@@MC-nb6jx Does it matter if she ever in her entire life wore makeup to look attractive? No. All the comment does is seek to invalidate a feminist's point of view, which is what Jordan has a trend of in his posts. My understanding as a woman is that we wear makeup to appear more attractive to others be it men or other women. We all know pretty privilege exists, and as humans we will always want to grasp for whatever menial artifact we can find to advance ourselves in the social hierarchy. That being said, we women also wear makeup to attract the opposite sex. We've seen beauty standards change over time. The Greek valued plump figures because it was a sign of wealth and being able to feed yourself. East Asia valued petite bodies and small feet. French aristocracy valued pale skin and rosy cheeks because it reflected your status, whereas darker skinned people were attributed to commoners who worked in the fields and got sun tanned. For her to say it's because of male coercion is insanely ignorant to me.

'Powerful women' are so reluctant to admit they want to be admired by men because they think it makes them look weak. Men want to be admired by women and women want to be admired by men. It's the basis of so many things. The resistance to admitting this is ridiculous. Let's face it, it's a cause pushed by the unadmired. As sad as it is for them, nature doesn't lie.

At any time, any woman can make a choice to not wear make up. They are not slaves. If you choose to stop wearing make up and someone comments negatively on this, so what, who cares? What this is really about is control. Women wear make up to get something from others, both men and women. Validation, acceptance, a feeling of being valued and loved. To stop wearing make up is to unhook yourself from the opinions of others. You no longer get the validation from them, you may even get critcism, you will be ignored and passed over, but who cares. You will no longer be enslaved to the drug of attention and validation from others. The price of freedom is to be ignored, forgotten about, maybe even disrespected, but in truth, when you get attention and validation just because you wear make up, then you never had anything in the first place, it was all a lie. Nobody is controlling you, not men, not other women, whats controlling you is your own addiction to validation and attention. Give this up and you'll have yourself true freedom and peace in this world.

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this video, because it has always bothered me when women comment that they wear makeup for themselves, not for others. What it essentially means is that they do wear it for themselves, so that they can feel better, or validated, or attractive to people, be it men or women. And for us to pretend that we wear makeup for ourselves without any hope or desire for outside admiration or validation is absurd to me.

The questions is: why do women get asked this in the first place? You never hear anyone questioning men why they shave? Or why they put cologne? Or why they groom or dress nicely? Why the hell do women have to defend putting on makeup or not putting on makeup and whether or not that is to heighten their attraction? Who the hell cares? So what if they do? Can't they be feminists and wear makeup at the same time? And maybe they wear makeup to hide the bruises given by their partners the night before. Sick and fucking tired of this inane question.
@eisha4755

@@paolariveratirado4296 well, women shave too. They also put perfume. That is a part of basic hygiene, no? Why would anyone ask questions about that? Makeup does not serve the same purpose as those things.. it alters your face, enhances it, and the face is the first thing you notice when you meet someone. So rather than take offense with the question: 'why do women wear makeup', we should be honest about the reason rather than take offense and get unnecessarily defensive. It is okay to wear makeup, and no one is stopping us from doing it. The issue is when we pretend that we wear makeup solely for ourselves, when that is just not true.

And now, we have Jordan Peterson declaring that feminism is just plain wrong, no matter what. And if JP has followers, he is influencing all of those followers to be intolerant of feminism. No, Peterson does not win. All he does is show he is intolerant of a person living a lifestyle he does not agree with, so he decides to criticize her and give her the task of giving him an explanation he will accept in order to justify her way of life. Jordan is not seeking to gain information, he is seeking to insult her feminist perspective. I lost respect for him. Meanwhile, she decided NOT to waste time explaning to Jordan that, yes, women have been socialized to compete for mates and for success in general, because that would require for him to accept our biological history. She realizes that a person with a strong religious perspective is not likely to accept that our current society is reversed from what we inherited from Nature. So, I have great respect for her...no sense wasting her time. No, I won't be subscribing to Jordan PETERson any time soon...oh, and look up the origin of the term "alpha male". The assistant coach took one look at them and said, "Wow, they sure have their war paint on." In a way, it was kind of a silly comment, but I think it was also somewhat profound. Women spend a lot of time, energy, and money on cosmetics and fashion, because they feel those things give them power. It's not about power. It's about feeling pretty. Thats it. Women like to feel pretty, because they are feminine, and this society tells them that makeup can help to achieve that goal. It's that simple. Jordan was over complicating things, and this lady's reason is basically her being fearful of what others think of her, so she conforms to other people's standard of "pretty". Those things you mentioned about men are interests. The men that think those things afford them "power" are insecure and are using those things to make up for something that they THINK they are lacking, but are really not lacking in reality.

