What I really miss about John's era is his tone. His tone had character and not just that typical mid scooped metal tone we got ever after.

This is always what I say when someone tries to say the current line up is the best Danzig line up. Sure they look like they're having a lot of fun, but they can't replicate the chemistry of the original line up. Not only is JC's tone unmistakable, but his technique is so good that you can hear every note cut through when he's playing giant chords. A lot of the power from those first four records comes from his technique. There is no way the current line up could pull off the dynamics of a song like Anything off of the third record.
@TheFriendlyMen
@TheFriendlyMen 2 жыл бұрын
I completely agree 100% with you on that one. Tommy cannot even duplicate John's sound even with an electric guitar. When John played " Devils Plaything" it sounded like the actual recording which to me I have not heard in 25 years after he left.

@@TheFriendlyMen I love hearing bootlegs of early Danzig shows, JC would totally manhandle the guitar parts when they played Samhain songs. It's a bummer that Glenn never gave those guys the credit for their arrangement contributions to the songs. This interview confirms something I always thought, Glenn would come up with the skeleton of the song and JC would add more depth with his technical capabilities. I'm glad he's putting himself out there more, it would be nice to see him playing in a band again.

John Christ is one of the most underappreciated guitarists of the late 80's/early 90's. Those first three Danzig albums are among to most perfect three consecutive efforts by any rock/metal band ever.

Hello John! What can I say? Without you Danzig (the band) wouldn't have been nearly as good as you were. You had the skill to bring the best out of Glenn's melodies, you are a tremendous guitar player and you have a great sense of style. I'll never forget the day I saw you play at Provinssirock festival in Finland in the summer of 1995. The sudden thunderstorm that came out of nowhere when you started to play and was gone when you finished. :D One of the best days in my life. Danzig's first is my all time favourite hard rock / metal album. I love the very unique, punchy Marshall sound on that one. I love how raw the whole thing is. So many memories from this guy. I remember me and my bro Sean Hill sitting in his bedroom trying to figure out some of the songs on 1-2-3 and he had little to no musical education, except Misfits songs. I got some lessons and figured out a bunch for me but then almost immediately got into guitar player music and things like Allan Holdsworth. But I still love all John's guitar work. That Angel Heart bit on its own was exclusive info that I never heard or read in years of interviews, so you should be happy you got some new bits of info in here. Would be awesome to hear him play Anything and Girl next time. The solo in Anything as well. I'd really like to hear John describe the songwriting process more, song by song on those early albums. @@TheFriendlyMen I agree with you on Angel Heart. Never cared much for it. Someone uploaded a video of Glenn's answering machine back in the late 80s and it had music from Near Dark. Now that's an awesome movie.

I managed to see Danzig three times with the original line up. I live in Vancouver Canada. We drove down to Seattle to see them at the Moore then came back to Vancouver for the show the following night. Chuck was a local boy. He hung out for a bit after the show and we met the rest of the guys. The shows were bad ass. Glad to see John is doing well and still playing. Those are some really great memories. Thanks for this guys 🤘❤

If it ain't broke, don't fix it..If that line up stuck together by now they would have been legendary..Black Sabbath level..John was the Tony Iommi of the modern era. His riffs are that good. I was lucky to see them several times. Ran into John at the Whisky a gogo one night. We hung at talked for several hours. I really liked him..Awesome guy all around..Glenn was very cool when meeting after a show. Some people say things about him, but he was totally cool to me..Hope they reunite..One of the best!

John is an awesome guy. Always has been. I met him years ago. When Danzig toured for How the Gods Kill. They played a small club venue in Florida and before the show John came out to the parking lot where a few guys he knew were smoking weed in a van. Sounds sleezy but it's true lol. There were a ton of fans lined up still waiting to get in as the opening band had already started playing. . Noone else saw him, but we were out in the back corner of the lot and me and my 2 friends all went over very calmly and got to meet him. We were only 15-16 so he was cool with us. Chatted for about 5 minutes and we left. It was so awesome because the tons of people in line all had no clue he was out there. To this day people still don't believe the story lol. We didn't all have cell phones and cameras back then. I saw them play 2 other times after that, but I never forgot that first show. Needless to say they about brought the house down that night with the way Chuck beat the shit out of the drums. That original line up truly was one of the best ever.

@@TheFriendlyMen Yeah man, just made kids like us at the time realize he was just a normal dude like anyone else. We kind of crashed their private party and he couldn't have been any cooler. Then we went inside and saw Genitorturers play before Danzig came on stage. The club was small and they were loud af. My ears must have rang for 2 days afterwards lol. To this day one of the best shows I ever went to.
