Lots of people have brought that up so it’s been discussed a ton. Long story short, the general conclusion is that their personalities wouldn’t mesh: Jocko is team/leadership focused while Goggins is individual performance focused. That’s not to criticize Goggins, but it sounds like he and a lot of SEALs didn’t really get along. Plus he’s been interviewed many times already, so Jocko may feels there’s not much left to talk about. Just what I’ve seen though, I could be completely wrong.

This indirect nfluencer leadership style does work well when people have shared goals. What I'm seeing is an upward trend of punitive leadership with accompanying threats -- financial, social, or physical. There seems to be a recognition of divergent goals which is escalating towards aggressive leadership actions.

For learning to begin respect has to be mutual. That means we have to have the shared value of respect. In combat if a leader losses his temper he also lost the respect of his subordinates because we don't make the best decisions when we are under stress and emotions take control.

Competition is lost on many. The value of analysis and assessments before, during and after is often overlooked. Looking at that strategic goal and not assessing progress or your desired effect on the competition will lead to failure all day. Same goes for coming out and just making a statement about current events, why just jump into the fray and lose half of your progress towards the strategic goal? It may make some feel good now, but will not move the goalpost any closer, if fact it will push it further away. You pick your battles based on assessments. I enjoyed the discussion, thanks!

I was thinking about having to tell our kids to clean thier room. I don't have kids yet so forgive me if I am out of line but I would make it an expectation instead of a demand. Then we can check to see if our expectations are being maintained, sustained or needs improvement. This could also signal us too some other underlying cause that we may be able to address and work out.

To Jocko's point about getting recommendations, I have been able to get a letter of recommendation from every workplace I have ever been at. Hiring managers dont like recommendations, they dont read them, they actually will respond negatively if they are there. Maybe its some conditioning or mental gymnastics which says, these folks are gaming the system somehow. BUT, if you are able to put on that resume, achievements, and after all the employee of the week, top salesman of the week, winner winner chicken dinner stuff THEN put in that you have a letter of recommendation from Deli Manager, Sr. Manager, Direct of Marketing, MBA, whoever, they will respond to that and it does put you over the line. They dont want to read your letter of recommendation, thats going in a garbage bin, their job is to check boxes and read the first page of your hopefully 2 page tops resume.

A book you should read and do a podcast on is Milton Rokeach, 1979, Understanding Human Values. He is the same social psychologist that put three schizophrenic patients who thought they were Jesus Christ in the same environment to see if their beliefs would change. I recommend starting with the last chapter and reading the book backward.(ch. 17,16,15,14....etc). Someone realized they were inna race and went fucking yard.

What do you tell someone who is fully aware of these games that mildly intelligent polite society use? For me, knowing full well that I'm being toyed with, I'd much prefer skipping the insulting of my intelligence and move right in to being direct. In my opinion, this is what's primarily wrong with human interaction currently. We all insist on treating each other like we are children in each others classrooms.

Jocko, I met you back in February 2017 when you and Leif gave a talk hosted by Pete Berg at Wild Card West in Los Angeles. After the event I asked you about your thoughts on the gaining popularity and demand of military level firearms training schools offered to civilians. You said it was due to a deficit of leadership by our top officials, that people were feeling anxiety because there was a vacuum of leadership from our nation's leaders. Fast forward to now and you have almost nothing directly to say about January 6th. You are one of the most visible veterans out there and you have nothing to say. In fact, you had some cryptic message drawing comparisons between Orwell's 1984 and big tech's moves. Why is it so hard? General McCrystal and former SEAL team member Chris Fussell didn't seem to have a problem calling it like they saw it? What is the difference? Are you afraid of losing subscribers? Of losing your customer base? Is that leadership? I shook your hand that evening and, without setting an alarm clock I spontaneously woke up the next morning at 4am and got after it. Granted, I'm a wuss and that only lasted 2 weeks, but it was a powerful moment nonetheless. You have a substantial following because people are inspired by you. What happened at our nation's capital shocked the conscience and a simple statement by you could've made a real positive impact but you punted. That's not leadership, that's not taking extreme ownership of your potential to do good. I expected more from you.
@firstnamelastname9444
@firstnamelastname9444 3 жыл бұрын
I believe that Jocko is trying to get his message/leadership lessons to reach as many people as possible, in the hopes that it will lead people to do the right thing. However, if he makes it heavily politicized, then that will turn off a lot of people immediately. So yeah, you could say it would hurt his “customer base” but I think it’s more that he feels that he can be more effective by sharing the (universal and apolitical) principals of extreme ownership and leadership with as many people as possible. Just my thoughts on the matter. I could be wrong.
@dung_nuggets
@dung_nuggets 3 жыл бұрын
@@firstnamelastname9444 I considered that but it just doesn't hold water because it's simply not a political statement. It's a moral one. There is no policy involved in attempting to commit sedition. There is no policy in attempting to murder politicians. There may have been a political motivation for those actions, i.e.they hate Democratic politics, or, they thought there was election fraud. But with the former, there's a political process called voting to deal with that, and the latter was heard in dozens of court filings that were all resoundingly laughed out of court for their speciousness. There are a lot of people who have allowed their moral compasses to be magnetized. Very many of them dwell in Jocko's listenership. General McCrystal and former team member Fussell were able to speak openly on this, why? Because they are not captured by this silly notion that it's political to denounce sedition and attempted murder. They were able to discuss the similarities they saw in the terrorist groups in the Middle East and the domestic terrorists at home. They were simply calling a spade a spade because they are leaders.

@@MM-eo2oz What's garbage about what General McCrystal said?
@dung_nuggets
@dung_nuggets 3 жыл бұрын
@@MM-eo2oz I'm not saying Jocko "has" to do anything. It's a free country and he can obviously do whatever he wants. But for someone who is supposedly content to sit quietly and not wade into politics, he delivered an overtly political statement with his recent reading of Orwell's 1984 and unsubtly drawing comparisons to big tech and the left. Had Jocko delivered a message like General McCrystal and Fussell, he could have reached many more people. Much good could have come of it and it would not have been political to narrowly condemn what happened while leaving any ancillary politics out. But he didn't. He instead tried to spook his followers with the boogeyman. The guy's entitled to make a living, though. Those shirts and soaps and books and teas don't sell themselves...
