Sure he does! It´s good to hear that from a tremendous musician like you, Nathan. Jeff had always been a big influence on me. Greetings from a peruvian drummer!

Nathan, you as well as Jeff, John, Leland, and all the studio cats in LA and NY and all points in between have created some of the most amazing music and performances that will live on in the History of recorded music. Loved your stint in Toto with Simon for the 35th anniversary Tour, you guys created some magical sounds together, wish you had stayed. We all miss Jeff 'cause there was so much more music left to be made, and that magic may never happen again... 🤔👍 Peace! 😊

I was 15 when I heard my first Toto song. Hold the Line was playing on the radio. Before that moment I'd never heard such great music. I mean it had such a polished groove to it! I will always look up to & admire his playing & after seeing JR talk of how nice a person he was, only gives me more admiration for him! I can only imagine how good he'd be if he were still around today?

Beautifully said William. In this day and age musicians are often acknowledged for how many notes they play, as opposed to how those notes are played with passion, feeling and groove. Jeff, Danny Seraphine & Stewart Copeland are amongst my deepest inspirations as a drummer/percussionist and I will be forever in their debt for what they gave in life. Jeff still inspires me even long after his passing. He was a legend in the highest regard.

A giant talking about another giant, Porcaro and Robinson were in practically every session recording of Los Angeles in the 80s; those studio musicians should be much more recognized by the masses. They should even be officially recognized by the United States government due to their breathtaking contributions to American and world music (including you Mr. Sklar). Heartfelt and amazing video!

This man was and still is the best drummer on the planet!!!!! Goddammed he had the best grooves for every song! And all his grooves sounded so good. Its a shame he died so young, because of him I started drumming. He will be missed but his music lives on for ever! I still get tears in my eyes If I hear some old Toto songs especially where Jeff played the drums. It does something with me, I never had that feeling with any other artist out there. He was my drum hero, and I really miss him. God bless you Jeff in heaven! Bye Superman!🙌🏻

Mr Sklar and JR, thanks for the tribute to the one and only Jeff Porcaro. I remember exactly the time and place I was at when I heard that he had passed. I am very fortunate to know JR personally and he is also one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. JR wished he could have played drums with JP. I actually got to play with JR for a week during a duo clinic tour we did back in 2004 for Yamaha. What a blast! Thanks again. Sincerely, Erik Smith, Norway.

Right on JR , You , Jeff , Carlos Vega , Steve Gadd basically covered most of the music that was "Pop" 'Groovy Jazz R&B throughout 70's and 80's That had sophistication , Mainly because or i should say a BIG part to make the records Super enjoyable . JR ,and your work with Quincy alone , Also very recognizable touch on the drums . So thank you for that sincere Tribute to Jeff .

@rrdrums1: for me a great drummer is somebody who inspire millions of others & gives fun to people hearing his groove/music. There is no need for a drumsolo or any other circusshow. Who beside some drummers will remember a good solo after years. But everybody will know a good and inovative groove of a outstanding song. Gadd is great but a real great drummer don't need a solo. Guys like J.R, Jeff, Ferrone, Roger Taylor.Question: what legacy has a drummer like Thomas Lang give to the music world?

At 1:50 in, JR captures not only the essence f of Jeff Porcaro, his uniqueness, but that goes for all the greats. Sure, there are drummer who could play faster, or had larger kits. But forget about who can play a better drum solo. That's nice and all. I'm a bass player. If you can't play the groove of the song, be in the pocket, and play with taste and distinction and compliment yur fellow bandmates????.... I don't want to play with you. JP was a MONSTER PLAYER! Period! Still miss his playing.

True drumming is keeping the backbeat, keeping the time, keeping the rhythm. It has nothing to do with showboating solos. I've seen and heard drummers who are great at solos but totally suck when playing with seasoned musicians.

Why would you say that about John Robinson? Besides JP and Steve Gadd, he is one of the most recorded drummers in music history, as well as playing on some of the BIGGEST songs ever recorded. Who gives 2 shits if Jeff EVER did a drum solo? Few people on this planet could ever even hope to touch Jeff's feel, groove, time, etc. Sols are not prerequisite to being a great drummer. They are secondary. I think Robinson will be okay without your approval!

Ok, so you are into drum solo only ? When you watch a movie, are you interested in the dazzling special effects, or in the story ? Personally I am more into the story. There are very good sci-fi movies with very few SFX, which are impressive because of the acting, and the story. There are sci-fi movies with the best SFX ever seen, but are bad because of the story which is not compelling, because of the actors who are terrible, etc. Jeff didn't solo. He did music, that's why he was so loved.

It’s obvious that you are completely alone with your opinion. And it is a big impertinence to talk in that way about John R. He probably made more people dancing, singing and smiling with his drumming than Steve. And this is for sure. Music is not being the fastest, being the one with the best (sportive) technical skills! Music is about creativity, emotions and songs that will last forever… Period!
