I've just made my tests with this exact setup playing kenshi all maxed out and no tpu or gpu limit: Stock: 80⁰C (RPM FANS 5000-6000) TFX paste: 75⁰C (RPM FANS 4200) TFX + JSAUX Backplate: 70-72⁰C (RPM FANS 3500) TFX + JSAUX + Cooler: 63⁰C (FANS RPM 2600) That being said, i think the best upgrade its the thermal paste too, the backplate its not bad and the cooler its just and overkill, but useful when docked.

@@cow77cow maybe you applied too much or not enough, maybe you got some air bubbles trapped. This one is very thick and i recommend applying it evenly on the dye with a spatula to obtain a thin layer. Hope this helps

I really love my clear case. I've noticed that the plastic of the JSAUX case feels different to the stock plastic, and to me feels more solid and premium. The only downside is that it has some sharp corners right by the L1 and R1 buttons but I imagine they will smooth over with time (or some very gentle filing)

I got one of these fans, my results are; For high graphic AAA titles, temps run around 74c. For me this is around 10°c less. And the fan runs a third less speed. For medium games with good graphics, get up to 40°c - 50°c with almost no fan. For lower 2d games or older titles I'm seeing 40°c with no fan. This only works hough if you attach the cooler to the aluminium heatsink on the case for around 10 mins before loading a game. This gives it time to cool everything down and keep it there.... if you have a hot system it can't work enough to lower it back down again. You might also want to check you're usb has enough voltage to power it fully. I'm really happy with mine, and when my deck it docked I just leave it on and the cooler on.

Hi I would like to ask a question, Since you're using a jsaux backplate, I am planning to get it also for the cooling and back buttons however, I want to put my spigen case. Is it a good option to use a case on that backplate? will the heat be still released on the back plate? Can I also use a blackshark cooler with my case on it and put a magnetic sticker like you did on the back plate metal but instead of directly in the metal, i would like to stick into my case. Thank you for the response.
@NJ-Tech
@NJ-Tech Жыл бұрын
Thats a great question, and indeed one im looking at myself because i really prefer running a case on my deck for the protection and feel. In short, covering the metal back plate will not help the thermals, though it certainly wont get hot enough to melt plastic, so you can cover it but it wont run as cool. There is a case that has an air gap and vents on the back which is more suitable, and im currently modding another case to have an opening for the backplate. I think i will do another video on this subject. In terms of the magnet, it will unlikely work through the platstic and again, the value of doing so with a layer of thick plastic between the cooler and the metal plate will likely do nothing for thermals, as you would now have a pretty effective insulation layer in the way. Im pretty sure unless that magnet was very stong it wouldnt stick either.

@NJ Tech Have you tried, or could You try to test passive cooling of steamdeck. This mod will help temps without requirments to carry and power fan. What do You think?
@NJ-Tech
@NJ-Tech Жыл бұрын
im actually testing a load of low profile copper heatsinks intended for a Pi but pushed together to form one heatsink. Im still getting the data together but so far its not actually making much difference to performance, however those heatsinks do make it way cooler to touch, so thats a positive. I think along with the TFX repaste this is the best possible passive solution so far. A larger copper block would take a little longer to heat up but once hot it wouls still be uncomfortable to hold, whereas the minisinks together never feel very hot to touch at all.

what is your fan rpm tho? another reviewer notes louder fan higher rpm because the cooler pad is blocking air flow. sounds bad what are your thoughts?
@NJ-Tech
@NJ-Tech Жыл бұрын
the fan RPM is only a concern to me when it gets loud, and i dont notice it screaming at all, so i dont really think beyond it. In terms of 'blocking airflow" the channel on the back plate does not have and exit, therefore i fail to see how air can move at all in that space. From my testing which i put up on screen you can see the differences achieved across the same test. Really i think the cooler is a bit of a gimmick, just because its not practical. The back plate does something but not essential eiher and you always have the option to remove the thermal pad and have it more like stock if you wish. Ther far better gain comes from the TFX paste upgrade which i do think is worth your time.

@@NJ-Tech The problem with the test is that when you attach the additional fan on the back the Deck dynamically adjusts the internal fans rpm. A tool called "fantastic" you can use with the "Decky loader" would give you the option to lock the rpm, like that you can see the actual difference it makes with and without the cooler attached on the back, otherwise the decks internal fan will turn much slower with the external cooler attached and the result will shift which changes the outcome of the temps!
@NJ-Tech
@NJ-Tech Жыл бұрын
@Lupus Worax yes for sure, much more accurate way to test, but the fan also wasn't running at a fixed rpm before the mods and with the fans at full rpm and gpu pegged the temps were 15 degrees higher so the tests are definitely valid enough, if not as scientific as your suggestion.
