Thank you so much. I started changing the cable on my Z355 without doing any reading, everything was going smooth until I got to that cable bracket. I completely got stucked there. Since Im a mechanic, I probably studied it for about 45 minutes but was not able to figure it out. I was starting to get frustrated and thats when I decided to look at KZfaq and found your video. Excellent info sir.

Holy man…I followed your instructions and got her done fairly smoothly. I made one exception. I only took the nuts off the lifting handle side. I was able to then use a lifting bar and get the amount of gap needed to pull out the cable bracket. So I was done in reasonable time and ready to mow.

Discovered my cable was broke this morning and found your video I watch your videos all the time but hadn't seen this one. It saved me allot of headache I snapped a pic of the part number you showed went to my John Deere dealer about 5 miles away showed them the part number and they had 3 in stock for 49.71 plus tax so that was a good surprise and after following your tips I had it changed in about an hour not counting putting the deck and all back on but the cable was not bad at all since I had good instructions. Also my new cable had the same ends like my old one but my old one had the thick eyes like the new cable. I remembered the one you did had different size eyes so some I guess have thicker and some thinner. Anyway thanks for the good direction and tips and God bless you.

Holy cow what a job that is. Must be John Deere has hired some automotive engineers to figure out the most difficult way to fix things. Now I know for sure why I did not buy John Deere. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for video, like others, I could not figure out how to remove the plate piece. This was on a 325 model, had to remove seat spring brackets too.

was it difficult snaking it through? I just put mine under the seat spring and drape it across like the video. Was hard enough pulling out out of that channel to begin with.

The cable can be easily routed as original by lifting the gas tank after removing a parking break cable bracket. The parking break cable bracket with two torque screws is all that prevents removing the gas tank.

Richie mower repair Well leave it to JD to design a mess like that.. I been in the mower repair for 15 years and changed a lot of cable but this one take the Cake. Thanks you for the tip on the sub base lift. I will never do this job again.

Hi All. You’re missing the obvious solution. I’ve broken the cables a few times and I simply pull out the broken cable and push a 3mm galv wire rope through. Make loop at lever end using a duplex clamp and at the other end run through deck fitting and use another clamp as a cable stop. No disassembly, less than 10 bucks from any hardware store. It’s a bit fiddly to get cable out far end if there are any loose wire strands but you’ll get there.

It would have been easier to follow had you cleaned up all the dirt and grass first so we had a clear view. Other wise great information.

Oh brother My cable broke today This may be beyond my capability I might just rig a chain and bolt to hold deck up in a level position, I won’t be able to raise or lower deck, but I mow at the same level anyway Geesh

Great video, I'm trying to to get around to kind of follow your footsteps and start a small engine repair and lawn care service. I currently just buy cheap/free small engine equipment and fix, then sell mainly a weekend thing at the moment. Michigan does not have a license for lawn care or small engine repair so I'm kind of lost at the moment. I really want to get to a point where I can solely do this. What certifications should I get and from where? How do I become a certified briggs/Honda/etc. Repair person?

Eetc cert will open doors for working at a dealership, and will teach alot of basics. To get certified in specific brands, u will hav to take their tests. Gardner distributors does kohler, theyre also a parts distributor fir ALOT of brands. Power distributors is for briggs and stratton. Same as well for parts. Kawasaki, yamaha, honda is all dealer specific. I dont mess with those much. If i need those parts i juat order em. As far as parts for ur shop. Power distributors, gardner distributors are good. They also require a business license. U might hav to get under the same blanket as auto repair or service related company. Aftermarket distributors are rotarycorp, stens, RBI, .

Nice! I had this 3/4 tore down and had to wait to get my part. I could see what was going to a problem and you did great on pointing it out. Thanks for mentioning the PIN and thickness of the two eyes on the cable.
