The song is about Tatiana's struggles with Seasonal Affective disorder and how she will recover and return like the perennial flowers in spring. As vocal coach you would love "Judgement and Punishment" (One take vocal performance). You will be able to see her technique up close.

Kudos for trying the growls, and don't feel bad - she started getting serious about learning to perform in 2002 or 2003, singing with every band that would let her (7 before Jinjer and a side project after) and didn't start performing with growls until the band before Jinjer in 2008. Since then she's been constantly growing with noticeably better both growls and cleans over intervals of about 2 years. As with so many things there's no substitute for time, though your related experience and knowledge will no doubt shortcut the process. Cheers!

Hi, YOSC! Great reaction to this live performance by Jinjer. I love Tati's speaking voice, with its depth and pure tone. Jinjer plays to backing tracks, which provide instrumentals that are impractical to tour with, as well as backing vocals and growl layering. This is a difficult way to perform live because it can make the performance sound mechanical and lifeless. It's a testament to Jinjer's musicianship that the band never sounds artificial or plodding. Amazing! I think you'd like the songs Teacher Teacher and Vortex.

This is such a beautifully poetic song, lyrically. And musically it's got such a contrast between it's soft almost lullaby moments and it's absolute brutality. Obviously Tati is the main attraction with Jinjer. But this was the first song where I realized how brilliant the rest of them are. On that long one breath belt she does, notice the complicated chord progression they play behind it. It's not at all what you expect musically, yet after hearing it you realize it's perfect and how could you possibly expect anything else. The band is incredibly tight. They truly play as one singular instrument, with complete synergy, equaling something greater than the sum of their parts. also I can't help but notice a pitch difference in this video, which I've seen at least 100 times. It almost sounds slowed down. I don't notice it sounding slower, but it sounds lower, the way something does when it's slowed down. Edit: It does in fact seem to be a bpm or 2 slower on your video than when I play it from the source. Must have happened in the editing. Just an observation. Thought I was going crazy.

Agree there is much more to observe, respect, and admire with the whole band. 👍. Very bummed about the slow down, that did happen without me realizing it, I’ve noticed it before with some other videos and it has to do with the format of the video that I download not being compatible with my editing software. Will be mindful of this with future Jinjer reactions!!!

As soon as the song started I immediately noticed that the speed wasn't right and when it slows down, the pitch usually follows. But it's not constant, for some reason it goes in and out of speed during the video. Btw, it's _"between _*_its_*_ soft almost lullaby moments and _*_its_*_ absolute brutality."_ 😉

The Power of Tatiana's vocals sear over the crowd amazingly, as for her Screams & Growls, they're perfect. [Tatiana first practiced "growling" whilst screaming out the song "Dig" at traffic beside a highway back in Ukraine where she started her journey.] Practise makes perfect but overall if you're new to Growling it shouldn't hurt your throat, if it does then you're not doing it right. It is the 'false vocal folds' that are engaged when making such sounds.

Great reaction! Liked and subbed! You're getting the subtlety as well as the power of Tatiana. She's not just screaming. There is so much control, technique, expression, pure passion in her vocal delivery. She gets her whole body involved in a way few can. Her performance level reminds me of P!nk or Gaga. Then add the harsh vocals! She's stunning! Someone once said the human voice is the ultimate synthesizer, and that stuck with me. I'm a devotee of the variety of sounds that can come out of a human being's mouth. It's an endlessly fascinating variety. Tatiana is my favorite singer because she can do SO MUCH with her voice. So many colors, flavors, and textures! She's an artiste. A Picasso of vocals.

One of my favorite parts of this videoi is at the beginning. Tati walks to Vlad the bald drummer and starts primping her hair. As if to say to Vlad, "hey look, I have hair". So vlad starts primping his own imaginary hair back at her. That sort of playful banter is a sign that it's probably never a dull moment being in this band. ❤🤍💙

1:25 - Tatiana doesn't hold the mic like that just to be cool or because it's so "Rock". She has explained in many interviews that she does it because her hands are small and she's afraid to drop the mic, so by grabbing it that way she has more grip. She has also mentioned that grabbing the mic the "normal" way made her feel like an ESC singer. 6:22 - Don't worry, Tatiana said that the first time she tried it she sounded like a cow. She was so disappointed that she almost gave up. Fortunately she didn't. 😀 7:45 - In case you're wondering, the vocal harmonies in this part were added in post-production. They use backing tracks with noises, sound effects or additional guitar and vocal parts for some songs, which are launched from a laptop controlled by Vlad (the drummer) that also supplies the click track that everyone has in their in-ear monitors to keep everything in perfect alignement, but this wasn't the case.

The band plays with contrast the whole time, by changing from smooth to harsh singing, by means of the lyrics, and by Tati physical expression on stage, and by the imagery on their videos... Duality is everywhere. It unsettles you, invites you to a not always easy journey. The result is so rich! It is not merely theatrical, it's meaningful, profound.

