Price is a big factor for BYD in Europe right now, the BYD seal is almost half the price of a Mercedes C200 in Australia (just over $50KAUD and the C200 is $93K with no options) whereas in Europe it's about 20%-30% more than a C200.

Even though Chinese cars are twice as expensive in Europe, European politicians still accuse China of dumping and impose an additional 38% punitive tariff. Adding the old 10%, the tariff on Chinese cars in Europe is 48%. Europeans complain that Chinese cars are too expensive, while European politicians accuse Chinese cars of dumping at low prices.

Design is where BYD has excelled...while legends like Mercedes came up with God awful EV designs, BYD produced what the consumer wanted...not what they thought the consumer wanted

Design is highly subjective. I personally hate the BYD design, it's even uglier than modern BMWs. I also never heard anybody that BYD build pretty cars. BYD wins because of the price-value, that makes up for the design.

History repeats itself once again. In the late 80's I was working for Toyota when they announced that would take the top spot as the worlds largest auto manufacture from Ford. That took them 2 years to achieve. It seems that 30 years latter their reign is coming to an end.

"Stratospheric rise" is what is going on right now with Quantum Scape. This morning they announced that they have licensed their solid state battery for production. This will mean longer range (atleast 600km) with recharges in 10 minutes. QS has tested its batteries in cars and determined that they can retain a lot of life after thousands of rapid charges and discharges. QS stock has jumped 25% in less than an hour. I think these batteries will go into VW EVs which is great news because volumes will be high.

Battery charges . There are 365 days in a year . How was the recharging / discharging procedure conducted.? How many kilometers can be travelled in a day? Discharging batteries in actual travel is real world testing. Tests should be conducted in extremes of Hot and Cold , hills / mountainous/ near salt water oceans .

For an electric car with a WLTP range of 500-600 kilometres, this corresponds to a total mileage of more than half a million kilometres. At the same time, the cell barely aged and still had 95 percent of its capacity (or discharge energy retention) at the end of the test. The tests, which ran for several months, were carried out in PowerCo's battery laboratories in Salzgitter." PowerCo, will now manufacture these batteries under license and I believe they will go into the next Porsche EVs.

BYD is supported by the Chinese government and if the expansion of the factories will be all over the world to avoid taxes, at that moment it will be over with all the companies in the world VW, Toyota, BMW, Ford, etc. Tesla is a private company and does not have such great financial power, the difference between Tesla and BYD is that BYD makes many products, I don't know how many models it has but I think more than 10 and for all tastes and prices, Tesla like Apple has only 4 products - Model S, 3, X, Y and the ultimate Cyber which is only for America - it is clear that it needs to be diversified, for me Tesla is no. 1 in quality and technology but when it comes to money BYD becomes the leader because it has many cheap options and if he would like it with everything with European and American taxes he can sell, for example BYD Seal if he cuts the price in half now it is 47k£ with everything with taxes and half it will be 25k£ or 20k£ what will happen with Tesla and all of Europe ???? I would buy BYD for 20k£)))

OK largest - probably if you mean making the most vehicles. But BYD last quarter made 610 million when Tesla made 1.1 Billion and Toyota made 3 Billion. BYD has grown mostly by Chinese giveways yet even with those; it only makes a very thin profit. BYD makes other types of vehicles; its been around; most of the 100 Chinese maker currently cut throat racing to the bottom have never made a dime of profit. Ultimately many will go broke leaving customers without parts, service and worthess warrantees. This will be a lesson for the future; don't overbuild and provide give aways to build an industry; the makes will destroy themselves trying to survive.

With cars brand recognition is going to reset. Much of the reputation built over the decades is based on powertrain reliability and performance. All that goes away with EVs and you have to prove yourself again. There are not enough buyers with brand loyalty bridging ICE and EV for statistical significance. However, there are some, for example Toyota sold almost 10,000 BZ4x in the US last year and sales are up this year. That car should not be competitive at all and yet it does sell some.

Sam don't discount Tesla's cybercab numbers. Tesla may see themselves making multiple millions of them and counting those as part of their 20 million goal. I think that goal includes the semi as well. We will see.

SAIC with advice from GM bought most of the traditional Brit brand names for a song. MG Motor is a brand owned by Shanghai-based, state-owned carmaker SAIC Motor. They also own Austin, Morris, Healey, Wolsley amongst others.

Toyota are riding a wave and doing well with 10.6M sales last year. But the day is coming for Toyota starting with declines in China. The second biggest is VW Group with 9.2M sales last year but dropping in 2024 but not significantly. Toyota virtually have no EV future and VW are well behind. The next is GM with worldwide sales last year 6.2M and dropping. Failing in China and small EV presence. In only a few years all of these legacy companies will be having lower sales. By 2030 the legacy auto sales will be getting hammered.
