Yo people! Just a few things to note: 1. Something I didn't mention in regards to insulation is damp. Particularly if you plan on actually heating your garage/home gym - it's something you need to think about/consider (or ask somebody with expertise). Didn't want to make the video too long by going down every possible rabbit hole... 2. I've since decided to ditch that treadmill. I think in favour of an assault bike (because I like my cardio short and intense nomsayin), but would be interested to hear any suggestions for that space. 3. There's a sale currently at www.primalstrength.com 4. If you're new here, subscribe. 5. There are chapters if you want to skip around.

I also have a properly old ragged treadmill that I wouldn’t mind replacing or upgrading. My other piece of cardio equipment is the Rogue Echo Bike. As far as short intense cardio it is unrivaled

can't go wrong with a concept2 rower or rogue echo bike. Concept2 probably better because of the small footprint when up right and the ability to do short/long cardio bouts.

For your lack-of-heat problem -- a simple manifold off your existing boiler into a radiator (or two)? Electric radiant panels near your primary workout stations would work too. Radiant heat works by heating objects (like you) rather than the entire volume of air, so they're ideal for turning on when you're working out and then off when you're not.

I'd been subscribed to ur channel and following all ur videos for the past 2 years and my own home gym is inspired by ur's totally! Ur home gym has always been the next level man! Pure madness. I would like to give a small suggestion by adding a reverse back extension bench, where u can do back extension in strengthening ur lower back and u can use it for preacher curl as well!

My home gym is the great value version of yours. I've got old horse mats that are taped together, a 5-30 dumbell tree, a 25 lb kettlebell, a used smith machine cage from golds gym with pullies on the corners and a floor pulley for rows, an adjustable bench with the leg extention attachment and a pull up/dip station from a kids playground. Honestly I mostly just use the free weights and the cage for benching. Been switching back and forth from PPL and upper/lower routines every 6 month or so.

Thanks for this I’ve been looking at upgrading my basic home gym (barbell and 195kg of plates, dumbbell rack, bench, kettle bell set (8-32kg) pull/dip station, weight belt and bands, also jump rope and exercise bike) but I keep overthinking full rack/half rack/smith machine (got a basic squat/bench rack combo) luckily I live in Thailand so no insulation on the large roofed terrace (just a few industrial cafe fans above) I do usually do one upper and lower day at the gym for the extra machines, might make the cash plunge and get a pulley machine and leg extension.

Quality video as ever Joe. I recently bought a Redrow home in the last year, unfortunately it is only a single size single skin garage (obviously we do not operate on the same budget 😂). However, I took major inspiration/design stealing from your first video to create my home gym and it’s been working out great for me. I have a bike, DB rack, fully adjustable bench & a half rack with bumper plates, with some niche weighted vests/belts etc.. as well. I have very limited room left and also a shorter ceiling height of only 2.10m. Would be great to get your thoughts on one major item I could stick in (i.e small enough cable pulley, Leg ext/hamstring curl, calf machine etc…). Also might just have to copy you with insulating the door, garage is getting freezing this time of year

Love the primal gear, Steve was really active on the Facebook groups too during lockdown. I have a similar space to you however my garage door is an up and over electric which scuppers a lot of the height across half of it and we still need to use some for ‘garage’ shit. Next year hopefully going to build some custom storage to expand the space and copy some of your moves!
@JoeDelaneyy
@JoeDelaneyy Жыл бұрын
Yep, even the track that mine runs on still limits where I can put things to an extent. A roller door would be best but looks pretty ugly on the outside. I also bought a shed for storage, but can imagine that's not convenient if you have bikes or something you need to grab and go.

Heat rises so that area above the black sheeting on the ceiling will collect the heat. You could probably just lay some cheap thin wood up there and then some insulation over it, maybe even some old duvets or blankets or something. Might keep the gym a few degrees higher on chilly days. If you have any plumber mates, you could also just put a radiator in there.

Sick. I'm building my home gym at the moment, great inspiration, cheers. I think I'd add just three things: 1. some kind of chest press machine (probably incline, ideally one in which the angle and the grip can be adjusted, unless one runs into the same engineering issues as the leg extension/curl combo), 2. a multigrip cambered bar, which doubles as a multigrip pullup bar too 3. a couple of sturdy, large plyo boxes, not only for jumps-cardio but also for unilateral leg exercises, seal rows (putting the bench on top of them to increase the distance from the floor) and several other things.

Just built a home gym myself. Started off by sealing all the gaps with expanding foam and painting everything black. Damp proofed the floor with a damp proof membrane, picked up some flooring mats and then was onto the equipment. My garage is only a 1 car garage so not as much room to get different machines for each exercise so picked up a MARCY ECLIPSE RS7000 DELUXE SMITH MACHINE HOME GYM WITH BENCH, literally has so much in one machine. Also, got a treadmill but I'm now in need of some dumbbells but obviously they're very pricey so was thinking of buying some adjustable ones, been looking at the Bowflex 1090i but not set on them if anyone could recommend any. Also i picked up an oil filled radiator but it's causing a lot of condensations so I think I need to get a dehumidifier

awesome set up joe -- if you dont really get that much out of the deadlift matt and space -- highly recommend a simple leg press -- would pretty much complete a leg workout session -- i find with a ahome gym -- i have myself a smaller set up -- its very difficult to cover the whole leg routine -- everything else can get covered easily in your own set up but i find myself still going to my local gym at least once a week just to make sure i get my legs fully covered

Nice work, Joe 🎉 Primal Strength stuff is great, and that FB page is a good source of inspiration for home gym owners too (if not necessarily the best for bank balance) 😂 For people that don’t have space for the leg extension or Smith machines, but do have a rack and some kind of jammer arm that can be attached to the rack, what would you recommendation be for the best way to hit leg accessory movements like leg extension, hamstring curl, calf raise etc.
@JoeDelaneyy
@JoeDelaneyy Жыл бұрын
I think leg extension is the most difficult as there isn't really a quad isolation replacement you can do with free-weights. I do some stuff in this video from around the 5 mins 30 mark: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hb6eYMmZ17e1oqs.html& But none of it is particularly comfortable or easy, so I don't know if I would just concentrate on doing a couple of different squat/lunge variations for quads. Calves, you should be able to do raises holding the jammer arms, as they will be more stable than holding a free bar. Single leg DB raises are fine too if you stand on a plate/ramp and hold onto your rack with your free hand. For hams, again an isolation is difficult without a machine. You can do some lying leg curls, lying forwards on an incline bench with a DB between your feet, but again, that's a bit awkward. Although it's not a curl, I rely mainly on RDLs for the hamstring work I do at home.
