Күн бұрын

Economist and author Jim Rickards joins us at Small Caps headquarters to discuss his latest book 'Aftermath'.
Jim shares his views on the current state of the global economy and why he believes we are headed for a major global financial crisis in the near future that will be greater than 2008.
Discussed is how investors can prepare and even benefit from the collapse.
Gold set to make a comeback as money and why a $10,000 per ounce gold price is not out of the question.
We go into Jim's work for the US government & CIA, and ask if they know the collapse is coming and are preparing for it.
The role of the US dollar and its future.

The problem I never hear Jim Rickards address is the fact that gold is used in the electronics industry and others. Plus there is the retail bullion market (Royal Mint, Perth Mint, Pamp, Degussa, Sharps Pixley, etc.) and the jewellery market. So if the price per ounce of gold is artificially inflated to $10,000, will this adversely affect the electronics industry, the retail bullion market, and the jewellery market? 🤔

Gertrude Perkins Sure it will. Instead of seeing the gold going up, consider the fiat going down. When gold was at 10K, an oz might buy as much bread, butter or petrol like now. Your dollars would possibly by less by the factor 6 then. Electronics would probably not mch more effected than everything else, since the amounts of precious metals within them is relatively low anyway. Gold at 10K will not necassarily make you rich, but it will preserve your purchasing power.

How quickly people forget - we had deeper, longer and closer together recessions, monopolies, a gilded age and a depression on gold back, read a history book. And now on fiat, we have had numerous, but less destructive recessions, monopolies, a gilded age, a great recession and what comes next. It all can be misused and manipulated or it can be used to create a strong economy. Through classical liberalism and neoliberalism, think greed is good, they both failed. You can not have a strong economy without a strong middle class. Until fiscal policy benefits them, the middle class, to offset fed monetary policy benefiting supply side naturally, we have a demand side that will not have it - to spend it. Unsustainable in a Democracy.

Even if it gets to the point of gold being the medium of exchange I doubt anyone will sleep well. I do own gold actually. So far, my point is correct. Productive assets have increased in value more than gold over the last 2 years. We shall see how the game plays out.

If you don’t understand please ask and i would do my best to clarify. It is life or death important that humanity understand that the gold market is going to crash. Gold mining would stop destroying the planet, Russia could bankrupt and end the war in Ukraine, and fortunes would not be squandered. What can be done with the gold in reserves, that are useless inside a vault, like in the Fort Knox in America? Only to sell it. How much cost taxpayers to protect the gold? Fortunes. To sell the gold today spares to pay for the protection tomorrow. If an innocent kid received 5 sweets as pocket money every week and had 1 gram of gold protected inside a vault that could sell for 100 sweets but the protection of the mineral would cost him 1 sweet a week, when would the kid sell?

I find some of this discussion tends to fall off the rails when Jim talks about a small trusted bartering community that magically uses silver coins. At that point, you just use IOUs because you don't need the metal. The real value of gold is to transition and possibly increase your wealth over the course of a big reset to new monetary and financial systems. Ergo, a store of wealth during big changes. My instinct is that this also drives the relationship between gold and inflation but unfortunately is probably a low correlation over shorter time frames. Said another way, gold should rise in (maintain) value as governments try and inflate away their obligations (and increase taxes on everything) with fiat.
@scubaduba9389

Good point and IOUs work where there is trust between parties. Would I be able to barter that IOU you gave me (because we trusted each other and made an exchange of my seedling plants for your promise to repay me when you had produce) with my car mechanic who doesn't know you or your ability to pay?
@jpbrindamour5467
@jpbrindamour5467 4 жыл бұрын
@@scubaduba9389 My understanding of the conversation (small communities) is that I DO know the car mechanic. The IOUs could also have a simple community ledger. This was basically used for most of history and is making a comeback with crypto. It was also used for managing wars and, at the time, large infrastructure projects. In a small community, you just need a symbol of a store of wealth (and the ledger makes sure you are not printing away in the tool shed). I am also assuming that a small community does not have the time or expertise to start a mint. Speaking of printing away... hmmm... who does that make me think of?? I hope everyone has a good fed day tomorrow. ;)

Another American that doesn’t understand that Greenland is a country and money isn’t the most important thing to most people. National identity and solidarity is often more important. Denmark cannot sell Greenland, because it’s an independent country. The prime minister said it’s an absurd idea, because it ignores fundamental international law. Even if Greenland was still danish, it would not be up to the prime minister, but rather the people, ideally the people in Greenland. Essentially selling a part of your country is slavery, the fact that it isn’t obvious to a lot of Americans tells me a lot of their state of mind

