One of the more underrated fighters in Light-Heavyweight history! Jose Torres was an excellent fighter who was trained by Cus D'Amato. The peek-a-boo boxing style was instilled in him and he executed this very well during his title reign. Enjoy! www.patreon.com/haNZAgod

I definitely love watching his execution of the style. He, Patterson and Tyson all used it but each seemed to make it their own. Torres was at a lot of Patterson and Buster Mathis fights and I love hearing him shout out the number combinations to his stable mates.

When people want to study the peek-a-boo style for them to use, Jose should be the one they study, a more fundamental approach of the style and achievable with hard work. Tyson's take on it was achieved not just with work, but his raw gifted talent.

Horse💩. Tyson had the best display of this style. The peek a boo style is a so called black street style that the brothers brought with them to the north big citiesfromthe Carolina’s.Cus saw it’s a great style and dispensed it to his fighters. Who was Cus two best fighters with the style. Patterson and Tyson. Patterson is from North Carolina. Tyson’s real dad is from Carolina too. That’s why Tyson has the best take on the style because the peek a boo style was used on the streets. Tyson was a gang member who fought matches long before learning to “box” the style protects your teeth. Aka guard your grill as a lot of people don’t have dental benefits at that time. Furthermore Tyson brought elements that Cus salivated over. Tactics like “running”. “Slip to the rabbit” etc. since you know do dam much about the style. Do you know what these terms mean????? This is why Tyson got more guys outta there with his technique was superior. I’m scratching my head at what could make a man say something as ridicules as this guy is better than Tyson or even Patterson. You clearly suffer from some kind of bias.

@@massdisruption3437 I don't recall ever saying Jose is a better PAB fighter than Patterson or Tyson. Clearly Tyson reigns supreme over the other two, followed by Patterson. But how many *average* people have the perfect combination of athleticism, handspeed, and KO power in both hands that Patterson and especially Tyson possessed? Not many I think. It is for this reason I am saying that the *average* person who wants to study PAB for boxing should look at Torres. Yes, he lacks many of the qualities that Tyson and Patterson brought to the table. But that is exactly why it's a more obtainable form for the average person to achieve. Again, this is my own opinion and you're free to disagree with me especially if you believe you have more knowledge on this subject, and I do not claim to be an expert on it.
@martinburke11
@martinburke11 Жыл бұрын
Tyson had obvious physical gifts, but those later refinements that D'Amato developed in the following years (the pivots, the shifts, and the drills to perfect them) are well within the reach of anyone with decent athleticism and enough desire to drill it into muscle memory. The craziest thing to me about the peekaboo style was that the original inspiration was Slapsie Maxie Rosenbloom.
@anthonywilliams9334
@anthonywilliams9334 Жыл бұрын
@@keanan5360This is an accurate take. You were very careful both times to use language that Torres would be the better style study for the AVERAGE boxer who desired to incorporate PAB into those in their repertoire. You made no claim of inferiority/superiority of boxers or eras. If the student possesses more athleticism other options open up to incorporate.

Peek-a-Boo was stylistically just right for Jose Torres. He did not have a lot of mobility or particularly fast hands. It afforded him a defense to stand in place while he lie in wait to find angles for counters.

@DanTheMan no you don’t know what your talking about. The peek a boo style was started as a so called black street fighting style. It was brought to New York by blacks from the Carolina’s. Cus discovered this style and taught his fighters that. The style is for shorter stocky men who fight taller men and have to guard there grill. As everyone didn’t have dental benefits while Cus tinkered with systematizing it. The style was already developed though. It’s two best practitioners are Patterson and Tyson. Patterson is from North Carolina. Tyson’s real dad is from North Carolina. That style was used all through New York especially Brooklyn by short fighters. Tyson had the best delivery system with it. He has “running”slipping the rabbit which the other guys didn’t. Cus funneled guys from New York who already had street experience with it. Tyson is a ex gang member who fought regularly. Again while Cus honed the system around this. The fighting style was made by so called blacks.

That’s why it’s important for the practitioner to strength that area. Another example is a boxer developing good lateral movement, that allows that person to keep their hands low.
@somewhere6
@somewhere6 2 жыл бұрын
@@davonbenson4361 Movement also has to be part of the equation because no matter how solid you make the muscles in your mid-section, they don't properly cover that area with all the nerves just below the heart and between the ribs. That being one of the design flaws in the human body as far as boxing is concerned.
