Fringed by rainforest, Waterview Creek tumbles down many picturesque cascades and rapids, with beautiful clear water in the upper reaches and slightly murky down further but still full of fish life, Jourama Falls is situated 91km north of Townsville or 24km south of Ingham just off the Bruce Highway and is worth a visit if you are interested in our native freshwater fish, the Splendid Rainbowfish here is a really nice local with it's dark banding, it reminds me of a similar local from Davies Creek on the way to Mareeba north of Cairns and lives in the same type of biotope, I also noticed the Pacific Blue-eyes here are particularly nice as well.
The habitat up stream was very rocky and devoid of any aquatic plants but down stream had a couple of species that are pretty common like Hydrilla verticillata, and hydrocotyle tripartita.
Fish species I saw here:
Melanotaenia splendida splendida, Pseudomugil signifer, Craterocephalus stercusmuscarum, Leiopotherapon unicolor, Hypseleotris compressa.
