One time I randomly sent joe pera an instagram DM telling him about how his show on Adult swim really helped pull me out of a funk and find light in my daily life as a Michigander and he said some very nice things and sent me a free hat. Wear it every day, I never knew I’d find a hero as an adult

Omg. That is so sweet. Joe Pera is one of the most adorable people I’ve ever seen and I mean that solely as a compliment on his character, I respect the hell out of him because even though he’s playing a character most of the time-that character is a reflection of his genuine, warm and loving attributes. I live in a stressful volatile environment and Joe Pera not only calms me and soothes my soul but brings me back from the throes of toxic masculinity. Thank you Joe for creating a space where we can cultivate wholesomeness in this crazy twisted world.

It's both. :) He's a trained comedian who went to a performing arts university. He is doing a caricature of himself: it's real in one sense, but an exaggeration. And it's wonderful. :)

Based on the now hard to find videos I've heard of him speaking what I assume to be in his normal voice, he sounds pretty much exactly the same, but just doesn't talk with the cadence of an 85 year old man like he does in character.

Was honestly expecting Joe to push into his character for the majority of the interview but to see him earnestly speak on his method and motives was really insightful. Obviously he wasn't going to do a bit for an hour and twenty but letting people into his creative process really compounds just how brilliant of an artist he is. Saw him in Dublin this year and it was worth every penny. Hopefully when he comes back we'll have Bluetooth by then.

In 2018, I was going through a giant rough patch. I'd lost my job, I was a year into a bad break up that was finally starting to sink in, and I was developing anxiety that was starting to inhibit me from enjoying life in general. Before Talks With You had premiered proper, I'd found the Talks You To Sleep short on KZfaq and used Joe talking about batting cages as the intro to a mix that I made for myself at the point. Every time I'd listen to that mix, I'd always play the intro to remind myself that I could always find something to lose myself in to find solace, even if it was only for a bit. It helped me get through one of the hardest periods of my life. I ended up meeting Joe later that year and told him how much his comedy and show had done for me that year and even though he only replied with a simple "Thank you, that means a lot.", it was cathartic to have everything come full circle and talk to the man who saved my life that year. Joe, once again, thank you.
