That's an awesome story, thanks for sharing! My dad also saw Jimi in 68' in San Francisco when he was 21. Just the same, he said the performance was like nothing else he had ever heard at the time, with the feedback and distortion etc. The performance of Red House he saw is what stands out the most to him, is what he has always told me.

I too am 70 years old, and I too saw him live in 1968. I was 420 miles south of you in Virginia Beach when his music set the auditorium on fire and changed my musical direction completely. I am thankful his music was all his own and therefore is timeless. I am still grooving to him. After hearing all the others--all the great ones who have come since he broke ground for them--I still resort back to him when I want to listen to pure, unique and mind-blowing innovation. Brother, I can so relate to your words and feelings about this man and his music.

There is an ancient Chinese curse which says, "May you live in interesting times!". Well we certainly have, and lived to tell about it. What a long, strange trip its been! I know exactly what you mean about needing a shot of that pure creative innovation. The thing about the late 60s was that something completely new was being created. Almost every week we were hearing sounds that had never been heard before. From The Beatles to Hendrix to Coltrane and Miles, the creative floodgates were wide open. Music, fashion and the arts were a dazzling adventure that we were just the right age to take part in. Maybe I'm just a grumpy old man, but most of what I hear and see now, seems to be just a hi-tech rehash of something that I heard 50 years ago. Some of the greatest music ever made was recorded on 4 track analog machines. Now it sometimes seems that the more advanced the technology, the more the product comes out tasting like unsalted oatmeal! We are being auto-tuned to death. Maybe I'm just getting old. Anyway, we were very lucky to have experienced "The Real Deal". The truly original and innovative stays fresh, even through these "interesting times"! Be well and prosper!

Their was a live album where he played hound dog the Elvis version . I only saw it once, in, a record store, but, never again.

@bigstU25 Absolutely! As I never saw any other reactor videos, I assumed it was one that just got blocked. I know SoulTrainBro did MG from New Year's 1970 and that didn't survive. But yes, this video performance is one that really showcases Jimi's talent. The Berkeley shows Jimi seemed to be in great spirits and it shows in his performance. Other videos, like Isle of Wight and Stockholm you can see Jimi just isn't in to it, seems moody etc. Maui is another good one where Jimi seems not to be distracted by the pressures and hassles he was enduring.

@bigstU25 Oh yeah, agree on all points there man. Copenhagen is incredible! There is a four or five source merge of all the audience tapes in circulation and it really improves the sound and dynamic of that concert. Hard to believe two week after that he was having his last night on earth. :(((((((((((((((((((((((((( Newport jam Day on June 22/69 is also great footage. And of course BoG. Sadly there isn't enough Jimi video available to really do him justice. He was so dynamic live! It just sucks that some of the video that does exist of him is either poorly shot, sadly incomplete or he isn't in greatest frame of mind. IoW is great, and the ones you mention are killer, but the overall concert you can just see how is bothered or disinterested or wasn't in a jovial frame of mind, like he was at Berkeley for example. Nice hearing from someone who has more than a cursory interest in Jimi!
