Paul Washer on the Gifts For Today: • Paul Washer on Spiritu...
Jordan Riley from Real Talk is a hardcore hyper-Calvinist and a Cessationist and he recently made a video attacking Sean Christie from Revealing Truth. Jordan Riley told people to unsubscribe from Revealing Truth simply because Revealing Truth is is not a Cessationist. Jordan Riley seems to think that no one should watch any KZfaq channel that's made by someone who believes in the gifts of the Spirit. Bizarre. He provides no scripture to support his views and he just makes baseless claims and accusations. In this video I refute him point by point. Jordan Riley's channel is really just a McDonalds version of a discernment ministry. He tries to expose false teachers but he is not very good at doing it. He just parrots John McArthur. He doesn't dig into the word for himself. There are much better channels out there and ill recommend one.... "Revealing Truth"! Jordan Riley even attacks Sean simply for saying that he has prayed for people and seen them healed. Even Jim Osmond and Justin Peters claim that they have prayed for people and seen them healed.

Personally I don't care what anyone of them got to say. Plenty of morons outside there that pose as Christian teachers, while spouting drivel. No need to give them over the top attention. There is far more important things that we should focus our attention on. Gospel Essentials for examples. Would love to see ITB doing more on this. It's sometimes necessary to expose false teachers.... Or rather what teachings are problematic to false. But one shouldn't assist them with their marketing neither.

As a Calvinist and Cessationist. I agree with what Justin Peters said that God indeed does do miracles today, though it is not by our command or by our own will. If it is Gods will, than He will. What doesn’t Jordan understand? This is the cessationist view- not that miracles never happen at all, ever. But that men like Bill Johnson do not have the power to bend the arm of the Almighty to do his will, but that by prayer, we still do see people healed.

Justin Peters has a very complicated view on that issue and he often backtracks on it. It’s not that people ever had the ability to call on miracles themselves either, it was always the Holy Ghost doing it and using their lips to speak the words. True miracles where believers themselves were used as healers, or to speak other languages, etcetera were always being used by the Holy Ghost. People were never able to speak what they wanted into existence, people are not GOD. Since you are Calvinist and subscribe to cessationism, I would point out that your theology comes primarily from Augustine. It just so happens that Augustine did write about miracles of the Holy Ghost during his lifetime and he said that it would take him more parchment than was available for him to record all the miracles of GOD that he had personally witnessed. I always find it interesting that Calvinists get their primary theological understandings from Augustine and then go on to claim that the gifts of the spirit faded away during the lives of the apostles when Augustine himself said otherwise

Jordan Riley is prideful and a complete hypocrite as well. I feel sorry for him. It must be hard to be so unloving and critical of people constantly. Imagine thinking you know it all 😬 he needs to repent.. I also saw him saying to unsubscibe from Seans channel in the comments. It looks like he's apologising because he had backlash, not because he is genuinely sorry. He even said in the comments he did nothing wrong.. He definitely implied Sean wasn’t saved and i believe he knew that. Does he want drama or something? Think its gonna get him more views perhaps. Either way he doesn’t seem to have a Christian heart and its really sad to see. Thanks for sticking up for Sean who is obviously a brother in Christ with sound teaching