@@thrusta100 Thats a dating app stat, and this stat exists, because women are different than men. Masculinity as in taking the lead, having the confidence to be yourself at all times, having and pursuing goals and being responsible enough to take care of yourself and your household and being mostly unperturbable. @@BigBri550 Define "everyone", because I don't think I have ever heard a single man in my entire life complain about an attractive woman not wearing make up. This is usually women attacking each other as they seem to enjoy doing for whatever reason. Call it jealousy or pettiness, that is all I have ever seen. Bottom line is that men wont say to no to a good looking woman or even complain what so ever if she wears no make up. In fact, most guys I've known who sleep around a lot, prefer women who don't need to spend 30 min taking off the mask before they get busy. Not to mention the women that wont take it off and everything just smears all over you... Nah.. guys don't give a crap

@someone-ji2zb First off, what I described was back in the '80s, which was a VERY superficial era. My wife (back then) heard from all of her friends, her hairdresser, and even her employer: you should wear makeup and a brazier. She ended up compromising slightly on the makeup but atood her ground on the no-bra policy. Men found her attractive either way, as did I. But yet she was pressured to measure up to sexist standards like other females. I don't know if you can appreciate what American society was like back in the '80s. You had to be there, I guess.
@someone-ji2zb
@someone-ji2zb 6 ай бұрын
@@BigBri550 You lost me at 'sexist standards'. I have no appreciation for modern life, or anything post sexual revolution. I believe premarital sex is not only a sin, but completely illogical and has led to our society falling apart. With that said, having certain elements of pressure from professional environments that are unfair are to be expected for both men and women. In most most cases, those elements are unfair. But if we talk about the one 'boss' in your wife's old job, what about the rest of the work place? You telling me all of those guys were of like mind? Are we really going to fall into the "exception makes the rule" argument? Either way, I don't fully disagree with your sentiment, but the social requirement outside of work was and still is not that prevalent between the sexes. A guy will have sex with a cardboard tube, and most guys aren't going to demand their wives slap on make up every single day of their lives, especially if she is uncomfortable with it. However, that is in regards to seeking to build a family. If a woman leverages sex to her advantage, then she might just attract those 'sexist' men who just want a hook up. I will tell you this, being born into this wasteland that started far before I was conceived has not been fun. Logic has been thrown out the window, and what I was taught to be common sense growing up is now rare. Anyway, to wrap up my overall feeling on this; a woman will have ZERO issue finding a husband if she wears no make up. Who gives a flying crap what her friends preach to her or what guys who want one night stands think?
@BigBri550
@BigBri550 6 ай бұрын
@@someone-ji2zb I hear you. Where this all started was with my memories of my first wife back in the '80s, and how she was pressured- more like micro aggressed- to wear makeup and bras precisely BECAUSE she was pretty. It was like they thought she owed it to everyone else. And I'm not sure you understand what sexism is. However, you gave a glowing example of sexism within your comment, "what about the rest of the work place? You telling me all of those guys were of like mind?" Why did it not occur to you that she worked mostly with females? You automatically assumed a male-dominated workplace: that is an example of a sexist perception. Most of the pressure my first wife faced was from other females. Females pressured her to prove her attractiveness instead of just seeing it; males pressured her to prove her competence instead of simply recognizing she was smarter and more capable than all of them put together. Like I said before, the '80s were probably before your time, so I conclude that you are not in a position to admonish me about my perception of a time period you cannot remember.

The likes and positive comments aren't reflective of society as a whole. Just because you're not getting called out doesn't mean that it isn't obvious to almost everyone that you have serious issues. Most people are either too nice, or don't want to deal with the backlash. Women, you being pleasant to be around, showing genuine interest in him, and not being ugly is good enough for most guys. My last girlfriend is 57 and never wore makeup, not dyed her hair (it was long and gray) nor shaved, wore perfume, or any of the things women in our culture are encouraged to do to be attractive to men. Assume that women always attempted to make themselves more attractive with make-up, provocative clothing, perfume, flowers, beads, tatts, shaving certain parts of their body, losing weight, etc. And then (most likely) men recognized a way to exploit that propensity. If women could be made to feel deficient by being compared to other women molded by the advertising industry to look more desirable to men, then products could be developed, and sold to bridge that gap. In other words, just buy these products and you too can be desirable.....to men. Ever notice how lesbians (the ones I've known) don't give a shit about make-up, shaving, hot looking clothes? Women are made to feel unattractive, by the advertising industry, and then sold products to make them OK. And, of course, women buy and use those products to the tune of $40 billion/year

Its something that most people know when they see a girl with makeup (nowadays even some men wear it) but they don't say it out loud. The self love thing is all nonsense. I'm a girl who does not wear makeup, and I've been judged by both men and tyrannical women who do wear makeup. And man, when Jordan responded with the oppressive men statement, that hit home. As for her reply, i get what she's saying, but she didn't frame it right and sort of blamed it on the men. She said it's not about oppressive men. But it is. "The Human Animal" by Desmond Morris explains all of it quite well. Also, what physical traits women are looking for in a mate. Check it out, it is a real eye opener.

