John strikes me as the type of guy that I would be life long friends with but he and I would have constant "Tiff's" with one another over things like exactly what he described with Flea. Like, "what the fuck do you mean you're not willing to play anything even remotely funky or bluesy on this ENTIRE album? You realize there are four other people in this band right? It's the John show I guess?" Then, later I would realize how amazing his songs were and how shit mine were and apologize and hug it out. 😂

Can't wait to hear a new album from the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2021! Even though i love their last record with Josh Klinghoffer! It was time to bring back John to the band! Bring back the dynamic of the foursome! Great to see them in the UK at a festival never you! Maybe at Glastonbury one day! After all the Foo Fighters have played there! No reason to think that they can't play there! After all they are just as much as legends as they are! If not more so! Maybe live in 2022 in the UK! Peter from Southport

@LowLinK he does know what he's talking about. when he says "european" he means more melodic indie rock/pop like the Smiths. when he says "blues/funk" he means more of the old school rock and funk stuff. just because he's a huge fan of Hendrix doesn't mean he's constantly into the same exact sound all the time. like he said, his tase changes and he's more into certain things at certain times. he still appreciates the different music, but that doesn't mean he will always be interested in that sound. he might like Hendrix but not want to sound like that all the time. just because you don't understand what he's talking about doesn't mean he's a jackass. I wouldn't underestimate John's influence on their sound. according to Jack Sherman (former RHCP guitarist) he spoke with one of their managers (or someone else involved in the band) and they said that John's output was so overwhelming that it made the rest of the band seem like his "side men." I don't know how true that is, but it's something to think about.

@LowLinK I mean, it’s pretty well documented that Mothers Milk, BSSM, Californication, and Stadium Arcadium we’re mostly influenced by John with a significant input from Flea, while By the Way was pretty much all John and the three albums done without John were mostly Flea with little input from Dave Navarro and Josh, respectively. It seems to me the only times Flea was the main creative force was when John wasn’t there, and it seems to me that most of their best albums (in my opinion By the Way, Californication, and Stadium Arcadium (in that order)) were mainly inspired by John. Not saying the other albums aren’t good or enjoyable, I love me some One Hot Minute too, and I’m not saying Flea’s contributions to those albums with John aren’t valuable at all, or that the music would be just as good I thought Flea there to add to and interpret John’s music, but I think it’s pretty clear that John is the main source of the majority of what I personally consider to be their best music. I don’t have any false belief that John is back to stay seeing as he’s quit two times already, and I don’t think the band would at all be able to continue without Flea as he is a major musical force in the band, I’m just saying I think John’s musical contributions have been more notable and superior IN MY OPINION.
@pablopower6297
@pablopower6297 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheWonderfulBlake well I have to disagree but for a different reason. I believe it's not one or the other but the combination of both of them that make those albums you mentioned so good. In fact they often say this in interviews that it's the chemistry between both of them that produces such good results. If you look at john fruciantes best solo albums, the Empyrean, Shadows collide with people, To record water for only 10 days; They are good records, but mainly because of their experimental qualities and interesting sound scapes. In my opinion the song writing is not as consistently good as the best rhcp records where the musicality is more dynamic, the instrumental melodies are always so well thought out and constructed . And most critiques would agree. I'm in no way trying to discredit john fruciantes solo work. I think its brilliant and if anything under rated. I just donr put the song writing on the same level as rhcp with john records tho. The way I see i see it, flea is the architect and john is more the creative/ experimental genius. I think both of them combined is what produces the best results and their importance is equal.

@@pablopower6297 okay that's a fair point, I really don't mean to put flea down at all, he is clearly an amazing bassist and I couldn't play the bass anywhere near as good as him, so I have no right to criticize. I'm just saying I think John has a significant affect on the grade of the content they make. Flea is an incredible musician regardless, I'm not in any way trying to put him down in terms of his skill. He would maybe be my favorite bassist of all time (I never thought too detailed about my favorite bassist lol); but even if he's not number 1, he's definitively at least in my top 5, so I don't mean to discount his skill or his contributions to the music. He is an amazing musician.

I think each album has its own unique style - By The Way is still their most popular album + singles here in the UK - for me personally just depends what mood I'm in, BTW is definitely the most melodic and smooth, it has its own special place in their discography

@@callumsmart9359 Yeah the U.K. was obsessed with this album. John has huge influences from the UK so there was deffo some interplay. I don’t see how people don’t like it, but to each their own.

By the Way is a great summer time album. Cruising with the top down on a hot summer day blasting that is awesome.

I did not really like By the Way. Kiedis super soft singing just did not cut it. Californication hat a great mix of energy, metal, funk and melody. BTW is mainly pop. Pleasant radio tunes...

its softer overall for sure but the level of artistry in that album is crazy under appreciated.. and it isn't pop lol... although not too far from it

By The Way is just John's solo work at the time bleeding into the band sound despite being much less experimental sonically. If you listen to John's early to mid 2000s solo albums like Curtains and Shadows Collide with People, they're all drawing the same inspiration as BTW

@@LinkMAK. John's solo work is diverse and a huge rabbit hole to delve into, in no particular order I would say the most essential ones are : 1. Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-shirt: This is his first album recorded around Blood Sugar Sex Magik era, when he first quit the band. its extremely lofi and experimental. You probably will not be able to sit through it on the first round, but there are some gems in there if you can get past the lofi aethetic, Also note that this album was John's response to the fame that he got from RHCP's newfound success 2. Shadows Collide With People : John released 4 or 5 albums in 2004 while also constantly touring in support of By The Way. This is musically as close to pop as he ever got. Some of the songs here are my favourite songs of all time like Carvel and Omission. But the albums sometimes feels a bit too long with around 20 tracks. Might alse be the first collab he did with Josh Klinghoffer. Production is the exact opposite of his first album with layers and layers of synths, vocals and guitars 3. Curtains : This one was released in the next year, 2005. Much shorter than Shadows Collide and much more striped down arrangement with a couple of guitar solos played by Omar Rodriguez Lopez of The Mars Volta 4. The Empyrean : This one came out when John left RHCP the second time after Stadium Arcadium (but it wasn't announced yet that he had left). IMO his best one, this has traces of psychedelic rock and prog rock. Flea and Klinghoffer play in multiple tracks and there are tons of amazing guitar solos. Its also the last 'guitar album; John made 5. After the Empyrean, John has dabbled in electronica which is sometimes very left of centre and experimental, Enclosure seems to be the one that's most listener friendly for his guitar music fans since the arrangements are more straightforward than his other stuff.

@@lalfakzualahnamte2021 thanks man. I seriously appreciate the effort you put into this response and I'm gonna check out all of it.. I got through half of the first album recently.. pretty wild.. you can really feel the condition of John's life at the time through the music.. I look forward to listening to the stuff he put out around the time BTW was released.

Horrible fucking album. Would rather listen to One Hot Minute any day, frankly.

I like By the Way, but One Hot Minute was just as good in its own way - possibly better. It's a tad subjective, like apples and oranges, but I totally see your point.
