There are also some grease points on the deck and the mechanism that moves the deck up and down. Not sure if there are others.. I'll have to check the manual. Good find on the one underneath in the middle. I have the X350 so its pretty much same. One thing I did different when changing oil is I ran the tractor to warm up oil first so it was thin and warm and drained easily. Opening the fill plug while its draining makes the flow so much better too!

From the JD owners manual, changing engine oil: "IMPORTANT: Do not overfill. Some residual oil could remain in engine after draining. Overfilling can cause smoking, hard starting, fouling of spark plug, and oil saturation of air filter. Add oil slowly and stop to check oil level every few ounces to avoid overfilling. Add oil no higher than FULL mark on dipstick. Do not overfill." > X300, X304 and X310: Begin with approximately 1.7 L (1.8 qt). > X320, X324 and X360: Begin with approximately 2.1 L (2.2 qt).

Larry have you cleaned out the gas tank on the x300? I think I can remove it, but there's a foam piece the fuel lines and seat wiring run through, and the wiring housing is fused to the foam. Any advice? We've had it to 3 mechanics because it runs for 20 minutes and dies. It can sit and idle for an hour, but running it dies. Had everything but the tank and main lines checked. It's a closed system - no vented cap. I'm thinking it's debris in the tank.
@LSatch4 жыл бұрын
Michèle Jedlicka please keep in mind that I’m no mechanic. I had a very similar experience. Took 5-6 months of frustration and lots of unneeded spent money. They tried everything. Took it to a different place and they nailed it in minutes. It was a small needle type valve in the carburetor. It would idle fine. Then when you move the valve giggles out of place. It’s a $10.00 part. After I had the carburetor rebuilt I’ve had no problems for a couple of years now. (Knock on wood). Before I’d remove the gas tank I’d have the carburetor rebuilt. Good luck, I feel your pain. Larry

All John Deere vinyl seats crack over time doesn't matter if its a farm tractor or lawn tractor it,s a fact of life just have to get used to.
@mommabee37934 жыл бұрын
@@sodbuster518able To clarify ... the crack in the seat happened less than 3 months after we purchased the tractor. Never subjected to UV sunlight, used once a week and stored in an insulated dry garage. The replacement seat has lasted far longer (410 hrs) than the first one but does show crease lines in the exact same places as the original ... and I agree it is a fact of life that seats can fail like this. So, if I purchase a new sofa/car/truck and the seat comes apart before it is 3 months old I have to accept that "It is what it is?" and not warn other buyers to beware? I am positive that if you bought a new car/truck you would be at the dealership the very next day to demand satisfaction ... stay smart, stay safe.

Pro Tip: to determine which engine is under the hood of your X300, open the hood and look at it! JD did not use a “bazillion” types of motors in the x300.... merely one engine in each x300 generation: ‘06-‘10 had the Kawasaki FH491V... ‘11-15 uses the FS541V ... also, always run the engine to warm the oil before draining, helps to suspend contaminants/warm oil drains more thoroughly

This riding mower cannot discharge the grass properly because its outlet is too small and the fan is not efficient. One solution is to mow your lawn every 3 days (2 days in the spring) in order to mow a very small amount of grass. If you wait one week, the grass outlet will be blocked all the time. Why on earth are you adding Stabil when you are going to use the tractor? Makes zero sense... Stabil would be for seasonal storage, and even then you’re better off running the tank dry (with a smidge of 2cycle oil ) / draining the carb bowl instead of leaving fuel in the machine anyway... if you’re looking for a fuel treatment during the mowing season, add a tiny bit of Seafoam with every tank...
@LSatch3 жыл бұрын
Stabil is what my mower mechanic told me to use after he replace all the gaskets in the carburetor from using gasoline with ethanol in it. Thanks for the feedback.
@kenthompson373011 ай бұрын
I know this is an old KZfaq but I’m a new owner. Sta-bil has (at least) two different products. One is for long term storage or your gas, and one is an ethanol fighter. So, if you can’t get ethanol-free gas, you know what product to use. I have to drive a minimum of about 20 miles, each way, to get gas free of corn juice. So I fill up about ten cans at a time. I add Sta-bil Storage to the cans before I head to the gas station.
