My husband was able to replace the drive belt after it had shredded off of our John Deere X590 lawn tractor thanks to your video. He said what especially helped was how you described getting the belt on the tracks. Due to the fact that the belt was not on the tractor prior to replacing it and the owners manual had absolutely no instructions on how to change the belt your guidance was tremendously valuable and appreciated. Thank You!

Wonderful video! Thank you so much! The dealership has always changed the belts for me before on my 2010 X500. Since I've recently retired I thought I would give it the college try!. Excellent step by step video. The brake drum tool worked great! Thank you again!

Thanks! Somehow a stick managed to dislodge the spring on the idler pulley and belt came off. It was not obvious to me the proper path of the belt through the pulleys and where the spring attached, so this really saved me!

Use a piece of string or twine to put spring on. If you do not have a spring puller or a brake drum tool. String or Twine is easier. Great video!

Great video. Thanks! I'm about to swap out the belt on my X584. I won't have to remove the steering arms since this machine has power steering, but all the other steps you detail should be relevant.

@@LonnieJohnson1 Ha! it turned out a little more difficult than expected. Removing the old belt was no big deal. It was pretty worn and stretched. With the rear steering linkage of the x584 in the way, getting the new belt on was a bit of a challenge. Once i realized the fan blades on top of the tranny are soft plastic and won't break , I used a flat blade screw driver to poke in the couple spots there was room to maneuver, and walked the belt onto the pulley. I also didn't have that slick brake pad tool you used for pulling the spring back onto the bushing,, but had no trouble fashioning a hook tool that worked ok. Thanks again.

I don't think I would have gotten the new belt on without this video, THANKS!!! Now that it's on and working I see slop in the belt and is barely brushing up against the frame as it flutters. Wondering if the spring lost tension...
@LonnieJohnson13 жыл бұрын
The tension spring could be weak. Did you get the original V-Belt? Because they fit tighter.

Wonderful tutorial, the job is not too bad with the right intel. Have to get machine up in air with ramps, good jack. 24mm socket is a big one. Not too sure about part # for pulley as nothing comes up with AUC 11241?

Very nice video. Helped me change out a melted tensioner pulley. So here is something I discovered that might help other X-570 owners that have a melted drive pulley. I have a 54 inch deck and I noticed a METAL pulley on the deck that was the same size in every dimension, outer/inner diameter , bearing, bolt size, as the plastic one so I tried it in the drive position and it worked great. I had to hammer out the center boss from the bearing of the plastic pulley and tap it into the new metal pulley. Then just put it on like the plastic one. The Pulley JD part no. is TCA 17146. Hope this helps fix the melting plastic pulley problem.

I just put a new belt on and I had a lot more issues than you did. After I got the pulleys installed and the belt through them, I put the front of the belt on and then tried to do the rear. That would not work on my X500 either because of the belt length or differences in the pulley sizes. The only way it would allow me to put the new belt on was to go to the rear pulley first put the belt over the fan and rear pulley down on the pulley shaft. Then I could install the front pulley and then the rear pulley up on the pulley. The belt was not long enough to go over the fan blades if the front pulley was on.
@LonnieJohnson111 ай бұрын
Did you drop the front pulley?

How do you get the old belt out around the steering column? I followed everything you did, but can’t get it around the column to pull it all the way out in one piece.

Really appreciate the effort you went to so we could see clearly. I found a chewed up piece of plastic and your video helped me to quickly identify it as a tensioner pulley. Until I saw that I was thinking ... here we go $$$. Thanks from Australia Cheers

Just did this on my X570 last week. Very disappointed that Deere discontinued the steel idler pulley and now only offers the nylon one. The original lasted 500 hours before the bushing started to go bad (along with the belt)...I'll be surprised if the new idler lasts that long. Not sure if you mentioned it in the video, but how many hours are on your X570?
@LonnieJohnson13 жыл бұрын
The plastic will melt from the heat over time.

To LonnieJohnson1: Thanks for taking the time to make this video. It is appreciated. Just found out myself that this idler pulley went bad on my x570. Was quite surprised, and angry, when I found out the thing is made of plastic. So in John Deeres infinite wisdom, they used to make a steel idler pulley and now they only offer the plastic one?!?!? Now I'm passed surprise/angry and now am full blown pissed.

This is a helpful video folks . However a word of caution if you are elderly and cannot do heavy or involved repair work. The local Deere dealer where I bought my X570 just quoted me to do the 200 hour service , changing the tranny fluid and drive belt, close to $1000.00 & pickup and delivery from 9 miles away was $150.00. I would say this model tractor might be a little expensive to own
