I was really excited about the shell but than Watched DIYPAPI video on Jsaux back plate and that pushed me away. I watched your thermal paste video and this one. Totally convinced me to buy it now especially with temps being nice with the thermal paste and backplate paired! SUBBED FOR SURE! I’m also in NJ

you can also cut out a rectangular hole on cases like the spigen tpu grip case, then add the universal mount from the deckmate and use its kickstand attachment.

This is brilliant. I've been looking for a less expensive case with transparency and grips without the plastic cover I won't use that also protects the bumper buttons because I've seen people that have dropped the steam deck, break the bumper buttons off the main board internationally. And this one has a protection for that. And with kickstand on the left makes modification perfect. I'm considering making a thin copper passive cooler to place on the plate and if I cut it to shape I could glue it to the shape of the cutout on the case.

yeah, i was looking for a low profile heatsink of sorts to fit on the back of the plate. Maybe a load of the little PI ones or similar. A copper sink thats fairly discreet would look the business though :)

In the end I had to use a dremel type of tool with tool I used at first was making an nice groove so I did get a good circle to add the GameSir F9 fan and modcase together but without a dremel it would have taken all day. I used masking tape to avoid scratching all nearby surfaces and the kickstand I have moved to the righthand side of the modcase with silicone tape and it works great. I now have the F9 fan and modcase kit fan available to mount. I am finishing it all up this weekend, I will have two fans and kickstand on the back. So the Modelcraft was a good idea until I found the Jsaux modcase was a very strong and dense plastic. Lucky I still had the kit from Maplin from more than a decade ago that is 18 volts. I am wondering if the clear backplate instead of the brown clear we have will be even better when viewing from inside a case. But the Jsaux modcase mod I have done I will submit tomorrow into the competition and hope they take note of what I changed and make an official version of that and maybe just maybe send me a free revised design before everyone gets one. No one else has done the modcase mod ;) Polishing points 422 from Dremel for plastics is what I will be using to finish off the cut I made I hope to make it super smooth to almost look out of factory. I just need to learn about what compound to use Dremel sell one but it seems one type fits all yet I've seen complete sets of different blocks. Thank goodness for dremels because by hand this would have taken far too long.

You get my vote for mentioning maplin 😁

They could really do an expensive finned box with a bi-material thermal driven thin film fan(something like a piezoelectric fan, but just skip the entire electric part and use a waste heat sink instead to do self regulation)in the middle of it to cool that region of the deck.

Just got around to initial testing of cutting a case without a dremal and without sandpaper. I found the Modelcraft PKN4150/S Plastic Cutter Scriber Tool worked perfectly when test cutting an old but never used phone case. I was able to cut away and then smooth out the cut all with the same blade. fingers crossed the phone case I tested on will be as quick and easy as the Jsaux modcase that I want to cut out. If I find a way to setup a camera on an arm above I will timelapse the cutting. Jsaux really do need to keep customers in the loop with any revisions as they change and develop products, much in the same way they responded to feedback on the backplates branding now having being removed after criticism.

Hey NJ would love to see a video covering the paddles being separated for mix and match options. I literally had this same idea with this same case and cracked up laughing when I saw you beat me to it 😂 love your content and appreciate you!

Hey dude, thanks very much! I did cover how to separate the back grips in the previous video and talk about their different profiles etc, have a look :) although its super easy to do with a craft knife, there is no real trick to it, just score it deeply and then they'll snap off cleanly. Im still running this particular config and really like it!

I am actually glad now that I have four cases. I have this exact same case you cut, two jsaux cases and the modcase as well. Jsaux sent an upgraded case to me so thats why I have four. Might have to dig out my old dremmel I dont know where I put it but I used it to cut my xbox 360 case a long long time ago. Jsaux should have put a kickstand on the right and left a pop out plate that can remain in place and push out if need be whether its on a hinge or just a simple push in push out solution on it's modcase. I wonder if they will send out a basic base case upgrade for free in the future to everyone who purchased the modcase and backplate together. if the plate is covered by the case does it result in higher temperatures or is it just to use the fan over that location?

the only problem with this case is that it is not dockable. when the hidge is down it does not fit to the dock's space. but i have this case it is brilliant, you can game and have the deck standing on that metal hinge without worrying.

So what happens if you use the first case, but with the case inlets directly over the Deck's fan inlet covered? Possibly even all the case inlets except those over the aluminium plate? You're going to be redirecting the incoming air over the plate, but also prewarming the fan's intake ... hard to guess how that balances out.

I'm wondering if you can pull a few more degrees by adding a heatsink to that plate, smoothed a bit so you don't catch your fingers on it. Maybe even making a cover that incorporates their powered fan add-on but has it drawing the air over a heatsink. Need to get a 3d printer, to try that myself lol. Looks good though.

ive actually done exactly this with some small Pi heatsinks :) looks cool too and very low profile. I might upload a short video on it..

Ok thats cool, but lets be real... Does that open hole on the case realy helps that mutch? Part of having the aluminium plate is that the inicial heat spread into the aluminium and takes longer for the Deck to get Hot, when that point arives the only solution is to use something to cool the plate. That i understand! But does that hole on the back realy makes mutch diference? For 1 side, if it does, it help to get the air, in the other side it helps to get your fingers burned. Instead of this i think i prefer to cut a hole between the jsaux stand mount support and use some pads to toutch throw that hole to "link" into the aluminium stand. This way you will get the hole covered by the stand and you get extra aluminium to cool off. The jsaux mod case is not that transparent on the back but im fine with it, i bought the transparent back plate for the custom buttons and the aluminium plate, not to mutch for the looks becouse, like you, i like the bulky feel with the cases. The only thing i get against the jsaux mod case is that is not compatible with the blue stick custom buttons from his jsaux transparent back plate

Id really like to see the spiegen case on the jsaux back plate, I know it defeats the point but I still like to see it if you have it please 🙏
@NJ-Tech

I dont have the Spiegen case unfortunately but i can see from the design it will contact and insulate the alu plate and therefore will increase the thermals by least by 5 degrees. Of course, there is nothing to stop you cutting out that section the way i have in this video with that, or any case.

@@NJ-Tech so I know the whole point of the aluminium heat plate is to give us more options when it comes to the cooling of the deck. Do you think If I run a cover over the Jsaux back plate I’ll get worse thermals then the original stock ( no mods or anything ) backplate, or just that my performance will be 5 or so degrees worse then your multiple improvements? Just curious to see your thoughts. Thanks bro keen to see more SD content from you in the future
