Really like the song, really like the lyrics, really like the meaning behind them. John sings really good acoustically. This is John, stripped back and bare. At his most vulnerable and that vulnerability makes him a much more likeable performer. This is like John, 1st starting out and nobody knowing who he is and he's really playing to win over fans. Really nice to see.

This song sounds like the foundation or early version of Walt Grace. Very cool to hear how he evolves his music. Love this man and his vulnerability. It’s so brave.⭐️💜🌹

I think after some of the stuff John Mayer has undergone, I was at the Nashville show where he started crying on stage, I feel he's making songs like these as a "recovery", I'm excited to see where these go, sure i miss the blues and electric stuff but I feel these songs will hold some truth that maybe John needs to hear for himself

Somehow, this one gives me hope when he says, "I think this is the year for a break in the clouds." Wish he would have opened his eyes and looked right at the camera, so I'd know he meant ME. (Because of course all perfect communication is through random KZfaq postings from John Mayer to me! Ha!)

People change. They grow older. Their sensibilities change, their perspectives change, their priorities change. Why would anyone expect or even want someone to make the same music over and over again? One of my favorite bands of all time, Incubus, sound radically different on every album, and you know what, not only do I respect it, I love them for it. "This John Mayer sucks" is not yet fait accompli. That being said, among his new material this song is my favorite.

@paulsim26 Don't forget these are the songs in their very early stages, and with no production, so I wouldn't judge the direction he is going completely by these videos. I personally like the songs, but I'm sure they all evolve over time.

@tylerbertges what do you mean this is bad?? This song and the other new ones, I truely LOVE the direction hes taking with his new stuff. Its definitely grabbing me way more than battle studies did, last album was a little to broken heat pop for me, though it still grew on me and it sounds amazing live! Edge of desire is one of his newer epic tunes. Continuum is currently the alpha male hands down, and Room for Sqaures and Heavier Things are absolute precious gems and showed such prowess!
@johnmayerfan198913 жыл бұрын
@norbertrevor @walshkyj @surfer1211 The progression for this song is A#sus2, D#sus2, G#sus2, I believe. The chord shapes are akin to those used in the bridge of "Why Georgia" and the verses of John's version of "Message in a Bottle." So, no this is not the same progression as "The Hurt," despite being rhythmically similar, as noted by @JohnMayer07.

these hater comments are stupid. john has no obligation to anyone to play any specific style of music. if you dont like his new direction then dont listen to it. dont buy the cd when it comes out and dont buy a ticket when he tours to support it. but i can guarantee you it'll still sell a million plus copies and he'll still be selling out arenas. if your a john mayer fan then understand that this is what he has to say right now. if you dont want to listen then just dont

@attenderewelcome This song definitely isn't short of beautiful lyrics hah. I agree that I want him to "come back to blues (say to the melody of Come Back to Bed hah,)" but I really like that he's exploring genres. He's so versatile and this folk expedition proves that. Let's just be happy that our artist is better than other fan's artists; haha cause chances are their artist can't dive in on the deep end of other genres as easily as JM does; shit they probably can't find their way out of pop.

@pau6114 john mayer hasn't lost anything, except for a fan who clearly doesn't support him that way a fan should! the best of his stuff havent been 'hits' who cares if he doesn't get #1's on the charts, he changes lives, creates babies with his music, repairs souls.

@paulsim26 you know when I first listened to heavier things back in the day, I completely hated it. It took me a few tries to fall in love with it. Try that. It might work. Plus like violetskyye said, this was in a very early stage. His songs have so many layers of music when he's done.
