If you took Fox News and molded it into a man, you'd get Jesse Watters. Jesse Watters is a weird guy to watch. He isn't very bright, or charming, or particularly provocative, but he somehow embodies the worst of the network.
This video looks at the first week of his new 8 PM time slot. Some other episodes are drawn in for further context, but the picture should give you a good idea of what he's all about. With some confidence, I think I can say he's a guy who won't require much close watching in the future. He doesn't have the power of his predecessors, and if you have an idea of what Fox News is saying on its network, you know what Watters is going to say.
That said, it's possible he got suffer a gaff that brings his career crashing down. But more like I suspect he'll get got with something backstage going wrong. I suppose we'll see in time.

It was always hypocrisy. Bent Sharpie, who popularized the saying, is a presuppositionalist who has admitted his ideology is predicted on his religious beliefs, which are true because he feels they're true. He's also openly admitted to rejecting any studies and scientific data that contradict his beliefs. This pretty much sums up the way most conservatives think.

To be fair, this nontroversy over a crude crayon drawing enraged nationalist politicians in the Philippines and Vietnam, which have longstanding territorial disputes with China. It did not originate with Fox News or American conservatives, although they were happy to assimilate it into their preexisting worldview regarding "woke" U.S. corporations being more willing to criticize their own country rather than China's authoritarian communist regime. That said, after the Barbie movie was released and people could actually see it for themselves, it became clear almost immediately that the crayon drawing had no hidden political meaning, and was not a good example of Western corporations accommodating Chinese censorship in exchange for market access.

Jesse Waters taking Tuck’s place in prime time is just another sign of the serious decline of TV news and Fox in particular. First we had Bill OReilly, who was obviously a horrible person, but he was a powerhouse of an anchor and wielded great political influence. Hell, he even managed to go toe to toe with Jon Stewart in mock presidential debates, while still remaining friendly and respectful between the two. Then came Tucker, who again was downright evil, but managed to be another powerhouse speaker who could reach all age demographics, which is shocking considering Fox viewers’ average age hovers around 70. Even with the decline of cable news, Tucker managed to be a political powerhouse with a chokehold on the conservative movement. Now we have Jesse Waters, a more openly racist guy than Tucker who has the charisma of a wet napkin. Hell, one of his most frequent segments is him reading out texts from his own mother about how disappointed and ashamed she is of him.

Tucker had no talent and neither does Waters. The problem is Rupert Murdoch. How Americans including journalist can protect these people under the banner of free speech is suicidal. Tbh, getting a less powerful anchor is probably better for the network. A more charismatic or independent anchor can take an audience with them. The funniest part about the "no Chinese censorship" story is that most of the movies that have been altered or censored to make it to the Chinese market are ones that include minor LGBT moments that get edited out in those markets. If Ted Cruz actually puts that legislation through, they would just be making more "gay" movies

They are cowards and bullies and that is what they attract. The very same thing goes for Trump. He is a coward and a bully. The sick part is they attract other cowards and bullies. Everyone who loves Fox and loves Trump are cowards. They might even fight but that is because they think they will be backed up by their mob. The group that follows Trump are very fearful people. I know the legitimacy of the criticism wasn't your point, but I do think Disney probably handled the dwarves wrong. They responded to concerns of Peter Dinkledge by just eliminating the dwarf roles. They said they were consulting wity the little person community, but this would be far from the first time Disney claimed they were listening to a community while also offending them. Consider the coconut... for example.
@bigjohnsbreakfastlog5819
@bigjohnsbreakfastlog5819 9 ай бұрын
Especially as dwarven actors who *aren't* Peter Dinkledge struggle with getting serious roles that pay good; the industry limit them to roles as playing freak attractions or putting them in suits. As milquetoast as this film is going to be, this had the potential to help with their career resumes.

