Thank you for another valuable update. Some of the concern about bullying may stem from the reported experience of G-Dragon while he was in military.

JHope is friendly, polite and playful, I agree with you Dave, I think it's unlikely that anyone in the camp would want to harm him. As much as we love him, the Army must understand that he is not at summer camp, he is doing his duty as a South Korean citizen and cannot at the moment behave like an idol. People can always write the letters and put them in a box, save them for when the boys have served their military service and then send them. Also, you can also give the boys well wishes by making videos and posting them to KZfaq. The boys will see them on their down time. You can make Reels or Videos, even if it is a "short" by saying Hello and I hope you are doing well. My Sister and her Husband were both in the military and they could not receive letters either because they were in active service and the mail couldn't reach them. I wrote them letters and wrote my feelings and how much I missed them in the letters and even wrote my sister a poem about her. I saved them and gave them to them when they came home. Also, you wouldn't want your letters lost or stolen... I had managed to send my sister a sterling silver cross that was mine and I wanted her to have it more to keep her safe. This was when she was in boot camp. After she graduated from boot camp and went to the next place someone stole the necklace. She felt so bad and didn't want to tell me. I was so upset, but thankful nothing bad happened to her and so very grateful she was home. So ARMY please don't be upset by what HYBE or the military ask of you concerning letters and such. There are other ways to give them thanks and well wishes and wouldn't it be nice to have a box of letters to read? When they get home and are relaxing a bit before their next step they can sit some where in the shade, enjoying the outdoors and just read the letters and I'm sure it will make them feel happy and loved and give them a good feeling inside. The members are probably older than most new enlisted soldiers and have proven leadership qualities and college degrees - so it would not be unusual or favorable treatment for them to achieve leadership levels quickly. I think they will all do very well in service.

I honestly don't know what the Korean military is like in comparison to the US military. If J-Hope was in the US military, I am certain he would get some degree of bullying. I know this from friends I have that are currently in the military and others that used to be. I love our US military but there are some things that need to change. So, hopefully the Korean military is a little better than the US when it comes to bullying and such. I am sure J-Hope and Jin do appreciate the online support so much. But, sending thousands of letters to the military base is a bad, bad idea. Imagine if your a recruit and you have to go through these thousands of letters and mail for a celebrity? As has been said, the military base is not set up for that nor should they be. Thanks Dave!

No one knew what was going on with him in the military, until he left the military and at sometime it came out. Plus, do you really think, BTS members are going to tell ARMY, if there was something not nice or bad, they are going to tell. NOPE... Just give it some thought. I am thinking from a mom view, IF I had a child in the military, they are not going to tell, they don't want mom/parents to worry..

kpop idols have the physical endurance and strength developed through their years of training to survive in the military. in fact, some of them flourish in the military. shinee's minho, for example, was outstanding in the korean marines. however, even if kpop idols don't get bullied, they can get sexually harrassed. many kpop idols have said that when they were in the showers, they got stared at, and "checked out" -- which can only worsen an idol's pre-existing mental health issues, as in the case of shinee's taemin, who had to be transferred out of the military to finish his time in public service. granted that the military is perhaps not the institution to insist on personal privacy, but invasion of privacy is a daily thing that kpop idols have to deal with. imagine 30, 40, 50 or a hundred strangers looking at your naked body every time you shower. bts jin was not spared, when word came out that his thingie was "world-class." good for him. but what if word came out that his thingie was teeny-weeny? the public humiliation would be traumatizing. perhaps the biggest scandal that was reported involved bigbang's g-dragon, where his body's details, from moles to tattoos to shoe size, etc., noted on his physical examination, were posted online. he was moved to private quarters after this, but he was criticized for "special treatment." it's a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't situation for kpop idols, the price of fame.

The people that get these ideas stuck in their head is one of the reasons I have limited the youtube channels I watch and the amount of comments I make / comments I respond to. And the whole mail thing, people just want to send mail so they look for an excuse. Like why is it some much more important to send a letter than post a comment on Weverse? You honestly would have just as just chance of them reading your letter as they would reading your post. I would bet the guys are just happy reading a post from a fan as they would be a letter (and easier too, if your handwriting is like mine 😮) plus, they can quickly translate non-korean posts. Ugh the fandom! I hope military enlistments weed out the bad seeds and that it can get back to the loving fandom I hear used to exist years ago. I am sure the members are in better shape than most of the military members. Just watching the choreography in their music videos and shows is proof enough! Those are NOT easy routines! Dave's comment on the subject is NOT bullying those who send those letters. Millions love them! What makes you think sending them something will make you shine more than those who just support them? Put your feet on the ground and stop sending letters and things to MS camps. Respect them.

As much as I'd be loving to send letters & gifts for them while they're in military- have to be also respectful of them. They don't have that luxury to be able to open letters- let alone millions of them that would get sent.

