John Gotti's [ Countermove ]

When John Gotti realized Chin Gigante and the Lucchese family was targeting him he needed a countermove. Most people figured his reaction would be a dangerous game of tit-for-tat. However, Gotti chooses a more strategic method.

Ironically, Chin's boss, Vito Genovese, sent Chin to hit the boss at the time, Frank Costello, who survived. So much for the rule that you can't kill a boss.

This is what I came to comment. Lmao Chin is as much a hypocrite as all of them. The only reason he wanted to make an example of Gotti is because he didn’t want someone thinking they could do the same to him.

The Chin obviously ran his family better and more strategically. However, I could assure you back then in the late 80’s, early 90’s when John Gotti was the boss of the Gambino Family no one including the Chin w/ the Luccheses backing his play wanted a war w/ Gotti & the Gambinos because they were an absolute powerhouse back then. They had roughly 21 captains back then and every one of those crews not only were earning money, but every crew had atleast a couple killers.

Jimmy Brown and Danny Marino, both Gambino Caporegimes were moles for The Chin at the time. They strongly disliked how John, DeCicco, & Sammy took over The Family the way they did… If things went the way Chin wanted, it’s hard to believe that JB wouldn’t be the boss of The Gambino Family, being a long time Cap and strong earner with a lot of respect in the Family.

Here’s my theory!! Please don’t be offended it’s just my own personal theory and consider the only information I have is what I read about and movies… I believe Gotti and Sammy had strong backings by several captains in their own family, especially the Cherry Hill Gambinos John&Joe.. when Frankie Deccico told Sammy he would kill John if he didn’t run things right Sammy took that statement to John and they decided to have Deccico killed. Frankie was well liked and respected so they wanted the bombing to point in the direction of the Chin, and rally the whole Gambino family against the Genovese. The Chin soon realized Gotti and Sammy not only had balls but are extremely savvy as well! The Luchases were having an inner family power struggle so it was perfect timing for the Chin to help straighten out their situation and team up with them. Gotti and the Chin were only doing what any other mob boss would do in their situation of running 2 of the largest and powerful cosa nostra families in America. But in the end it would prove to be their demise. Because they weren’t able to come together and make peace, life in prison would soon be their destiny.. And here’s the kicker: when tides start to shift there’s a new momentum starting to emerge from within. Your own family members will sit back and watch you burn…. Greed Treachery

Maybe Gigante had at the time already dementia on top of being a psychotic for decades. I say that because if I remember well, he is the one who made a murder attempt on his own family boss, Frank Costello. He missed that hit ordered by Genovese. Vito couldn't really wait any longer to fill the still healthy old man top position. We all have short memory when money and ego are at play:) Good video with infos I didn't know. Tks you

On one of Sammys videos he stated that John had told him to go on the lamb and when he got back he wanted him to hit Chin but he couldn't because the day he got back he went to the Bergen that knight and that's when he and John got pinched. He said he had it all planned out. 2 vans and 1 car blocking behind. The 1st van would pull up to Chins club and shoot out all glass in the front with amachine guns , then he would pull up in the 2nd van and kill Chin. This sounds like the 30s with Copone. Does any of this sound feasible to you? I think Sammy went on the lamb to keep Chin from wacking him.