@@justineberlein5916 How is that the same? I'm not suggesting they keep things the same. I have no problem with modernizing. Disney modernized the Grim Brothers story a LOT and the Brothers Grim themselves modernized it for the contemporary audiences of their day between the first and 7th editions. Their first edition was made primarily to create a German cultural identity that didn't really fully exist as there had not really been a united German culture up until that point and the Nazi's used their work to create their myth of an ancient German race. But later editions were written to sell books to kids and by the 7th version, things that were objectionable at the time (like pregnancies) were removed. I have no problem with updating and adapting the story again. There is no need for Snow White to be white, just because the original had her skin as white as snow. If I remember correctly (and I may not, I read the book more recently than I saw the film) I think they changed the red from blood to a rose. My objection is that there are many talented little people actors and this was a chance to tell a good story about them. They should have changed it drastically from the original, as Dinkledge's criticisms were correct. But they shouldn't have gotten rid of those roles altogether. Frankly, they weren't magical in the original and replacing them with magical creatures really doesn't help.

@@Sam_on_KZfaq Also, side note. It's "dwarfs", not "dwarves". The latter's a "bit of private bad grammar" Tolkien mistakenly injected into LotR. So the rule of thumb is that it's "dwarves" when talking about the fantasy race in Tolkien-inspired settings, or "dwarfs" in all other senses, including the Disney movie

@@Sam_on_KZfaq Actually, never mind. I just looked more into it, and this one really *is* racism. Zegler... isn't mestiza. For context, we're really bad at distinguishing terms in America when it comes to Latin America, like how Latino/a just means you're from a Latin American country, while the ethnicity people think of is actually mestizo/a. So they're basically getting mad that she isn't *white* white, and is actually a white *Latina*

Zero credit to Waters because he doesn't deserve it. Little people being excluded from Snow White isn't minor to the people it affects. The same is being done in Time Bandits, Willy Wonka, and (I believe) the upcoming Wizard of Oz remake. That's not a coincidence. Several things are contributing to it that all negatively affect people with disabilities. 1. The current response to our ongoing COVID pandemic has been that non-disabled people are perfectly fine (and in some cases enthusiastic) about removing disabled people from their lives. Every political demographic has, at some point, told me and my disabled friends that we should "stay home forever" because we have the audacity to expect support from the community to protect us (and them) from a crippling airborne virus. 2. There has been a very unsubtle resurgence of what was commonly referred to as "Ugly Laws," which, when enacted, made it illegal for disabled people to be seen in public. We can see the criminalization of disabled people in the attacks on trans people, among other ways. Many, many leftists have contributed to this in just as frequent and overt ways as anyone right of them. 3. Disney and these other companies are telling the disabled community that they would rather exclude us than spend the time representing us respectfully. Those past representations were imperfect and broadly offensive, but the answer is not to get rid of people with dwarfism entirely. Their existence in the film was never the problem. Instead, we're being subtly suggested that the mere presence of someone with a disability is offensive. It's starting to get exhausting and dangerous being disabled in the world because no one but us seems interested in protecting us. When disability is the through line connecting all other marginalizations. You cannot say you care about LGBTQ+ people and exclude disabled queer folk; you cannot say you care about BIPOC and contributing to the endangering of Black and Brown people; you cannot say you care about the unhoused, or women, or immigrants, or children and not recognize how saturated the topic of disability is in every community. I find it disappointing that you would paint the situation with Disney as completely unserious because Waters brought it up when that was unnecessary. You could have just said that you found it ironic that he cared in one instance and not the other when it benefitted him. To suggest that it's not worth talking about contributes to the dehumanization and exclusion we face daily. I'm not expecting any (positive) response to my comment because the MO among leftists lately is to pretend that we didn't say anything and completely ignore us like we're unserious children having a tantrum. But I'm grateful if you did read this and learned from it.

The editorial, commentary, talking head side of Fox News has not been journalism for a very long time. It's just propaganda. Here in Australia we have Fox owned, Sky News that does the same thing. But it's even more explicit and obvious because it's trapped in its little bubble and doesn't really reach any widespread influence into Australian culture. In the US however, Fox is so saturating that it's difficult for people to really notice it. It's like the right wing's proverbial frogs in the pot.
