being french, i also guessed sudan since "dent" and "dan" have the same pronunciation and "sous" (pronounced 'su') means under. cote d'ivoire makes so much sense !

I guessed The Gambia, thinking from a cartographer's perspective the country looks like the teeth if you look at Senegal as a side-profile head surrounding it. Cote d'Ivoire makes more sense. Great question.

Being French didn't really help for this one... I guessed 'Somalia', as it sort of looks like a big teeth, unfortunately, I didn't think of the teeth as elephant tusks...

I knew all along the answer was Ivory Coast - I don't quite understand French but occurred to me that ivory is probably French for teeth because teeth are nicknamed ivories in English :) - Greetings from Singapore

Wow, I was WAAAAAY off. I should have been thinking 'teeth' as in tusks, but instead I was thinking along the lines of 'rocky' as in 'there were so many rocks along the coast they were like teeth'.(I'm not going to say what my guess was, but it was bad...and wrong, bad and wrong)

Tricky question, I never saw that on a map. Cote d Ivoire was the only country that made sense to me, from its overtly French name to the reference to an animal’s “teeth.” Ivory Coast was right there on the old maps next to Gold Coast and Upper Volta.

@@camilo1455 "Never saw Cote d' Dent" It was actually "Côte de Dents" or occasionally "Côte des Dents," but that name was replaced almost universally in French works by "Côte d'Ivoire" by the mid-19th century.

Like one contestant, I could only come up with "dent-" for a root word. I was going on "dandelion" which, I think, is the anglicized version of "tooth of the lion" , i.e., the jagged edges of the dandelion's leaf.

No one here has ever answered why Mike Richards has to go for offensive comments and referring to the big nose stereotype yet it's perfectly ok when Ken made racist comments like Asians have weird eyes, stereotyping Spanish speakers as maids plus south Asians as spelling bee champs, equated Jews as the same thing as Israel more than once, and made tons of rape, Hitler, and homophobic, and islamophobic jokes? All Ken stans come up with..."that's just whataboutism."
