The thing that bugged me about the revival episode about the grandson's clothes bugged me because all I could think was "what makes you old farts think you know what elementary school is like nowadays in the first place?" Why are the grandparents so sure they know how kids act? Especially when it's obvious they haven't been a huge part of their lives from the beginning." I see my family reflected in this, I'm Darlene's age w/ overbearing parents and teen/preteen kids, and the one thing I've noticed is that each generation has gotten increasingly more tolerant and accepting of differences. Maybe in Dan's day guys dressed like that would get beat up, but in the current age, that grandkid is probably not going to be the only kid dressed "funny" at school. I was surprised that never got pointed out in the episode, that the generations have changed not "the bully will get bored of it" which is another way of saying "I'll get used to being beat up"

16:30 I'm not really a dog person, but my brother is, so I have learned a bit from him. 1 I think is American bulldog, 2: Looks like a short legged variant of Cane Corso, with mutilated ears, 3: is a Bull terrier (of the modern severely inbred kind with the stupid looking convex nose and severe health issues caused by generations of inbreeding), 4 Bulldog, with mutilated ears 5: Some kind of boxer? (hard to tell with the ears ans skin flopping around) 6: Pretty sure that's an American Pitbull Terrier, 7: That's "Pitbull" (the human artist) 8: Also looks like another terrier or pitbull type breed.
@SteinGauslaaStrindhaugКүн бұрын
Interestingly of all these, the American Pitbull Terrier seems like the breed that is least mangled by inbreeding. I'm pretty sure all of the others with their weird broad stance have very high prevalence of hip and shoulder problems. All the fairly flat faced ones have breathing issues. And Bull Terrier not only looks like a cruel joke but it has lots and lots of health issues; but despite it's origin from blood sport and it's "fighting dog"-like musculature it's really just a very stupid but playful and cuddly dog.
@SteinGauslaaStrindhaugКүн бұрын
12:50 This is so obvious, animals bred to fight other animals would not be bred to be aggressive towards people, that just makes them difficult to handle. I'd be much more worried about dogs bred for guard duty or for attacking people in police and military contexts since these while also presumably bred to be loyal to their handler _are_ actually bred to attack people.
@SteinGauslaaStrindhaugКүн бұрын
I'm actually less worried about dogs bred for a specific job, by breeders who know what they're doing; than dogs that are bred primarily or exclusively for their particular look by any random breeder who is in it for money. If you're breeding dogs for a job (and not looks or any "standard" of how a "breed" is "supposed" to look), you would not want to severely inbreed it you would mix in dogs from lots of different "breeds" based on their abilities which even if the desired goal is a dog that can literally attack people on command, it probably will also be bred and trained to be obedient and safe towards the handler. But if the _only_ goal is to make a dog that looks a certain way because that "breed" is fashionable at the moment, an unscrupulous breeder might not care about at all about the health or safety of either the dog or their owners. And while health issues for the dog itself is much more common when inbreeding animals, it's also very likely that inbreeding could result in bad behaviour too. And infamously, very small dogs are often very nervous, loud and aggressive because their small size means even a child can still restrain them with a leash because they are so small, so behavioural problems are more easily ignored. While big dogs _have_ to be well behaved otherwise they can't be handled and will be euthanised; so even careless breeders will be forced by necessity (if for nothing else but their own safety) to at least consider behaviour as well as looks (but they still can end up breeding large dogs with serious heath issues, though). I really think we should abandon the whole idea of "breeds", it's just an euphemism for inbred.

Insomma, dopo oltre 30 anni siamo ancora qui a chiederci "Perché? Perché? Perché???"