Satan knows scripture well ..but in his arrogance he attempted to use the word against the WORD.. Therfore satan lacks the understanding of the WORD as he always uses it for his own.. His pride will never let him surrender to the truth of scripture.. You mentioned a great teacher preacher by the name of David Wilkerson(watchman).. What makes a wonderful teacher or even one that shares the truth of the WORD is that it always come from the fruits of the spirit given to each.. David Wilkerson once became so arrogant in his position and knowledge (self confessed) that he stopped everything he was doing and went to his home town in the hills and repented before the LORD for a year..(humilty and surrender).. We as passionate christians can become so full of ourselves when we correct others that it comes from a place that no longer benefits the kingdom of GOD but our own intelligence and pride.. It is a true blessing to have you and the like to stand up for the truth in correcting and reproofing.. but way to often the ending to this scripture is forgotten and not only in name.. For righteousness would most definitely include humilty and kindness.. There is always a way to disagree and even to unsubscribe.. For of anything we do excludes love.. it is not from GOD but self.. I unsubscribed from Jordan Riley a while back.. Not because he did not use scripture (not always correctly) but because of his dogmatic stance and his unteachable spirit and condescending manner.. As with John Mcarthur if Jordan Riley cannot repent or accept correction in truth and love then neither should be followed or shared with any other.. Satan can speak a 99% truth but he is still representing himself and is short of a very valuable 1% for salvation.. Should i then listen or share his wilful untruths because of the rest of his teaching sounding biblical.. I think not.. I do pray Jordan Riley will humble himself in sharing the WORD but i fear that he might as you said be blindly regurgitating those he admires.. Here is a scripture for all who go out and share GOD'S WORD.. "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall" 1 Corinthians 10:12

I am myself do believe the Gifts are available today. However, I have to correct some of your mistakes. as you corrected his, On who is a Pentecostal. Pentecostal hold to certain set beliefs which not all Charismatics do. You can be a Charismatic without being a Pentecostal, mainly due to the fact their is no strict set of beliefs to call yourself a Charismatic other than believing in continuationism. 1) Keith Green, was not a Pentecostal. He was associated with the Vineyard movement, which calls itself a charismatic Christian denomination, not Pentecostal and he himself never identify himself as a Pentecostal. 2) A.W. Tozer was not a Pentecostal, he did emphasize the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer. He was in the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) denomination, which is not Pentecostal but has roots in the Holiness movement. 3) Martyn Lloyd-Jones was not a Pentecostal. he held to continuationism but as a leading figure in the conservative evangelical movement he held Reformed theology actually actively rejecting being identify as a Pentecostal. I feel maybe you think all people who believe in the gifts of the Spirit being active today are Pentecostal this is not the case and you should never say someone is something they do not identify themselves as.

It's weird to me reading all these terms for types of Christians. I don't consider myself anything other than Christian though I believe in charismatic worship and that the fruits of the Spirit are made manifest in our lives through things like healing, prophesying and speaking in tongues to only name a few. Of course, His Spirit is also made manifest in just showing the love, joy and peace that he brings through our actions towards other. However, I can easily enjoy sitting in a service hearing the Word preached by a pastor who doesn't believe those things personally. Do labels, other than Christian, unite us or divide us?

I made the right choice to now avoid his channel because instead of slander because he didn’t get shout outs he could do friendly debates other KZfaqrs or lives with others. He seems to only like praise and he doesn’t know how to work well with and communicate with others in a live for example. I think that the reason you don't see or hear of many miracles hapening today is because if say a healing takes place they do not go about broadcasting it to all & sundry. When Jesus performed miracles, healings & cast out evil spirits from someone he didn't necessarily want it broadcasted everywhere but people still did. He wanted people to come to Him not just because of the miracles he performed but because of who He was, the Son of God, the Messiah. I listen to the late David Wilkerson who was the pastor of Times Square Church, New York. He was truly led by the Holy Spirit & man of God who had a life of prayer & knew his Bible from cover to cover. Although it is a Penticostal church he did not mention a lot about healing, speaking in tongues etc in his sermons or concentrate on this yet it would be happening. It was a miracle that he was given the theatre for nothing, not a penny or a dime to be a church. His preaching is so Holy Spirit led, Not many churches are so Bible based, so prayerful & so full of the Holy Spirit as this church was & is. Many drug addicts & alcoholics turned to Christ & gave up their adfiction instantly. I am very pleased you stood by Sean today as he is a lovely genuine person & a Christian & I listen to him as well. God Bless You richly. 💟✝️🛐💜

