71 year old Army here. Please keep in mind that this is my own opinion. Music is universal beyond borders. I do not like Kpop because it all sounds the same to me. That is what happens when it is penned in by a border. BTS and Psy were my first and only intro to Kpop. Later I heard other groups and turned them off. I felt they did not compare. Songwriters/composers send their songs to well known artists nonstop. Many famous artists are not songwriters. Jung Kook is different. He has plenty of songwriting credits, however I don't think he had the time to create his own large body of music for an album before the enlistment deadline they have set. Also, he admires the style of so many different artists, and it seems natural for him to use the work of songwriters he likes. Childish jealous haters are always looking for a way to bring a talented and successful artist down. We must support JK regardless of our own hang-ups. It's part of being an adult and it's part of being Army. 💜

He is not selling out…. He is making connections. He is still young he can write his songs later but now he is making the most of all opportunities offered to him. JungKook wants to try different genres and the best way to do it is collaborating with his favorite artists. Not every artist can have this opportunity. I am so happy for him. Congrats JungKook and good luck in all your future endeavors.

Thank you for this! I am so tired of people dragging JK over the stupidest things. JK is a great performer and an even better vocalist. I want him to fulfil all his dreams and sing all the genres, and get credit for his craft. He has studied english so hard, I can't hear any kind of an accent on the past 3 songs that are out. He deservers praise and credit, not dragging and being torn down. If you don't like what he is doing go find someone else to follow.

I think it's great that he's wanting to experience other artists writing, producing and just overall artistry. Artists learn from each other and as pointed out, he's very young still, and to have such an open mind to not only other artists vision, but other artists from different countries. I think he still has control, he could and would say "no" if he didn't want to do the song(s). I think this is a great learning time for him and applaud him for his willingness and open mind to experiences. I don't think you grow by only working with the same people over and over, you grow by working with others, interacting with others. I've heard a lot of bad things about JK not writing, producing, heard a lot of hate on Bang PD/HYBE/Big Hit, but I just think that no matter what some artists/people do, it will never be enough for those who are looking for fault in everything. The saying, if you are looking for bad/fault, you will surely find it. Let BTS as soloist grow, let them experience different things, let them do their projects in their own way without comparing to each other or other artists. Jungkook is not selling out. He is so busy with his travel schedule, when would he ever have time to compose music?? He is also running out of time before he enters the military, so his "creative" time is truly very limited. Because he wants to fulfill the needs of his millions of fans' demand for an album, he is complying in the best and fastest way humanly possible. He is a beautiful, young man and I wish people would just enjoy what he does and stop the criticism. By the way, has anyone noticed that there is never a bad photo of him anywhere? Talk about perfection. He is all that!

I enjoyed your comments. I agree that many dislike JK, but have come to realize that some of them identify as Army. He elicits resentment from people the world over for various reasons. An alleged Army posted that they doubt this album will represent Jungkook, since he didn't produce or write any of the songs. I feel differently. The song titles remind me of JK's journey (Closer to You, Please Don't Change, Standing Next to You, Shot Glass of Tears, Too Sad to Dance, Seven) and may reflect his feelings about Army, BTS, K-pop, fame or personal desires. We'll know once we hear them. BTS is praised globally for writing songs that resonate with people universally. Is it not reasonable that other writers can do the same. If 10 songs he receives perfectly convey his feelings, why reject them. A man renowned for vocalizing songs in Korean and Japanese, now has a chance to show his skillful interpretation of songs written in English. JK is the most sought after vocalist, because he can take any song, in any language and convey the writers/composer/producers vision of how that song should sound. Very few vocalist alive can do this, which is why people call him a genius. Those focused on picking him apart probably know this, but refuse to accept it. Jungkook is among a handful of vocalist in our lifetime with this level of talent. We accept when athletes, classical musician and ballet dancers are the best, but we can't fathom it would be true of a K-pop vocalist. How odd. Jungkook is the best male vocalist and performer alive today and is among the best I've seen in 60+ years. I don't mean the best technical singer since they differ. He keeps improving with each performance and should continue doing so for decades more. Jungkook is already one of the most popular artists in the world, not just in BTS or K-pop. The West has accepted him, appreciate his talent and desire to work with him well into the future. If fans expect their favorite to compete with him, they will remain disappointed. If they allow their favorite to find his or her own level of success, they can find joy in that artists success. It's each fans choice, what they'll decide.

