The Material I used to build this terrarium was... a 10 gallon tank, a small piece of 3/16 Acrylic, 2 small piece of 1/4 Sintra, Hinges, screws, Twist Tabs, A Lock, and 3 2" Round Vents.
My total cost for this project 26.82 however, if you choose to drill holes for ventilation and provide a pull tab instead of a lock you will save yourself $5 and your total cost will be 21.82. Another tip to save on cost is to visit your plastic supplier and purchase scrap pieces or visit a sign shop and see if they have any scrap they can give you.
To start this project, take measurements of the opening of your 10 gallon tank. each brand varies in size but this particular one the opening is 9.5 inches by 19.5 inches.
Next you need to cut your pieces to size, to save on cost the top and bottom of this lid is made of sintra and i have cut them to 9.5 inches by 3 inches each.
Place your pieces on your terrarium and measure the opening. This is an important step as you will and to leave a 1/16 gap on each side of the door to allow the acrylic to expand and contract as well as to allow you to align your door. This particular piece was cut to 9.5 inches to 13 and 3/16" inches.
Now is a good time to mark and drill your lock if youre using one, make sure to either use a spade bit or a step bit so you do not crack your acrylic.
Once you've confirmed everything fits, its time to silicone down the top and bottom. Make sure you use a healthy amount of Silicone and you use a silicone that specifically says it sticks to plastic. Dont worry about extra silicone, it comes off easily after it dries. Glue the lip of the aquarium as well as the inside edge to make it water tight. after you have siliconed it, use a heavy book to hold it in place for 24 hours to cure.
now we need to think of ventilation. I used 3 2" round vents for this enclosure, however, to save a few dollars you can just drill a bunch of holes. Make sure you measure twice and drill once to make sure the screens are even. Then insert your screen and attach your twist tabs and locking mechanism.
The last step is to clean youre enclosure and remove the protective film on the door.
And there you have it, how to make a $25 arboreal terrarium.

guys , be practical. you can’t convert a 10 gal tank without at least using some power tools. don’t give this guy shit because you guys think “of i can totally make this without a drill” like really and drills are only like 20-30 dollars.

You would probably had to do thin pieces of Sintra down the sides rather then on the top and bottom. The locks would be another story, you could see if the fit was tight enough and add knobs that have a latch, if not you might have to use a piece of Sintra down the center for the doors to connect and shut on.

izzy perkins baby cresties yes. But it’s not encouraged to have such a small tank. (Unless specifically needed like with baby cresties)

Dani Foucault Ethridge doesnt matter, baby creasties are an animal. green anoles and small feeder lizards work perfectly fine. he didn’t say it was a forever home, so many baby reptiles can do just fine. :)

Dani Foucault Ethridge to add onto that, some people just like the look if aboral tanks without putting anything in them either. :)

+epiclids haha acrylic and Sinatra can be cut with an exact knife! You will need at least a cheap drill though

Exactly. I get that the guy is trying to help but folks shouldn't assume that you have all these tools on hand.

Jordan Nicole idk if it was in April. They did already have one I think? They typically do it twice a year or something like that. I saw it on a comment Petco made on their Facebook photo. If I could insert the screenshot for you I would.

If you need to be doing enclosures on the cheap then you probably shouldn’t be purchasing the animal that goes inside. So..... Not to mention power tools aren’t exactly that expensive and are a reusable usually one time purchase. Also there sometimes just isn’t a way to make these enclosures without power tools 🤷🏻‍♂️ tired of seeing people always complain about not having power tools. Ok and? Buy some or get over it and just use a plastic tub.

Skylark Lee how is the equipment expensive? can easily cut the acrylic with a xacto blade or utility knife. only thing you would need is a drill. which has unlimited number of uses after this project. cost $15 at harbor freight. really not expensive at all if you budget. just another cry baby on a great tutorial.
