Our baby girl (third child) is in the NICU because she was born 6 weeks premature. She is growing steadily but remains in the NICU because she is struggling with reflux which is leading her to experience bradycardia. Here is an update video about our postpartum experience and some encouragement to other families who might find themselves with babies who need to stay in the hospital. You all are wonderful and I'm grateful for your kindness.

I love your videos! I gave birth to my son in 23+5 weeks. The dockors didn’t think he’d survive, but they saw how he was struggling from the beginning taking his first breath by himself. Yeah, he’s a real fighter. Today he’s 12 years and healthy and I’m pregnant with nummer two in week 13 and praying this little angel will stay inside until fully baked. Greetings from Sweden

Being a NICU mama is really tough. My first daughter was in the NICU for nearly a month because she was born with respiratory distress syndrome and developed pneumonia. It was very scary, and very difficult. Leaving her there every night was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I cried every single day until we brought her home. I was told like, every few days or so that we may get to take her home soon and then suddenly we couldn’t because of her breathing. It does create so much anxiety. To anyone who has a NICU baby, Just keep going and you’ve got this. ❤️❤️

My fourth baby was in NICU and I couldn't go see her for a day or two because I had a c section. She had fluid in her lungs. I couldn't really sleep until I finally had enough strength to walk to go see her. Glad they let me stay at the hospital until she could go home

I had my baby boy in May, he came 3 weeks early and spent 8 days in the nicu. I think the main takeaway I got from the experience is that it’s temporary. You will be able to take that baby home, hold tight they’re getting all the medical help they need. Covid makes it so much harder but stay strong, you’re doing great!

Had a nicu baby too. She is 25 now. I can relate to those feelings of being scared and feeling new because she was my second and my first daughter was full term. I remember being scared of her but those feelings didn't last long and she did amazing. Roller coaster for sure. God bless and will say prayers for your beautiful new baby.

Thank you for talking about this, and I hope your baby comes home to you soon, healthy and safe. My parents had my eldest sister, their first child, at 34 weeks and she went through the same process as Julia, it was hard at first but everything was okay and she was such a beautiful and happy baby, I'm sure your baby will flourish too once she's a bit older and you'll get the hang of it in no time. It's normal to feel uncertain or scared because you feel like she's fragile, my dad was a doctor and he was still anxious when holding my sister the first few times

This is unbelievably helpful! Just had my first baby and he is preterm and in the NICU as well currently. The newness of being a mama, him being early so not being able to follow my birth plan/ideal scenario, him going from being with me 24/7 in my belly to only being able to see him in increments, and all of this happening during Covid has been hard physically and mentally. But your recent videos have helped me not feel so alone in this experience. Thank you

My water broke, 4 years ago at 34 weeks and 4 days. My first born son was here 6 hours later after a vacuumed assisted birth. He stayed in the NICU for a month and it was extremely difficult. It was emotionally draining. My son needed to be intubated for underdeveloped lungs, he ended up getting sepsis, had Brady's constantly, and had feeding issues as well. 3 children later and I still have ptsd about that..whenever I smell hand sanitizer I get flash backs about that experience. It was a roller coaster ride but now we have a completely healthy and amazing 4 year old, full term 2 year old and full term 4 month old. ❤️❤️ Thanks for this video. You guys will get through this!!

She also has jaundice some so she had to be under the lights. She got to come home yesterday so we were there a week. Stay strong momma. ♥️ we know how you feel

My son was a premature baby too, born at 33 weeks and he had to stay in the NICU for a month. It was super hard leaving the hospital without your baby but I always went to visit, was there morning until late at night every single day, and they have rotating nurses (our room had 2 nurses for like 9 babies) so I was always nervous of how my son was treated because I heard from other moms that one of the nurses laughed at my son while changing a diaper because he peed himself and got peed on his face… so I was always worry about how my son was being treated, how other kids were being treated too, some nurses just go to get pay and don’t care much about other peoples child. But not all nurses were like that, some were really helpful, and compassionate.. It was a hard experience but glad to learn from it.

