Ok so we're now picking up the Invigor canola and can clearly see the difference between the two windrow - (swath) the swathers laid down... Interesting to see.

Here's a suggestion on how to handle canola "piles". Switch your pickup to manual mode, slow it right down, gently pick up the pile. The pickup teeth will hold the pile back while the table auger fingers, turning at regular speed, tear the pile apart into smaller chunks. Works for me 80 to 90% of the time to avoid plugging the feederhouse.

Reminds me of baling hay with a New Holland baler with a Wisconsin engine, back about 1960. When the windrow had a big slug of hay, you had to slow down and gradually work forward so that you didn't kill the engine. I can still hear that engine working for all it was worth. Those were the days!

Good to see everything is moving along well and you are getting a good harvest. Hard work and effort payed off. Mike, I have a question. I am hoping that once the harvest is over, could you please break down exactly how a combine works. What goes on in a combine that allows the machine to suck up all the crop, separate the straw from the bean and pods from the seeds. To me, it is just a marvel of engineering. Maybe once us non farmers understand how exactly the machine works, we can better understand the numbers you are pointing out on the dash. As always, thanks for your educational vids. Much respect from north eastern Ontario.

I talked to an Iowa grain farmer who had a Case IH 12 row corn head when you had to have it custom built by a company in Nebraska. Case was not building a 12 row head at that time. He had a man hired to run a grain cart. He said I had a full hopper and the man was out of the tractor picking up downed ears at the end of the field and I couldn’t run the combine. He said I had to explain to him I had more to lose by not keeping the combine running than he could save me by picking up the downed ears.

Big stock piles best to go over them figured that out years ago. I remember when the wind blew my brothers flax into big piles and we had to put it all through found out the melrow pickups with the steel teeth worked the best and the header reverser on the Massey 760 was a great asset. The piles were the size of two pickups. Would like to see you demo a FD 250 macdon header and a New Holland combine compared with the John Deer

Then 9570, 9670, 9770, 9870, then S690, S790. The largest we got was 5 S690’s with about 18,000 Acres then my Cousin came down with Bone Cancer, it wasn’t a good time.

John Deere has offered green MacDon swather units for years. And before that they sold MacDons as the "Premier" brand name. Deere's own line of swather tractors are very popular with hay farmers, more so than MacDon. So Deere is simply covering all their bases. They offer a grain header (main by Honeybee) for their D450 swather tractors because sometimes a guy just wants one machine for both hay and grain, even if the MacDon is a much better grain and canola swather.
