The thing about life that we always only half understand what people are saying. In the early days of the Trump presidency someone asked a bunch of translators how they handled Trump word salad nonsense and the translators all said, "I try to figure out what he's trying to say and I remove the bits which are too offensive for TV." Trump fans are the same way, they hear what they want to hear and they remove the offensive bits. It would be worse for conservatives if Trump were clear because then people could argue about what he says but when he's spouting gibberish you can always argue that he was misunderstood.