My 1st baby was born back in May of this year. He was 2 weeks early, not technically premature, but we did spend 10 days in the NICU because he continued to have lowered blood oxygen levels when feeding. And I feel you when you say they say you can go home and then literally the same day there's another "event" and you have to stay longer. And it was SOOOO much harder because of COVID because you can't have other people there for support (though our hospital had a separate room for my son that my husband and I were allowed to stay in with him). I will say, some of the VERY BEST advice that was given to us by a nurse was to basically give him a chance to be a normal baby (we had actually purchased an OWLET monitor and this nurse told us flat out to return it, that it would cause more worry/stress and to instead just let our baby be a baby. BEST. ADVICE. EVER.). At the time we were purposely pacing his feeding to try to prevent him from choking and causing an "event", but when we took the advice of one of the nurses and just trusted our baby to be a baby and do his own thing he actually ate better than ever before. And actually it turned out that the pacing was making his choking/lowered blood oxygen level episodes more frequent and when we finally trusted him to pace himself, he actually got himself checked out of the NICU. And I know, 10 days might not sound like a lot, but I know it definitely felt like closer to a month. Just hang in there, and trust your baby more than the machines. Like one of the nurses told me, non-NICU babies aren't hooked up to all those machines and you have no idea if a lot of them have a lot of the same lowered stat issues that NICU babies get admitted for just because they are early. My son is now almost 6 months, he's learned the word "Mama" and can stand almost on his own, he's in the 93% for his height, you would never know he was a NICU baby. Trust your baby. (best advice) Watch your baby, not the machines! Love you, love your videos! Stay strong and trust in her!!!

My son was born at 32 weeks my water had broke at 28 weeks. My son stayed in the nicu all the way up to his due date! The reason why is the same issue. He stayed there a month longer because of his acid reflux! They couldn’t figure it out but I made them try all different things... the thing that finally helped was putting him on a formula that is similac for spit up and he never had a drop in his oxygen or heart rate after that and came home! Please be persistent and hopefully you can have them put your baby on that formula. It was so depressing because they kept acting like it wasn’t because of his reflux but it was.

Being a NICU parent is very hard and heartbreaking..everyday I feel like my heart is being ripped apart. I gave birth 5 days ago via emergency c section, although my baby is full term he pooped inside and got blood infection, he was in the NICU from day 1 and they told us that they will keep him for 7 days more. I feel so helpless and I feel like I will lose my mind. I cry everyday. It's so hard because I myself needs to recover. I also have a hypertension so its not good for me. I pray everyday.

What medication and what formula is your baby on? I have a 3 week early reflux baby myself. He is 2 months now. He is my first baby and reflux is so debilitating. Breast feeding failed for me because I didnt know why he wouldn't feed. Turns out it was probably his reflux and the position he was in(flat instead of head elevated). Pumping became impossible because he was always unhappy and I had to take care of him. Then he would barf all of my milk up because I would lay him down flat because I didn't know what was wrong. You are lucky that your baby was diagnosed early. Never lay them flat less than 30 minutes after a feed. Make sure the hospital checks for allergies such as lactose intolerance because that is a main cause of reflux. I truly do not think I could handle a reflux child with other children. Now I'm terrified to have another. I have no one to help me but if you do, dont feel ashamed to ask for help. Fed is best! If breast feeding doesn't work out, it's ok! Do not beat yourself up. You are a wonderful mother! Having a reflux baby is so so so hard.

My (full term) baby has reflux really bad when I have caffeine. Have you tried to alter your diet to help with the reflux? I am a dairy free, tomato free, caffeine free breastfeeding mama of a 10 month old. It’s very hard! But that combination has eliminated the reflux completely for us.

I’m sorry you’re in this situation with your little one but it’s probably not a good idea to drink in the NICU, exposing all the babies there (since you said they were all in one space) if you’re an asymptomatic carrier of COVID. Makes you wonder how many other parents they are letting “sneak” liquids aka taking off your mask aka risking exposure.
