According to Chris Martin it was actually Jin who initiated the entire Coldplay collaboration starting with BTS's cover of Coldplay's Fix You, then came My Universe and then The Astronaut. The Astronaut is actually not the vocal range we're used to from Jin. It's quite a bit lower than his usual songs which came as a surprise to many but it makes perfect sense when you consider that it was Coldplay who wrote the melody. The MV is jampacked with easter eggs like Chris was the news anchor on the TV, the guitar in his room was Chris's own that he gifted to Jin who also plays, the black squares in Jin's crossword say "FOR ARMY" in braille, his tattoo says ARMY, the girl's helmet is purple as she represents ARMY and many many more. The Astronaut very much represents Jin's own life. He's said that he used to feel lost like he was just "floating around" but that BTS and ARMY helped him find himself. You'll notice that in the beginning of the MV he shows no emotions but the little girl teaches him how to feel pride and love and how to smile. He's called back to the spaceship (South Korea/enlistment) but in the end he returns to us because we're his home and family. I highly recommend Jin's solo song within BTS called Moon which is again about space and how ARMY is the Earth that he revolves around. It's also a great example of the vocal range he usually tends to favour in his own songs. 💜

It was the first time we had to see one of them leave for enlistment, and Jin knew it was hard for us, so he basically did everything he could to give us as much love as possible before enlisting. Coldplay have been amazing seniors to all BTS, even defending them when interviewers try to throw them shade. The Astronaut was a song dedicated to us Army's by Jin before going to military. The girl represents as Armys and Jin being the astronaut himself that crashed on earth and together learned from each other. The amount times I've cried listening to The Astronaut and watching that live performance... This song is so good and beutiful! This song is a love letter to the fandom Army because he was leaving for the military (he’s been serving since 12/13/2022). He asked Chris from Coldplay to help him write and produce this song. Jin has a song called Moon. He says he is the Moon and Armys is the Earth which is beautiful and bright to him. So this is kind of a play on that…Basically the little girl is Army. He meets her..spends time with her…enjoys his time with her…helps her..encourages her…Then ultimately has to leave her. However the concept of the video is he is the alien that crash landed on Earth. The relationship between Coldplay and BTS is sweet and genuine but to me it’s at another level between Chris Martin and Jin. Astronaut is a “see you later” song that Jin has dedicated to Army and it’s my favorite. Jin is the astronaut who crash landed to earth. While his ship is being repaired he lived amongst the earthlings and made a friend. The little girl represents BTS Army. He gets a signal from his ship that it is ready to leave so that complete his mission. Yes, he is a big fan and got to play with them, but the relationship between Jin and Coldplay is one of equals - they are both worldwide superstars. Jin and Chris have a friendship relationship. Chris gave Jin his guitar during the “My Universe” promotions, and Jin asked Chris to write the music for his “see you later” song to ARMY - because he knew he COULD ask and not be turned down. The white astronaut plushie next to the drums is actually a character Jin created and his name is Wootteo 😭😭 thats one of Jins sons, the other one is RJ (not real sons btw fjdkddk dont get the wrong idea) the plushie on the stage has been touring with Coldplay since last year and its so cute how they bring him everywhere. A piece of Jin is with them every concert they do, Coldplay and Jins relationship is absolutely adorable (and BTS as a whole). Not to brag but i also have my own wootteo plushie at home with me🥹 its one of my most prized possession

You should check Chris' intro as to how this song came about. You can also find it here on yt The Astronaut is Jin's temporary goodbye song before entering the army which he did a few weeks after. He flew in 36 hours to perform a 5 minute song.

He was happy because the song was for ARMY. Not because he was singing with Coldplay. There is mutual respect there.

Since this was his 'goodbye' song before military service, my interpretation is that the astronaut does leave & go back to space. But for just a little while (like going into the military). When he returns, his bike is gone so he has to hitch a ride back to ARMY (the little girl) and his chosen home.

“k-pop king” HAHAHAHA 😂 That title wouldn't be bad, but no, in reality the crowd was shouting “Kim SeokJin” 💜 The song was a kind of gift from Jin to all the armys on the occasion of his enlistment for military service in Korea, That's why it is a very moving song for all fans. It's also very moving to see the live performance, especially knowing that he flew like 40 hours just to sing that song 💜😿

You asked if Jin likes space and although I can’t answer that for him personally, I can tell you that BTS have several songs that refer to the universe including “My Universe”, a collaboration between BTS and Coldplay”. Jin has a solo called “Moon”. A few other BTS songs with this theme are “Heartbeat”, “Mikrokosmos”, “134340” (Pluto). Also, this was Coldplay’s “Music of the Spheres” tour. Several have explained that the girl represents ARMY and this can be seen in other members’ solo MVs. Basically, anytime you see a child or 6 additional people in a video, it’s either ARMY or the remaining members (example: in Suga’s Daechwita and Haegeum, he’s rolling with his crew of 6 (members) and in Daechwita there’s also one female representative of ARMY. Also, you said you were surprised that Jin’s song was a bit slower and it didn’t seem like what you’ve heard from BTS so far. There are several so-called Easter eggs in their videos. Items you find there usually have a deeper meaning or symbolizes their previous videos. The posters, the drawings. Chris Martin played cameo role as the news anchorperson. BTS music always have deeper meaning as depicted not only in the lyrics but things you see in the video. The ten year old girl represents army that he is leaving for a while as he enlists for the mandatory military training for 18 months. There is a Braille tattoo in his neck which you can see when he rode the pickup truck. Likewise the black blocs on the crossword puzzle is Braille for army.