Hi! Really enjoyed how you paid attention to the small details like hair flip and usage of a massive stage space (omg I cannot imagine how that feels to be performing in such a big space, this is so top-notch professional)! If you take requests from the comments section, I would try and recommend watching an awesome performance of a Japanese band called Dir en Grey with their song Vinushka. There is a great translation made by Kaya from their A View Of The Acro concert. If would be so interesting to hear your professional commentary about that because there are so many cool things about what the vocalist is doing both performance-wise is vocally. This is not a typical metal concert presentation and I love this band because of how they turn every single track into a work of art with their lives. There is also heavy growling/screaming parts from the vocalist as well as amazing clean tones and I hope you will enjoy his voice as much as we, their fans, do!

I came across Jinjer a few weeks ago for the first time and its a crazy rabbit hole , I have spent days just watching reaction vids its full time thing in itself. Her lyrics are very deep and this as with pieces it was the duality that us a pisces face Pisces swimming through the river All their life against the stream Searching for a hook to catch on and see their sun beam Then suffocate in painful tortures Then this song Perennial" by Jinjer is a song about the cycle of life and death. It speaks of a moment where the speaker, inspired by nature and the changing of the seasons, is saying goodbye to an old, exhausted life and looking forward to a new one. The lyrics of the song also reflect the cyclical nature of life, as death is followed by rebirth, resembling the idea that life is a circle. The song goes on to reflect on the destruction of life to make way for something new, and finally, it looks to the renewing of life from the ashes of death, acknowledging the beauty of both destruction and rebirth. I highly suggest Teacher Teacher thats a amazing performace but the her songwriting is AMAAZIIINGGGGGGG ""Good evening, kids. Take your seats. Open up your Bibles I’m gonna chastise a rival so keep your eyes wide open The young soul lost control, made her first faul This is my duty to set the bounds Dear Lord, forgive me as I’m slapping this sinful child By your hand I’m led so I will show what is wrong and what is right When their prejudice let us down We stand firmly on our ground Don’t let their school make a fool of you Because the teachers may be fools too its a rabbit hole FOR SURE and the band and her and the lyrics are on a whole other Im hooked lol

My favorite thing about this band is that they treat the soft, quiet parts with the same respect they give the full-blown metal. There's not even a begrudging "yeah, we know this is necessary, but we can't wait to head-bang" feeling to it. They don't look bored or as if they aren't into it, and that's great.

I have absolutely zero understanding of vocal technique and am probably a worse singer than I realize, but I have had success with harsh vocals, especially growls, by focusing on the area where deep breathing is controlled, around your center of gravity in the hips. You have to summon that monster from deep inside.
@saltydroog854

It's more than her just having it dialed in. She also has a much deeper speaking voice than you, and likely a larger larynx and pharynx, and just over all bigger resonant space. I'm no expert, but I would imagine with a growl that is little to no actual vocal pitch production and really just resonance of tissue vibration, the large resonant space makes for something that is more god given than learned. Of course she is skilled beyond measure, but she also is working with equipment I think most of us just don't have, especially women.

I have always been a metal head and listened to the usual metal bands of that era. I remember the band Warlock at Monsters of Rock in Munich. The band was good, but the lead singer was beautiful. She was amazing, and there was an instant connection made just by seeing her. Fast forward to about 6 years ago, and I see my first Jinjer video Pisces and after the disbelief wore off on her vocal abilities wham that connection was made again. Now that’s an old one! There are a couple of pre/early Jinjer vids floating around.

Hey, nice reaction. Not sure about the reggae and Nirvana cover, but "Judgement (& Punishment)" - Tatiana Shmayluk - One Take Vocal Performance kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h5uimsJnmLnMoZs.html should be interesting for you as a vocal teacher - you can really see Tati's throat and mouth in that one.

This video is in a lower octave??? Did you do that in editing? If not you clicked on the wrong video😬

I love anyone reacting to Jinjer but could I respectfully ask if you are going to pause the track could you please rewind by at least 5 seconds as you/we are missing that time when you pause the track. Thank you.

The mike cupping in the beginning may look cool, but it defeats the passive noise cancelation built into microphones since the 60s. I don't recommend it.

She's talked about why she does it. It gives a different sound when you cup it so you can use it to embellish certain phrases. If you'll notice she also keeps her thumb over the center of the mic. She does that to protect her lips and teeth. She's talked about people throwing things and hitting the mic and it hitting her teeth. Its also smart with all of the jumping around and head banging. It would be easy to bust your lip or chip a tooth.

This is a great discussion here! You’re right that it changes the sound, and generally not in a favorable way. I was taught to never touch or cover the head of the mic, but nowadays everyone’s doing it! And yes, the reasons oldscratch gave are two great reasons to break the rules in my humble opinion. Basically I think you’re both right! 👍👍

Очень сложно смотреть реакцию, когда через каждые 10 секунд обрывается всё на свете. Ни лайк, ни дизлайк. Не интересно постоянно дёргаться.
