Great video. I had a 1970 MIdnight blue 280SE. I owned it for 35 years and never finished restoring it! I now have a 2003 CL600 twin turbo V12 that has been incredibly reliable. The Jaguar V12 was indeed two six-cylinder engines combined as one since Jaguar only had the straight six to begin with. The V12 from Mercedes was a purpose-built V12. This '93 600 SEL is so cool. I have lust in my heart!

Beautiful car. I've got a 1992 600SEL with the same two-tone blue exterior, mine has the blue interior though. 125k miles on it. The engine is in great shape but the transmission went out a while ago. I plan on getting it rebuilt this spring. It also needs a main engine wiring harness, not the upper engine/injection harness that is usually already done and easy to replace, but the huge body-mounted harness that is reportedly a huge job to replace. Not looking forward to that one.

Great Video! I have a 96' with 129K on it. Most important thing to note is that all W140 models up to the 1995 model year used the biodegradable wiring harness. With further use this WILL 100% become an issue with this car...and you can no longer buy them from the Mercedes Benz, which means the car will have to be rewired by hand, which is a multi-thousand dollar repair. Generally we never buy them regardless of how nice they are unless this fix was done. Also the horse power on the motor was 389hp NOT 322hp. With full fuel enrichment (a feature that could be turned on/off with a scan tool) 402hp - 408hp.

There are guys that sell the wiring harnesses pre-made so you don't have to rewire the car by hand.

I would love to know who they are. I have not known/ found anyone who can make or supply a W140 harness for more than 12 years.

Keep in mind that even if you can find someone that has a harness or the set of connectors to make one it's still a $15,000+ fix (2002 pricing). The whole car has to be taken apart...the door panels, the seats, the carpets, the headliner, the trunk liner, the center console, most of the dashboard, and the top of the motor. It's a horrific job.The biggest issue is when it starts the car will start blowing out fuses and circuit boards and modules... they are mostly not available either. @@woodsandbarclay

The last of the Benz lineage I'd own. Only two exceptions are a 99 C43 and 01/02 E55. In the Northeast we did see a few 140s every spring with "My ac doesn't blow cold" complaints. We knew what the inevitable problem was but we always recharged them with dye and told him to come back. Sure enough, the glow of dye right at the evaporator drain. Always a fun project... The soft close pump was also common. Occasionally they would push transmission fluid up the harness and into the trans control module. Still a car I'd own because I know to have a separate bank account for it lol. I believe the correct ratings are 389hp and 420 lb-ft

Yes those are the correct horsepower ratings actually corrected myself in a later video you can see all the videos on the website. The beautiful thing about this car is the AC evaporator has already been replaced!!!!

@@woodsandbarclay Good because the 600 has a separate smaller evaporator for the rear, although I don't remember if it was in the 93 or came a year or two later. Not like that made doing it in the 500 a cake walk in comparison 🤣

nice! got driven this beast sometime back in 1997, it was an VIP owned 1995 S600L V12 newfacelift, what I can say is, totally awesome!! imagine how Quite it was when ur inside it and its extremely luxury back in 90’s… as mostly people says, the W140 S-Class was over engineered! back then, an brand new W140 S600L V12 in my country cost rm1.2 million, its like USD$480k back then… it was an fully imported brand new from Germany, our local production model only has S280 and S320L… no sunroof for both CKD cars

The complaint about the w140 was its size. The rear deck pegs - which rise when in reverse - was a running change after so many complaints.

I agree 100%! However I do love the 98 and 99 turbo diesel e300 and I do have a soft spot for the 2005 2006 E320 CDI common rail Diesel. But yes I totally get what you're saying.

No it's not that expensive at all. Probably cheaper than a fully loaded modern Honda Accord. Do they even still make Honda accords hahaha. Pricing is on the website.

Yes but that has been taken care of on this car. Most of these cars that are still on the road today have already had the issue taken care of.

That was very common for the original owners to do that I see it in classic Mercedes all the time. I do however have the original radio and it comes with the car.