@@toddstevens13 I don't see how. A woman can look great without make up, and then on special occasion apply some and look insanely good. With that said, the issue with make up every single day is actually a couple of major things. It causes damage to the skin which can be permanent in regards to some ugly scarring (many women under 30 in the US already suffer from this). Changing your appearance every single day to look entirely different is not exactly an honest approach when it comes to finding men

On a similar note, why do women use filters? I do not believe you get to blame "society" on this one. Afterall, it´s a fairly recent development. The truth is that they use it because it makes them more beautiful (just as make up) and this gives them power, an influence they can weild in their favour. Whether or not gimmicks like these should be allowed in a workplace environment is a perfectly reasonable question.

I am not a psychologist, but my guess would be that women are trying to build a competitive hierarchy that doesn't exist. The way the biological hierarchy works is Attractive woman attracts alpha man who mates with her and protects his offspring from her. She wins by having her genes pass on and survive. Defining success by having children isn't pc, so they are trying to create a hierarchy that says "I look good and could get a man" making the means to an end: "attracting a man" the thing to achieve instead of the actual end: "having children" be the end goal.

The answer was given by Desmond Morris who did a zoological analysis of the human species. Rouge is too remember the labia during oestrys so it is a very sexual signal send to males. For example, you generally do not use a very red lipstick during the day, more in evening or evenings.

No. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Wearing rouge has nothing to do with the labia during oestrys. After all, if a woman wants a man, she does not flash her pubes and say, "Look, I am ovulating." In fact, we cover up the sex organs with clothing. We have simply created new visual cues to decide what passes for being attractive or being sexually available. For instance: breasts have absolutely *nothing* to do with sex, but we have now made them a symbol of sex by making sure they are covered up in public so that the only time a male sees a pair of breasts is during the sex act. We have socialized women to conform to what we say is appealing. For instance, in some parts of Europe, women do not shave their armpits. We would look and say "ewwww!" They would look at our women and ask why they are trying to look like adolescents who haven't grown arm hair, yet. Red lipstick simply catches our attention more. So does black lipstick. Women tend to use makeup with more contrast when their goal is to be noticed, but women will wear makeup that "blends" when their goal is to just go to work and not stand out as much.

Well, most women of the last 40~ years or so in the US have been wearing make up every single day, and it has led to premature skin problems and permanent scarring early in life that otherwise would have never happened. Natural women don't necessarily choose not to wear make up because they look good without it.... they look good without it because they didn't apply it very often (if at all), so the skin remained healthy and young.

I've asked my wife and daughter this: why do women wear makeup, and their answer is; they primarily do it because it's a societal norm, like shaving legs and armpits, it's what most women do, so they do it to, subconsciously, to not look drab or get shamed by others. However, more and more women are not wearing makeup daily and are breaking out of these societal norms, like more and more men are not wearing silly neckties and three-piece suites. Women wearing rouge on their cheeks has nothing to do with sexual flush, they just do it because they've seen others do it, and it's a fading fad.

You are correct. When women wear it, they don't think they are doing it because of sexual reasons, but that were the original reasons. Prostitutes introduced it into 20th century. Today women wear it without knowing why. It's sad. I'm glad new trends of not wearing it are coming.

"The patience of a saint"? Is that why he continually interrrupted her and challenged anything she said? The interview starts with her challenging his comment that makeup was designed to look like ripe fruit. Rather than defend or explain his comment, he asks her why women wear makeup. He is basically saying, "you cannot prove I am wrong, so you must be wrong." Not a great stance. That is like someone saying "prove to me there is life somewhere else in the Universe, otherwise we are the pinnacle of existence." There is no way to win that argument. She is not ignorant, either. When the topic touched on how women are conditioned to compete for males, she was going to discuss the biological history, but she recognized that his rejection of biological sciences would most likely prevent him from accepting her explanation. She just decided to stop wasting her time. "Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and annoys the pig." JP is not kindly engaging her, he is trying to ridicule the feminist perspective. Why? Simply because he feels threatened by it in some way.
