NO NO IT CANT BE TRUE!!! SAY IT AINT SO!!! I get so much entertainment value out of JL audio.. like when someone is puzzled by the fact i wont take their 12w6 in a straight trade for a 18 that can handle 4000 rms but priced at what they paid for their w6. the look on their face when i tell them just how basic that $600 w6 is.. absolutely priceless. gets me all gitty inside.. shit im goin to go find a jl nuthugger right now just make my day better.. lmao..

Hi Patrick! Awesome vid as usual! I have a w7 top plate that i need to re-align, what size pvc (or whatever you may use) shim do you use? I already ruined one set of spider/coils, id rather not do that again! Thanks! Keep up the good work for us ridiculous bassheads!

The ones I have here I just made from 4" white PVC from Home Depot. The 1mm thick sheet of Teflon I got from McMaster Carr but you can use plastic / overhead viewer sheets to get the same thickness. The PVC shims are 2.2mm thick.

The lord of bass has solder that he sells with a rosin that heat up rest hot and sticks to it. I also bought some aluminum solder from lowes for ac repair it works too.

Buy electronic (not plumbing-it’s acidic) flux separately, and apply with a syringe if necessary - it will assist with a better flow of solder in general. Also, I’m sure you know this, but just in case, use a proper mix of leaded/tin rosin flux core solder like 60/40 or 63/37.

Excellent, thank you all for the tips. Just an fyi from me, I have found that you can get very high quality, high temperature aluminum coated wire from the secondary windings of microwave oven transformers. For those who enjoy making their own voice coils. I have one made that I have been testing using the lord of bass coil adhesive in a alpine type r motor and getting great results. Trying to find someone locally who can pull parameters for me. The wire I salvaged is appx. 28 gauge and yielded a dcr of around 7 ohms per coil using the factory coil wind height and length.

You can actually sell the dead one for some good money if you can find a buyer. It's better just to buy a real sub for $300 or less from me. That sub is good but not $800 good.
