I have saved this piece on my dvr for years... Rick Reilly is right. John Wooden...makes me want to be a better man. Really, truly does. I feel like I fail so bad at being a husband, and a father to my nine year old son, and 6 year old daughter... I try my best...

Rest well Coach, your words inspired me. He provided the example and the challenge for anyone willing to attempt to be better, it is something I will work on, each day, for the rest of my life. Always teaching, to the very end, and for that, I say thank you.

Coach John Wooden has been a true inspiration to me in the teaching profession and the coaching profession. I have just about every book that he has written. Whether reading his book about basketball or life in general, Coach John Wooden puts everything in perspective on how you should live and enjoy life. If I could be just a fifth of what John Wooden, I believe I will have accomplished quite a bit. You are truly missed and thank you! R.I.P. Coach John Wooden.

+Tapiwa Ushe John Wooden himself is a Christian, and yes God loves you too. He is always willing to accept us when we come to his presence. John 3:16 'For God so loved the world that He gave his only son,so that anyone who believes in him may not perish but have eternal life.'
