bit of resin will sparkle them right back up.

@@JennyPost well after 75.00 investment, I'm done with it,. I guess if you are doing 6x6 inch tiles its ok...but if you are going to get pulling away from the canvas, channel formation and texture-that you will have to cover with resin (at 200.00 for the size canvas I did) , theres really no point... who wants a slippery coaster? And I threw out all my coasters bc I never used them! I much prefer your old technique that "Pouring your heart out" copied.....and is now making a fortune off of!! @@crochethappy3786 I hear ya! I am sorry it did not work out for ya. I like it because it makes such little intricate bits for jewelry. You know I cut up all my canvases anyway to make jewelry out of them? So, this done with mica pigments or those primary elements especially is perfect for what I do.
