My Jobo CPP2 was purchased in 1988 and last week the agitator motor stopped working. Upon inspection I found the T 1.25 A fuse was blown. I replaced the fuse but the motor still did not work. The problem was a bad rectifier which was replaced with a $14 USD rectifier. Running smoothly now. The only other problem happened in the late 1990s when I had to replace the water pump impeller shaft that corroded into two pieces. For processing the reservoir is filled with pre-heated water so the CPP2 heater only has to maintain the correct water temperature during processing. My darkroom is controlled to a 15-20% humidity and an ambient temperature between 68 to 75 F year round.

Because of the reversing mechanism, not only can you know that it's fine to turn it on at full speed, but it's actually designed to turn on at double that workload, when it switches directions and has to stop from full speed, at full power. I'm surprised they designed it this way, and that it's fine, but that's literally how it is and it wasn't the first thing to break. (throwing it from drive to reverse at freeway speeds is probably involved with why so many people have the motor die)

Don't you just hate it when you loan something out and it comes back broken and missing parts of it? Yes. Once, I loaned out to a former friend a $400 audio mixing board, 2 mic stands and a box full of 3 Shure Unidyne 515SD and a priceless Electro Voice 664 (aka "The Buchanan Hammer"). He in turn let some acquaintance of his borrow all of it. That acquaintance claimed he didn't have it. In short, about $700 of equipment gone. That was 20 years ago.

I think when you rectify an incoming AC supply it just naturally increases in voltage when it becomes DC. I worked with a device that used a 9V AC incoming supply and it ended up +21v by the time it was passed through a set of 1n4001s.
