Johannesburg Mountain ~ Northeast Buttress ~ September 5, 2020

Reed, Kyle and I climbed the famed NE Buttress of Johannesburg this week. Rising nearly a vertical mile from its base, the north face of Johannesburg is one of the more impressive faces in the North Cascades. We are stoked to have now climbed it. It took us 12 hours to make it from our cars to the summit where we stayed the night. It then took us 10 hours to descend the heinous east ridge and hike back out to the cars via Cascade Pass.

Very nice!! Good work. I've climbed Forbidden 3 times, Sahale twice, Torment once, and Eldorado (W Arete) once, and also the Triplets (solo), so I have stared at J-berg many times from 1975 to 1990. Never climbed it though.

Looks like the dude wearing the Atlas gloves got his money's worth out of that helmet there's a pretty gnarly dent in it s top of it lol nice climb tho.

Was looking at this from my tent on Eldorado this weekend . Very Jelly awesome job gentleman ! Pretty sure I saw your guys lights at the top.

That kind of climbing scares me more than Hannold soloing El Cap. Steep grassy slopes, not steep enough for a rope but steep enough if you slip you start falling and can't stop yourself, yikes! 😨

A dude I spoke to on top of El Dorado a few weeks ago told me a buddy of his did this a couple years ago, and his buddy said that he hopes that no one he loves ever climbs that mountain

Hey, what rope(s) do you primarily use for climbing and rappelling? I have a pretty heavy 60m rope and looking at some options like half, or all in one.
