@@davidmolnar8251 I got into Beefheart in my teens, and was thrilled decades later when my teenage daughter (independent of me) discovered Beefheart too (via Trout Mask Replica). And she was amazed that I had actually met Don Van Vliet in '78-- at the concert venue, in the lobby, people walking past him unaware that he was standing there as if he were invisible, and I walked up to him, greeted him, and had a short, bizarre, but friendly chit-chat.

@miguelservetus95346 күн бұрын
Are you referring the terms of the inheritance giving control of the trust to two of the four siblings? The other two got 20% but no say in control. So she and Dweezel need permission from the other two to use Franks work. Not really up to the usual definition of deplorable. A person gets to distribute property as they deem fit. It is a business decision. We have no idea why Gail, the mother set it up as she did, but she had the right to do so, and owes us no explanation. Perhaps, she felt that the two would exhibit better business sense and respect his legacy. But who knows. BTW, the trust was reportedly massively in debt greater than the worth
@AnthonyFlack5 күн бұрын
@@miguelservetus9534- apparently so, but the trustees drew a salary from it, while the debt ensured that Moon and Dweezil never received any dividends. Dweezil took particular umbrage at being ordered to PAY the trust for the right to perform his father's music, and the trust also ordered him to change the name of his tour "Zappa plays Zappa", prompting Dweezil to call it the "Dweezil Zappa Plays Whatever the F##K He Wants Tour". Here's what Moon had to say about it - "It's complicated enough to be grieving the loss of a mean mom. And then to find out she was meaner than I could have possibly comprehended ... It's comical, the level of betrayal."
@csnide67025 күн бұрын

I always liked Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. Even more so when he appeared before the PMRC Senate hearing as did Dee Snyder and John Denver to basically and very respectfully tell the PRMC how effed up they were. "It's unclear which popular musicians were invited, but the only ones to show up and tell the government this was none of their business were Zappa, Snider, and Denver." - Business Insider. They made a big mistake. Zappa and Snyder mopped the floor with them. Sure the PRMC got the warning labels they wanted, only to have that backfire as fans saw the "warning" label as incentive to purchase material the suits said were dirty. The artists didn't mind at all, all the way to the bank.

She frames it interestingly. No one is ever fully honest, though. Nobody wants that. The truth is that he was bipolar, a total douchebag, and his _drive_ was his need for approval and affirmation from people he did not respect, and whom he loathed. He loathed himself, too, for needing it. But all of that comes with being someone who produces content for approval and affirmation. If they were healthy, sane, contented people, they wouldn't have the drive to do anything. Lol, if everyone became a well-adjusted, self-contained human being overnight, the economy would crumble. He had so many artistic high-water marks and we can thank a discipline that doesn't always come paired with that hellish need, but when it does and there's some kind of craft, we get good stuff. But he was still a douchebag and you wouldn't want to spend too much time around him, in reality. I don't believe in heroes or hero worship. Give up sentimentality and join the competent. There's plenty of stuff left to love, including Zappa's music. You don't have to stop appreciating the music just because you recognize he was an ass.
@BillyFoppiano8 күн бұрын
Kind of a mean assesment. No one is perfect, bro, but II think you are way too harsh. I like stuff with rough edges, BUT you, sir are a douchbag yer own sef.
