Watch how we built this Off Road Wheelchair contraption HERE: • How to Build an Off Ro... Building this Off Road Wheel chair out of two electric bikes was a super fun challenge, and ended up being much easier than I anticipated. With a few minor adjustments to the electric bikes, I was able to mount a seat 'chariot style' right between the two e-bike frames.
See our updated version HERE: • This is 'Not a Wheelch...
We need help choosing a name for this electric off road wheelchair! Let me know in the comments.
Ill post all the build details and dimensions in the construction video tomorrow. This off road wheel chair goes 20 miles per hour, and should have a range of 20-30 miles. It cost me about $3,000usd (mostly the price of the bikes). About 50 dollars worth of metal for the seat, and about 3 full days to design and assemble the whole wheelchair.
Splicing two electric bikes together to build a powerful off road wheel chair was super fun, and a sweet surprise for Cambry.

Omg! This has me in tears! I can tell you must have fallen in love with this girl immediately and it definitely shows! She is so lucky to have such a wonderful husband. I just watched your wedding ring video where you use titanium from her first wheelchair, and she said when she first started dating she thought her wheelchair would detert people from dating her and she never thought someone would use her chair to make a wedding ring... that seriously touched me! The fact you keep going out of your way to create things for her so she isn't bound by a chair and instead can go out and enjoy so many things we all take for granted is truly inspiring. I hope you two have a long wonderful life together and congratulations on the pregnancy as well!!🙏🏽😊

As a paraplegic myself this would be so awesome. I so miss riding a bike! However, during my 32 years now in a wheelchair I have never stayed on the pavement. I live in the country so that would be impossible. I’m always in a pasture with the horses, in the grass with my dogs, in the mud when it rains, etc. When I was injured at the age of 18, I decided I was going to do my best to live life like I had prior to my accident. This bike would just be nice for me to feel like I’m on a bike again. I love people like this guy that jumps in and finds a way to make something like this happen!

Hi Zack, Four ideas, 1) Move both batteries to under the seat, and 2) Cut the upper crossbar off the left bike, this will lower the center of gravity and allow side entry/exit. 3) Put some type of armrests/guards in the old seat post holes. 4) Add a second link behind the fork to stiffen the steering while taking some load off the angle brackets.

@thruthegalaxy6660
@thruthegalaxy6660 5 жыл бұрын
Stability lose will be unnoticeable, but structural rigidity may or may not suffer. The bike structure may be rigid enough to handle the girls weight, if not this issue can be easily overcome with some reinforcement, making the bike look like a regular women bike. He can also put more accumulators under the seat, but if so make sure to put a shield on them and also a car extinguisher can be proved handy in a emergency situation
@chrisfrancis2220
@chrisfrancis2220 5 жыл бұрын
As a prototype this is a pretty effective first try. And it looks like a lot of fun. But you are right Brian it probably needs some design rethinks for accessibility, so that Cambry can utilise it with out having someone lift her into position. For example scrapping the bike frame all together and making a complete new frame with greater access to the middle seat. Obviously rear shocks and perhaps a single steering assembly rather than 2 that are linked. Jerry keep on Rigging. Your doing an awesome job.
@zanlero
@zanlero 5 жыл бұрын
Also modify it so there is only one throttle (super easy to do) and one brake for both front wheels... the brake will be harder but still quite easy using a T fitting and hydraulic brakes or a dual cable lever (you can buy this online) . maybe also set up the steering to have normal handle bars for comfort and better control which would take some fab and engineering work but would ultimately be worth it i think.

LOVE IT! 👏👏👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌I’ve been in nursing for thirty years, and have witnessed how limiting traditional wheelchairs are. I have always wanted to invent a chair that would be solar-powered with a hood that retracts and raises to protect the person going outside. Many obstacles people with mobility issues face are easily getting into and out of cars or other seats (like toilets, beds, etc.) without the help of someone else. Stairs, grass, sand, water, obviously, all off limits to someone in a traditional wheelchair. So incredibly excited for the ingenuity showcased on this show! Hope everyone eventually has access to these wonderful tools to make life more liveable. 🥰

I'm a wheelchair user with a background in mountain biking. Pretty nice, but she needs to be able to transfer into it herself. You can definitely use dual suspension bike frames instead of hard tail. The plate that is used for the seat needs to be angled backwards for more security. And Hydrolic disk brakes would be awesome. Also, you don't really need to use huge tires like that. 2.1 inch with 26" double wall rims would work just as good and it'll weigh less. I doubt you'll ever read this, but who knows?! Maybe you'll even make me one of these:) Cheers from Canada

THIS IS AMAZING! My 78-year-old husband has CMT (Charcot Marie Tooth) disease that is a disabling, heritary,, progressive condition that limits his mobility. We planned our retirement years around "free "(n=mostly free) activities we used to enjoy like birdwatching, hiking in the countryside, walking our dog, fishing, photography, biking and adventuring. Because of his two hammertoes, the painful neuropathy, spinal stenosis and osteoarthritis in his knee (etc.) his gait he off and he falls easily. So, h e is limited to walking on cement or asphalt surfaces and those activities we had planned on doing mostly require being able to navigate on rough ground. This could be the answer for him. Wil lyou be making these to sell? We live in SW Michigan.
