Not really true, I hear people complain about that all the time - people constantly reference the "MCU template". Also, although a lot of MCU movies are similar (and that certainly is a flaw), Joker is extremely similar to Taxi Driver, so much so that it's impossible not to notice if you've seen both films. Don't get me wrong, I prefer Joker over any MCU movie (although Winter Soldier comes close), but I do think that this particularly issue is a much bigger flaw in Joker than in any MCU movie.

I've watched "Joker" film twice, and I picked up on some things. 1. I've noticed Arthur dances every time he murder's his victims. 2. I've noticed Arthur mother "Penny" never flatline after suffocation. 3. The two psychiatrist clock on the wall tells the same time... 11:11am. 4. When Arthur bangs his head against the phone booth, it's the same time that he does it at Arkham hospital. 5. The final joke is on the audience, when he says, "You wouldn't get the joke." 6. I really believe he killed the real psychiatrist after that long session.

@@j.k.1239 I agree and as John said why not be inspired by great movies when making one. Not gonna be the fastest paced movie like the ones we've accepted from Marvel with little to none emotion or character devolpment. Also looks like its gonna be on par to make just as much as Infinity War without it being released in China. The movie is a work of art with zero CGI well maybe the blood splatter.

While the film is similar to Taxi Driver, Taxi Driver was also heavily influenced by an old Western from the 50s called The Searchers with John Wayne. Even critics at the time considered Taxi Driver as the spiritual successor to The Searchers. Also let's not forget that Martin Scorsese himself was involved with the film before he dropped out as producer to work on The Irishman.

To do what you’re saying, they would have to give joker a show in order to be long enough to show all of the details of why he spiraled to insanity. Also, people who go through things that are traumatic are more likely to have serious mental illness.

One of my absolute favourite movies with a psychotic character is Romper Stomper... Russell Crowe is amazing in that movie. Also American Psycho, American History X, Nightcrawler etc etc

Good review John. People need to stop trying to compare Phoenix’s Joker with Ledger’s Joker. Let there respective portrayals of each version stand on its own.
@HyperSole
@HyperSole 4 жыл бұрын
Its unfair to compare Heath Ledger and Phoenix because this movie is a about Arthur Fleck the man and he only becomes Joker at the end, whereas Heath is already full on Joker in TDK

If you watch the movie again and when you see him confident, think of is as in his head, similar to when he did his stand up, same thing happens on that late night TV, on the TV screen he dosent talk or get a chance to, so in reality what he says is in his head while he mumbles or giggles

I related to this movie so much I was kinda reluctant to share my thoughts of it to the friends that I went to watch it with. Really good film, I already watched it 2 times. I left the theater feeling like the joker lol

It's been a while since ive seen taxi driver, but as far as I remember Joker definitely is similar in plot and style but not in a tasteless copying sort of way. but I'd say it's fair to think of Joker as a comic book world Joker inserted version of Taxi Driver. And even with some very specific nods to Taxi Driver and King of Comedy , I felt like Joker had its own visual flare, style and the script which is less complex but I didn't mind the straight-to-point lines. Both are masterpieces to me.

I watched Taxi Driver for the first time not too long ago and I really liked it, but I pretty easily like Joker more. This was one of the best films I have ever seen and might already be in my top 5 of all time.

Watched this the other week again, I could just feel a lot of sympathy for Fleck, all his actions seem motivated by disappointment, lies by others and treatment by others, not because of being evil for being evil sake. Phoenix really excelled here. I loved the scene at the fence with young Bruce Wayne

I've watched Taxi Driver and KOC many times over the years and and there's hardly any resemblance of those films in the Joker! The problem is the most reviewers over think the film's background & motive and create pointless theories and comparisons that don't exist
