Just used your video to replace my own X300 belt. This was so helpful! You are an inspiration in overcoming with a "can do" attitude. Just 6 months ago a shop replaced this belt with cheap, inferior one and charged me $400. Your video helped me to practice "fool me once..." Thank you!

Removing the steering arms was a life saver , on my X324, there was also a rod that went between the break pedal and the tension idler that had to be removed at the idler bracket that wasn’t on yours. My belt was slipping off after replacement still when I pressed the brake, found that one of the transmission cooling fan blades was bent and when I put on the brake , I blade got between the belt and the rear pulley and with the tension off the belt, that was enough to have the belt pop off every time I hit the brake. Heated the plastic and bent the blade back, running good now.

Thanks for the video, helped me fix my X350. The belt came off and took the tension spring out. The force must’ve rotated the tensioner pulleys. Your video was the best I could find to show the proper routing and how to reattach the spring.

Thank you so much for making this video! I knew absolutely nothing about the drive belt system on my John Deere 330 tractor. The tensioner had spun completely around 180° and I didn’t have a clue that it was backwards until I stood the tractor straight up and saw your video.

I've done the mow deck removal/install before but never the transmission belt. I was unsure of how to proceed but your excellent video saved the day (well, at least the cost of taking it to the service center, which is pretty much the same thing LOL). My belt didn't break, but popped off during a mowing session. I could tell the belt was in good shape. What would have wrecked me without your video, was the center two pulley arrangement. The pulleys were fine, but the entire "carriage" had flipped around when he belt popped off. Without knowing the correct orientation I would have been cooked. Your video made the entire process as painless as possible. Thank you!!!

Greatd video, no BS and exactly what you need to see to be able to do the job. It's always a good laugh when the video starts with the person in it saying "we're going to show you how to............ " Then one of the first things said immediately following that is always "we've never done this before". Haha, however this was a good one. Explains tooling sizes needed and gives you all the info and a visual demo on how to swap pulleys, drive belts, etc. Kudos!

My X300 started making a huge grinding noise while cutting. I stopped it and had to push it to the garage (after pulling the rod). Not sure why it did this but I felt the transmission belt was loose. I figured it popped off the tensioner pulley. After I watched your video, now I know what is the problem. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow. I don't have the time, expertise or tools to do it myself. Thank you for doing the video.

Thank you. I just completed this... some helpful tips.. #1 If youre standing up the mower like in this video, make sure you dont have too much gas in the tank..... Some leaked out on me. #2 dont leave the mower upright over night (like i did) oil will leak out of the fill hole.. Other than that the video was spot on and gave me the confidence to try it on my own.

Something is wrong. I cannot tell you what it is without seeing the machine but it isn’t correct. The belt should never contact belt guides while it is in the running position. Guides are either incorrectly installed or the belt may not be correct. I would double check your belt with your model. I do not recommend using aftermarket belts.

I have a JohnDeere S240 2015 and I can’t get the front pulley off to replace the Drive belt. When attempting to remove the clutch/pulley the crank turns with the bolt. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue? I took the fly wheel course ver off and put a wrench on the top bolt, but all that did was loosen the top bolt.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, I have heard many ways to get the bolt off but I use air or electric impacts. The easiest way would be to borrow a electric impact. If you can not borrow one then if you have a pipe wench? use it on the pulley shaft but you need to be careful, unless you have an electric PTO and that will not work. You can try and put a strap around the flywheel and hold it, the way a oil filter strap wrench works. I have even heard of putting string inside the cylinder (take out spark plug), enough where it will fill up inside the cylinder and then the piston will not be able to compress. I would highly recommend borrowing one if you can. Some Autozones will let you borrow them but that would be depending if you live in a area that has the Autozone chain.

@@JohnsonsSmallEngines thank you for your quick response. I “think” I have an Electric PTO, so I’m thinking the a pipe wrench might not be good (or would it?). I was using an electric drill (not an impact driver). To be honest, does that make a difference?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Жыл бұрын
If you have a electric PTO, the pipe wrench will not work. There is a big difference from the electric drill and the electric impact. The easiest way to get it off is by a air impact or electric impact.

There are no video's on a X390, X394, X580, X584 & X 590 with hydraulic steering and lift on how to replace this drive belt. There are thousands of these tractors out there. Maybe you can make a video on one of these machines?

In my opinion, I think most people that have those bigger machines take them to a John Deere dealership. That is why you don’t see videos on those machines. I do not work on anything bigger than an X350. I take that back I have worked on an X390 and an X 500 series but no videos on them and most likely will not as I have downsized since my flooding issues back in 2021.
