Jim Varney talks to the beautiful Joan Lunden about how the Ernest craze is sweeping the nation. You see him get to comment on one of his funniest commercials...the merry-go-round spot where he falls off and the camera comes back around and he is still laying on the ground.

@@valdez380 Yeah I shouldn't have said that, I should have dogged Verney for being a tool of the devil, the man was nothing more than a joke in life, I'm sorry I ever watched him or even know who he was. I did remove that comment. All Jimmy did for people was comfort them with useless lies, the guy was teaching occult shit to children, he is weeping and gnashing his teeth now, he learned God isn't a joke. He should have used his life for something useful like telling kids about Jesus rather than teaching them to be biblical fools.

Jeez it is a damn shame the world never got to see Jim step outside this, albeit amazing & iconic, character. He apparently was a force on stage...and everything about the way he moves, the way he speaks, suggests it to be the case. When he’s doing interviews or whatever...you can SEE the wheels turning almost...clearly a considered, thoughtful dude. As a kid I loved Ernest. Obvious. But as an adult if you just watch and listen, you see what we’ve all missed out on since he’s left us. Id give my left pointy finger to have him back and doing character work in movies and prestige television,....but at any cost, I hope he found his peace.

E Johnson, this is a news interview, not a commercial. If you are referring to the commercial clips they showed, there was only one actor so I wouldn't expect there to be diversity? This is besides the point that he clearly stated that these were made for local demographics, small rural communities, not big city stuff where you would see such diversity. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Maggie, because like'em or not (and I think you do) at least hair on heads had style! I was asking my wife just yesterday, after watching something with a male host, "When did bed-hair come into fashion?' At first, a year back or so, first notice this (and, forget doing until now), I believe I thought, wow, there's a man with confidence! Not a bit put off his speech by concern his hair might spoil the reception of his point of view (or, whatever he was about). Now, I realize I.., who no comb, no barber, no stylist could ever help, am just jealous. I think about all that money left on barbershop floors over 67 years of visits. And, I envy the confidence such bravado required to be seen in public, to talk up a first date, a first interview, or to the flat-topped Marine now cop, writing a ticket.

There you go. She had an IQ that tested between 160 and 170 and yet, she embraced the very first dumb blonde type character the world had ever seen at least as we know the character I'm modern times. She knew the money and fame were in selling sex however she was a genius, in MENSA, and a hopeless romantic who in her last decade became totally devoted to motherhood and spending time with and sharing her children with the world even bringing them, including a 2 or 3 year old Mariska, to old late night talk shows on stage with her. You can tell that he had so much love for his craft AND his fans! He really had a great heart, and all of our youth's were the better for it!! Ernest = Earnest! R.I.P. Jim Varney! ❤️😔🙏

I didn't either until really recently. I bought a collection of his work and there were a couple discs of his commercials. Realized while watching it that I had seen some as a small child and just thought I was remembering bits of his movies. Always loved his films.
