Jimi Hendrix wasn't the Greatest Guitarist of All-Time because he was the Fastest or Played the Most Complex Chords... he was the Greatest of All-Time because he gave us Absolutely Everything that he had, Every Single Time he performed for us... Jimmy J Page is in my top 3. Hendrix is great, but calling him the best is just the popular thing to do. Stevie Ray Vaughan can play Hendrix's stuff EXACTLY like Hendrix and is an overall better player, in my opinion. Eddie Van Halen's my favorite. Or maybe Steve Vai.

@@Deedee-ee1sg my job is to educate the uneducated. obviously you donrt play guitar. if you did, you would automatically realize hendrix is not rock at all. but his use of feedback and distortion miss identified him as rocvk by all ntyhe copiers of his day, including black sabbath, deep purple and pink floyd. their attemptred mimicry led to the foundation of heavy metal. hendrix is considered a founding of heavy metal but jimi himself was a blues man who was charting new musical ideas entirely on a differentb path than rock. no one could catergorize his music, it fell outside all music boundaries. so the rock establishment called him a rock guitarist while hendrix was aptly described as 'a cross between mozart and beethoven', by the bass player of his own group 'Band of Gypsies'. and of course chuck berry, the rocfk and roll king was an accomplished blues guitarist first. in fact blues is the foundation of all modern music, icluding rock, rock and roll, rap ,hiphop and jazz.

Over the many decades there’s been many (& let’s not name them) who said Jimi couldn’t play blues. Just listen to his voice & his guitar interpretation - Jimi has soul, from his head down thro’ his boots. I’m in the ‘old lady’ age bracket now & have been mesmerised by Jimi’s vocal skills & technical ability since I was 14 years old. He’s A no.1, no doubting. RIP JAH (J.A.Hendrix), JaneR

Can you please me more specific about how this song reflects Jimi's Cherokee heritage? I'm at a loss. Now, a song like "Cherokee Mist" even though it is an instrumental I can see how that is obviously related to the Cherokee people by way of the title Jimi chose to give it.

+tunefultony johnson Oh you mean the guitar that sold for $380000? That mad moment of Hendrix made rock and roll history, in fact even if he didn't set his guitar on fire he still would have made rock and roll history anyway (which he did), because he was an iconic guitarist. Also I wouldn't say he came across as a wanker, he actually came across as quite a down to earth person, that fair enough liked to indulge in drugs but that was his choice. So I wouldn't personally call him a wanker. Personal opinion :)

The immediacy of expression without thought - in the moment, expressed freely. Wow - and steeped in the roots of his soul. Freed from social anxieties about the blues, safe with these musicians...and the music he manifested cut through the atmosphere of the gig or wove into and through and around the crew he was playing with. Way to go Jimi! Bless you bro!!!!

He wasn't the first electric guitar lead player, and definitely wasn't a pioneer of distorted sound, but he squeezed all juice out of that gear and played like nobody played ever before. You just listen to that tone. Amp is literally crying and screaming, this is the physical limit of what was possible at the time, and Jimi was able to tame that beast. It sounds so wild and just on the limit, ready to snap, crack and catch on fire :D Damn there is power behind that sound, and there is power behind those notes.

mike albert You gotta be kidding me, right? Jimi playing neon? Firstly you are comparing different generations and secondly, if there was no Hendrix, Mayer wouldnt play like he is now.