I think I kind of understand where Jordan is coming from although I don’t agree with him on a lot of things including his take on Pentecostals. I believe he used to be part of the Pentecostal, Word of Faith, Prosperity Gospel crowd. He’s since come to find the truth that many of those practices and beliefs are unbiblical. Instead of striving to stay true to God’s Word, he seems more interested in calling out every little thing that he disagrees with whether it lines up or not. I can understand this because I was that way for a while. I don’t have a KZfaq channel though so I was able to work through it all in private. But I came out of the Pentecostal church and came to true saving faith in 2019. I’m not saying that all Pentecostals are bad and that you are not saved if you hold to some of those beliefs. But there are many errors that flow through that crowd. Anyway, I went through what some refer to as “the cage stage” where anything remotely Pentecostal was wrong in my eyes. I’ve now come to balance out my view on things. I still lean more towards the cessationist view of the gifts, but I’m also open to them as well. As was mentioned in the video above, there are no verses that specifically say that the gifts would cease with the Apostles. I actually take on a view similar to Paul Washer as in I’d say I’m more of a practical cessationist. If the true gifts are displayed and are in line with God’s Word then I’m open to them and I will be praising God for those gifts being displayed, but I’m also super cautious about what I perceive as a true gift of the Spirit.

At times, I had started watching someone because another KZfaqr talked to them or recommended them, so at this point I hadn't watched any of Jordan Riley's videos. But after watching this, I can't say that I'd be interested in seeing any of Jordan Riley's content after he had misrepresented Sean's views, (I have been following Revealing Truth). He also seems to present a false dichotomy that either God always heals or He never heals, when God can heal whenever or however He wants. In the end, Jordan seems to be going for sensationalism rather than accuracy.

Thanks, Caleb, for your thoughtful analysis. I'd like to make several comments, if I may. 1. One of the earlier comments pointed out the problem of conflating terms like 'Pentecostal', 'charismatic', and 'continuationist'. I agree that these are nuanced terms and should be handled carefully whenever possible, but that's difficult to do when we're looking for an umbrella term for groups and individuals who believe that miracles are still possible today but not necessarily normative. 2. I believe that many continuationists do not have a clear idea of what cessationism actually is. Like Jim Osman and Justin Peters, most cessationists do not actually believe that no miracles ever occur today, but they do believe that miracles in the form of apostolic sign gifts are no longer normative in the church. On this point I think there is far more agreement than disagreement between most cessationists and self-described continuationists such as Sean. I think there are continuationists who are something like 'functional cessationists', but even that term can be misunderstood and misused. 3. Regarding the general absence of miracles and genuine spiritual gifts (particularly prophecy and tongues) in the church today, I do believe that that absence is strong evidence in favor of those things no longer being normative for the church. I say this as an ex-Pentecostal (23 years in the movement) who, upon reflection, cannot recall a single instance of witnessing any true demonstrations of those things in the churches I attended. Again, that doesn't mean that I believe they are no longer possible -- just not normative. 4. Regarding Jordan's channel: A platform like KZfaq gives any wannabe discernment ministry an audience. But not all discernment channels are equal in terms of content, timeliness, production values, etc. I think Jordan's channel falls short on a couple of metrics. First, his content tends to be redundant -- he often covers topics that others have already addressed. Second, I simply do not like his delivery -- his tone, mannerisms, and dress (the backward cap, especially) make his channel sound like its target audience is a junior high youth group. Just not my cup of tea -- there are other channels that cover the same content better and in more depth. Not knocking his intentions -- just the execution. Have a blessed day, my friend!

Great Video but I disagree with one point you made. I don’t know if you misspoke but it’s where you said Paul encouraged the Corinthians to seek the gifts of the Spirit, He actually didn’t say that. He told them to pursue Love and ‘desire’ the gifts. 1 Corinthians 14:1 “Pursue love, yet earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.” It’s important that the distinction is made because it may convey the wrong message for people to conclude that they should go after the gifts instead of understanding reason for desiring the gifts in the first place which is to demonstrate love in building up one another in the body.
