They are defined and built and used in definitive terms. When the term first was used, it was to define all regions of America that spoke French, Spanish and Portuguese. The term was used by the USA too but ended up being strongly about self identity after some time. But that’s not here or there. Brazilians are Latino because they speak Portuguese and are a part of Latin America. Those are definitions. How one identifies oneself than it’s more complex and relative as hell.

As a Brazilian Latino, it's still so relatable because in our family, whenever one decides to get married, we always invite the cousins from other states whose faces we've never seen, but because they're my grandma's oldest sister's offspring, we feel compelled to do so. In my town we have a pre-wedding party, mostly close family members and a lot of alcohol, then after the wedding, el recalentado, for the hangover.

In Mexico they even have 3am food before the live band XD (chilaquiles)

I’m chilean, and our wedding receptions usually end at around 5ish am. Ending anything earlier than that is considered bad form xD But even that is sort of tame. My grandparents told us (grandchildren) that their wedding reception lasted for 3 whole DAYS. Livestock was specially brought in (and butchered) for the barbecue (both cows and pigs. Plural both)

Most weddings i have assisted were around those numbers you said, but i have also went to the wedding of the daughter of family friends... who i didn't even knew, so there're extreme cases. The Sitting arrangement *is* a thing, still no one stops you from taking your plate, your chair and move to another table (preferible away from the kids table you get assigned because people forget you already finished university). And again, never been on a party that went up for 11 AM, but several of the 15 years parties i went kept going to 9 am, with Pizza + Coffee breakfast. You also must remember that this is a parody video where most of the stuff said is potentiated in aims to make the cultural shock funnier : )

Not some boring ceremonial bs.

Oscar E. The way that venues charge, at least in the part of the U.S. where I live, the $50 to $100 per person IS for the food. That means that on the lower end ($50), you will be paying $10,000 in food alone if you have 200 people there. If you don't use their catering service, they charge a fee that often costs even more when combined with paying for the food separately. Some may have the money and will to invite those distant relatives. I, on the other hand, don't want to pay $50 minimum per stranger just out of some ridiculous customary obligation. Regarding padrinos: no, I have always found that extremely tacky. I am not going to have someone pay for the wedding that I want. Growing up, I was always told that if you want something, you need to work hard and get it for yourself because no one else is going to get it for you. Regarding the returning the favor later: I am the youngest in my family, meaning that no I won't be able to return the favor since everyone is already married.

In many cases they are friends, not family (doesn’t matter if they’re married, you could always give back at their child’s graduation, wedding, etc) But I understand your point. There are cultural differences in American and Latino view regarding spending/sharing. And it’s not a customary ‘obligation’ necessarily . I’ve seen both extremes, some WANT to have a really big party (yeah, even with strangers). Others prefer a more discreet event (20-30 people max). And trust me, you can cut down those cost. Even in the US. You just have to put extra work and don’t rely on the budgets some businesses want to charge you.

Paulo Passr You don't have to dance like a latin pro at the crazy hour, that's the main reason is made for, you just start jumping and dancing like crazy, no choreography at all. The only choreography there is when the people get so hype that spontaneously start to do the "trencito" (little train) dance , which is nothing more than dancing grapping hips from one to another making a big queue walking and dancing around.

Depends. I want the nice wedding for myself instead of family because I know they'll always talk shit. My extended family is absolute garbage so if only my mom dad and sister come that is fine with me. His immediate and extended family can come too. Our budget is 5,000. We expect a guest total (including ourselves) of 50 or less. So do whatever YOU want and will make you happy. Anybody who truly loves you will get over themselves and support you.