if gold goes 100$/day, and end at let’s say, 20000$/oz, who will be able to buy gold? Actualy 4200t/y of gold is produce, and 1/2 is for jewellery (2100t). Addind that 1/2 of this 2100t is consum by china and india. The actual, all in sustainable price for producing gold is around 1000$/oz. At 20000$/oz there will be no demand, too much supply and price will fall, like bitcoin... for an exemple find a graphic of the price of gold from 1 January of 2008 to 30 dec 2008. During this year, The price of gold fall by half... it is the direct result of the chiness being hit by the economic crisis and there consuming power drop... after all, why buying gold if tomorrow you are losing your job... the price of gold restart to climb after the ccp start big big big economic stimulus, and demand restart. Simple as that. It take around 10 years from discoveries to production, for a gold mine. That explain why the price of gold climb from 2001 to 2012, the ccp, with is boom, and unlimited money supply and big consumer, they pressure the price of gold, until over supply, in 2011 and a decline start for thé price of gold. in my point of view, gold is not a safe heaven like said/repeat by the MSM. A safe heaven is something more stable, that you know will keep is value through a crisis, rather then fluctuating as the price of gold is doing now. What will you tell to the guys who bought at 20000$/oz after the price of gold redrop to a more logical value? That said, it is now in the brain of people, that gold is a safe heaven and they run for it. the big plan is once Judy shelton will be at the fed, she will introduce is tressury bond that you will have the choice to convert by gold or us dollard, in resume you will betting wich between gold or us dollard will worth most at the end of your holding... with price of gold sky rocket by all the people who will have run for safe heaven... it will be an easy choice to select US dollard, because gold won’t be able to go any further high. It will support US dollar. That’s said, since 2018 the demand for US gold backed etf have climb (gold council demand reports) those guys behind the scene will be very happy to sell to the poor guys the once of gold he have bought at 1250$/oz for 20000$/oz same Ponzi scheme as the bitcoin jim... it won’t take long the price of gold will drop to match the producing cost. After that, Those who will have make money with this, will immediately put money in the market like ETF SPDR S&P 500, witch will be down by 80%. Those index are impossible to go bankrupt and it is not tomorrow that we will stop buying stuff Good days!! Judy shelton write this in 2012... gold and governement: poseidon01.ssrn.com/delivery.php?ID=755006069070006075004064019020111124054081028050051017127068090125004066068089079027054000019062029017012020075094111099098101016013039080081067009083069109080118098086006066114098106028065000016022127084107088031080103023095068083079008126065073123004&EXT=pdf Hope the Link work

So when I can't buy gas to fuel my private jet and then need to ride my bike to my secret vault filled with gold bars, what will I do with them exactly? Sell them for worthless paper money? Shave off 10 dollars worth (which will be 0.001oz at Rickards' predicted $10,000/oz) with my ultra precision gold bar shaving machine and laboratory grade scale to buy some milk which will somehow still be available even though I can't even get gas to fuel my car? Even if someone sounds smart because they talk fast and use big words, it doesn't mean that their assumptions or conclusions are rational, reasonable, correct, or free from independent agendas. This is fear mongering and it needs to be recognized as such because it is a powerful a tactic to drive behavior (like driving up the price of gold or beating the drums of war). Fear mongering is one of the primary tactics our country's current leadership is using to garner political support at the expense of public morality. Fear, hate, anger, division, internal strife... all used to distract us while banks and large corporations pocket our bail out money. The answer? Apparently it isn't to focus our government on stopping the looters. Clearly we should hoard gold and put it in a vault within biking distance. Oh and don't forget, we need to focus on attentions on China. They are the problem, not the parasites in our banking system and government that are eating away at us from the inside out as a nation. Ummm... -_-

@TheVandolizm -- 🧡💛💚💙 The market had the choice to use Bitcoin as CASH but decided *it is the ultimate long term store of value* and has chosen to pick Bitcoin as the World Standard for storing value in long term. Yes, even more-so than Gold in the future. But they can work together anyway. Bitcoin is NOT a cash competitor. It competes against the U.S. Treasury ... the Risk Free Rate... This is controversial today because BTC is Market cap $160 billion, and its 2019. But feel free to quote me in 2024, 2028, 2032... we will have a clearer picture then. I'm already invested 90% of my portfolio into BTC and Holding for a long long time.... Dont miss out my friend. You ask the right questions. By the way, yes, Alt Coins definitely can Rival Cash ... but with this deep bear market, I think the shackles can only be lifted once BTC breaks $20k and moons to $50k or something ... Anyway, good luck brother. I've already got my bets on... I hope you do too! 🧡💛💚💙

@TheVandolizm -- Very simple. Throughout human history, we humans have always spent the bad money, but kept the good money to ourselves. Countless examples. By the way, you can't just say "GFC" because we don't know what the next recession will be. What if its a currency crises? That means no confidence in the currency you hold, because of lower value.. printing money.... people will Opt to hoard their BTC + Gold and spend the Fiat cash... We cant say for sure what will happen in a GFC or currency crises. This is true, the next test will be for Bitcoin, how it performs when the S&P500 has a 20-30% down turn.
