In this series, produced by Chrysalis Entertainment in 2002, which later became part of the production company that makes Fifth Gear, Jeremy Clarkson drives a 1960s Jaguar E-Type around six European countries to discover just how different their lifestyles are to those in Britain, and whether the reality matches the stereotypical perception of each country. In this episode, Jeremy's exploring Italy. There Jeremy puts on body armour in preparation for his lessons in gladiatorial combat. Later, he attends a beauty contest as part of the judging panel. Having been visiting Italy since 2014 and moved from the US to a small town 30km outside of Venice in 2022, there is a supermarket here, but I do most of my shopping at the small individual shops; for meat, bread, fruits and vegetables, pastries. I like it so much better. The owners get to know you. It becomes more personable, and I shop for what I need. Generally every couple of days. I’ve talked with my friends, that I worry about trying to imitate America with supermarkets, that they could be losing one of the things that makes Italy what it is. I’m so much happier here; I’m not anti-American, it’s just a better fit for me. I like that there’s never a rush.

How do you pull it off financially? I would love to move to Europe, but I can’t find a way to search for jobs for Americans abroad aside from becoming an English teacher. Any resources?
@kevinbuja8105
@kevinbuja8105 7 ай бұрын
@@GeorgeWBushDid911 I apologize for not getting back to you sooner; I was never alerted to your query. I’m retired, and my monies are automatically deposited to my banks in America, and from there I can transfer money to my account in Italy. That is possible because one of the accounts is with PNC (Pennsylvania equivalent of Bank of America, Chase, et. al.). Unfortunately, I can’t answer your question about finding jobs in the EU. The only advice I can offer is: try the UK (downside is they’re no longer part of the EU). There are many countries both in the EU and non-EU where you can live comfortably. 2 countries off the top of my head are Portugal and Spain. In my case, my rent and utilities (for what we would call a studio) is €600/mo. That fluctuates depending on the exchange rate. For example, when I moved here in December 2022, my rent was ~$670.00/mo, now it’s ~$625.00. My friend had a 2 bedroom apartment, in the same area, that was (if I remember correctly) €700/mo including utilities. €600.00 is my only major expense. Because I’m a resident of the Venice region, I buy an unlimited monthly pass for €30.00/mo. This allows me to ride all the buses and local trains/trams as often as I want, and the vaporetto (water bus in Venice proper) is only €3.00 each way instead of the €10.00 each way. Another “perk” of being a resident is, that I can visit any country in the EU, and stay there longer than my passport would normally allow. I have no need for a car, because as I said: my food and such is within walking distance, I can take a bus just about anywhere, and I have friends that will give me a ride if I need it. I hope this answers your question. Again, I apologize for both: 1) not answering sooner; 2) not having any information about how to find work.

I know each episode you get a scratch of what each country was like but I genuinely believe Italy episode was not even a scratch! Still most of Italy's issues 20 years ago which is when this series was made still happens today, unfortunately immigration in Italy is still an issue and economically Italy has gotten way worse than when they were using Lira's. I know Europe as a whole now is in a financial crisis but these signs were shown to us many years ago but unfortunately we ignored it and hot greedy it's sad really.

We didn't ignore it. We laughed at it, and the EU capitalised on it and pushed communism on them, like they have done with the rest of the EU. @@alexanderyoung6468 my sympathies, your country was a wonderful place till the WEF got their claws into it. It matters to everyone though. If you let the persecution of one people slide, and the next, and the next, and the next, who remains to stand up when they come for yours? The creep is slow, and we'll hit tipping point soon. Now is the time to move, or to stand up and defend the freedoms our forebears fought to win for us. Your choice will show what kind of a man you are, but to lay down and accept it is the most cowardly choice possible. I wish the best of luck to you & yours. 👍