What happens to the others in the military will happen to our bts. That is why I’m worried. I don’t want to be paranoid thinking they will be treated as Gods there for most of these trainees are far below bts in every aspect. Wish them strength health n courage to deal with any adverse situation.

I think that in the military it may be some bad people there… but I also think that there are a lot of Army fan boys and good people even if not a fan who can help and protect BTS members.

I think the men in BTS will all do well in the military because, as they have proven in their rise to the top of the music industry, that they work very very hard. The Fans sitting on the group well organized was in Japan This is how good the Collective Society can be, also has some disadvantages as well. . People especially, Fans, really need to understand what is appropriate and not. Society on the whole should see the triggers, for now most (Fans), should try not marginalize the problem this is. Today in the USA we have great problems, such as mass shootings which are quite insane. No basic solution for the USA must have Bills pass to bring the issue to be resolved. Myself, I don't own a gun any more because I haven't hunted for quite a while. Wonder how all Fans would feel because of their actions they themselves get hurt and or the Idols. If anyone understands human nature would know stalking & even saying they wish harm on a person is never justified. Peace, Love with Harmony for all.

They understand how popular they were and are grateful. But right now they most likely trying to fly under the radar and not bring attention to theirs elves. I agree in not sending physical letters to Jin or J-hope because they would not have time to read them all or even have room for so many. Writing messages on Weverse may give them a chance to read them when they can and not have to worry about having a place to put them.

I feel that all the members are intelligent, as well as at their physical peak, so why wouldn't they be a top contender for promotion. All narcissists manifest in different ways, they only think of themselves and their own self-satisfaction. These people you will never change, people do become aware, of them. I wish only the best for the boys, I believe they don't have as much pressure, and can be more themselves, in the army . 💜

All this unsupported speculation about the life of these two young men (continuously calling them boys does not help them at all in the military) seems well-intentioned but is based on a full lack of understanding of either military culture/protocols or the expectations of recruits in the military. These young men will emerge from the military very different with more maturity and experience in living. Why would someone steal their belongings? Seriously how is that a question? To sell to make big money. Everyone knows who they are so targeting not them but their "stuff" is not even unusual. Here is the bottom line. As much as everyone wants 24/7 news about these 2 soldiers (call them what they are in their current job as referring to them by other terms is not in their best interest) currently they are not BTS members, they are military soldiers in training to protect South Korea. They are becoming experts in small arms, rifles, hand-to-hand combat, and many other skills to save their lives and the lives of their brothers in arms they are sworn to protect.....and to kill the enemy. How to kill another human to protect South Korea or wherever they are assigned. This is NOT summer camp. The military has many significant social issues tied to bullying, sexual assault, and intentional harm within a squad or platoon. The research is easy to find on this and if you have never been around the military (regardless of what country) you will find they suffer from the same social successes and issues. How each of these two soldiers is personality-wise is irrelevant....what are their survival skills, what are their skills in creating trust among their platoon members, and what is the level of respect they have earned, not as idols...which will work against them making the bar higher for them to prove themselves with their military peers; no offense, but if my sons were in platoons with these two young men, I would encourage them to seek a transfer following boot camp and put as much distance between my sons and these young men as possible. They have the potential to attract far too much unwanted, potentially dangerous attention that can easily compromise the lives of their platoon members from both within the military and from their fanbase. My family has 12 generations of experience with the military and while it is necessary to protect freedom.....it is a high-risk profession that requires the sacrifice of both the military members and their family members. It is not a K-pop training camp cacoon.

Only those who are in the Korean army together with Jin and J-Hope can know what is going on. I don't think anyone gets any special treatment. Dave, you make a lot of good points, but you did not mention that after the entire country got involved in whether or not BTS should get a military exception, I can assure you that the military has every intention of making absolutely certain that nothing happens to BTS members, which would be a PR nightmare for the military! The only real issue is whether BTS members are getting "preferential" treatment, which I am sure they are - where is matters. Not a better cot or mattress, better uniform, better food, etc., but more respect, and care for their safety. The military is simply not going to take any risks where BTS is concerned.

If only J-Hope had enlisted a month sooner, he would have returned in September 2024 and we could have had "2Seok for Chuseok" in 2024! LOL oh well, it would have looked cute on a shirt. Next summer and fall will be so fun when they return. They are such good-natured guys.

THIS EXACTLY WHY BTS SHOULD HAVE BEEN EXEMPTED FROM THE MILITARY. They have given their Country ‘MORE’ than any artist I’m aware of. Dave, I luv ya,💜but you’re being naive about someone being thrown in jail for any of the crimes you cited. Just take a look at NYC, LA, Chicago, Philly, etc. Unfortunately, prosecutors are not sending criminals to jail. Hopefully, South Korea takes these actions more serious than the US.
