WE GET REAL: REAL ATHLETES REAL ISSUES REAL SOLUTIONS
Many of the coaching videos you’ll see particularly on Instagram focus on high level and elite athletes However, over the years I have tried to always include the jumpers and sprinters that most coaches coach when making videos.
How many woemmen are going to jump over 7m or men over 8.20m .. very few.
As coaches we are concerned with optimising athletes’ talent - whatever this may be.
Improvement is improvement whether from 5.80m to 6m or 6.50m - 6.70m for women. Somehow - and I guess rightly or wrongly - the later would get more views probably than the former.
So, in this video you’re going to see a wide cross-section of my jumpers and what we are working on, what they have difficulties with, what we have tried to remedy them and what solutions have been put in place.
VIDEO TIME-LINE
0.00Min: Intro
0.19min Adhana and Sophie Long Jump
Both need to work on their jump set-ups
Adhana
Needed to work more on her sprinting. Cue was to "Stamp down on the step".
Problems with opening the take-off too soon.
Solutions
3.21min: Paul
This was a particularly good session for him. He - like Adhana - has problems with his take-off position.
We focus on getting "on top" of the final three steps.
5.13min: Kuria and her double arm triple conversion
Be confident in the change. I believe that ultimately it will work.
I explain why.
Many of you guys are me questions on getting the double arm action on-point.
7.35min: Summing up
I hope this helps you if you have similar issues

Never was intrested in long and triple jumps before I started to watch your videos. I was mostly interested in sprinting. But the more I watch and learn (and research myself) the more engaged I become. Recently I found that forward double arm swing adds about 0.3 m/s to take-off velocity for jumping action (which is about 10% higher than with no forward arm action). How big this "effect" could be in comparison with single arm forward action (if we talking about that girl you readapt and relearn)? Looks like she must do higher forward range of arm swing and also "hummering" harder when back swing at ground contact). You may know that horse racers (riders) has developed some special technique and behavior that horses started to run faster with a rider on top of them than without the rider. If some proper arm action could add some more additional force at ground contact and add Take-off velocity (as I mentioned atleast 10%), it alone could add about...i don't know... 15%-30% to performance (if to count about 5-10% performance enchancement on each jump in triple jump). Also I have some "vision" on flight technique (form) in long jump and I think it's far from optimal form (that can be achievable and performed by athletes). Existing one takes too much front airflow force at starting trajectory (from take-off to highest point of COG), in short I think athletes should to lower body's area in space (from "vertical stick" form to more "ball" form, moving their legs and knees up to the chest or as high as possible and keep that position until athlete will reach Highest flight point, and do that almost instantly after take-off (or AFastAP). At that point athlete can performe that gymnastic stretching form and become like a "bullet" - straight legs close to the chest, require a lot of flexibility, but may be worth it. Some call it "fold" in gymnastics (sitting hamstring stretch). Overall such form should give better flight aerodynamics and less harmful effect of forward airflow). Of course all that is just my personal consideration with no intention on expertise.

That's great that you are taking to jumping as well and your posts are always informative and well thought out. Much of what you say re the triple jump double arm is from what I know correct. You ae also right regarding the girl's arms. We are having to work on this as it becomes an issue with timing the arm drive when doing double arm... that's why we will keep working on it as it will take some time to get on top of the correct or better movement. And yes, too re the hit on the ground contact. We are getting better positions... gradually just need to power them up. I will come back to you on the long jump as just rushing out to coach!