The BTS members have been getting hate since day one, when RM and SUGA were criticized for selling out to the mainstream by the other underground rappers. (Who I bet would have followed the same path if given the opportunity) These men get criticized for EVERY SINGLE STEP they take! Let them do what they want, they are talented artists who know what they are doing and are no one’s puppet. None of them have ever “sold out” and JK isn’t either. If someone is not a fan of BTS they should support their own groups, not tear down anyone else’s success. I also feel like a lot of this hate on social media comes from very young or immature fans. I always love your thoughtful, informed and reasonable take on these issues. Those who are not fans of BTS will always have their opinions. For the fans, as you said, we may not love every single piece of music released by the members or the group as a whole. But in it's totality, their musical prowess and their humanity is what attracted us enough to become and remain Army! And we all need to remember that Jungkook will be Jungkook! He's always been determined and fearless.

First, he chose English because he wanted to go mainstream, and English is not his native language. So obviously he has to get people to do it. He's been singing English covers for eternity. Thank you for talking sensibly and realistically! Personally, I am rooting for Jung Kook, and the other members of BTS as well. I'm proud of Jung Kook for pushing the boundaries. He deserves to be recognized globally, not just in Korea. Even his band mates call him a musical genius! Maybe I see things differently than some because I'm one of those "westerners" in the U.S. That said, I don't listen to much mainstream music; mostly I stream BTS and one or two other modern artists, and then some old-school artists (I'm in my 60's). I am actually happy that there are a number of songs on the upcoming JK album that are just Jung Kook singing. It's his beautiful vocals and versatility that I love.

Every Army knows that jungkook wants to do a lot of things but sometimes he does not follow through, he is an introvert , does not like the spotlight so much, he likes to just chill and enjoy life, he do all this because he loves the ARMY but whatever everyone says he knows himself and he is our Golden maknae. The whole "do I like it" section! I couldn't agree more. I kinda expect that I won't love every single thing, especially when there are collaborations. I avoid a lot of popular music so it's unavoidable that crossing over into that won't be to my tastes. But it doesn't mean I don't love and support him/them as artists. I can just not listen to what I don't like and continue to support what I do. (So I'll listen to Seven, but skip Latto's verse for example. 😅) And he will continue to be successful reaching for his goals as he chooses. That's completely fine. 💜 But the whole idea that he's selling out because he's pursuing exactly what he has always said is his goal is laughable. Thank you for this video, i agree with you, i would have love to see jk write his own song in his first album. But since i love his voice it doesnt matter. Haters will always hate but for those ARMYs who felt uncomfortable that jk doesnt have any writing credits nor any song in korean in his album please hear me out. Each BTS members have a diff reason for releasing an album. JHope said he wanted to compose songs that are diff from his previous releases. His first album is mostly vibrant while the second has a bit darker tone. Jin just wanted a song he can say "see you later" to army. RM's album contains the feelings of his twenties. Jimin wanted to share his inner thoughts particularly during the pandemic. V wanted to sing songs that are diff from BTS songs. JK just wanted to challenge his voice and see the things it can do. Maybe he wanted to try if he can do pop music using his own songs and not just do covers. He has been a fan of pop music for a long time. Chapter 2 is that time for him to realize that. Now, from JHope to Jimin their concept is about their inner thoughts and feelings so its just right that they do the lyrics themselves. Here is the thing V did not write any of his song but he never get any hate for that. Some may say, at least he sung part in Korean. Since JKs songs are doing well in the charts he got the hate. So you were right to say that haters are hating because he is succeeding and their favs are not. With the release of his new album, watch out for more hate. I just like the way JK is handling the negativity. Lets just all go with the flow and enjoy what they had to offer. With JK’s pending military enlistment, it would make sense for him to work with producers who already have some songs written that JK can choose from and tailor to his liking. This would shorten the time needed to finish the album before he enlists. I imagine it would take much longer for him to write his own songs, this would not work within the timeframe if they all want to complete those military duty by the end of 2025. Plus,JK as a consumer of music himself likes western music. I think it would be a boon for him to work with artists he likes and just have fun with it 😊

I for one do not care if an artist writes their own music. Some people are great writers and love to compose songs. Some artists like to see what songs are already made and put their own " sound' to that piece of music. It is the artist's voice, tone, and vibe that brings the song to life and makes it a success. JK has never struck me as the type to want to sit down and write a song from beginning to end. He can do what he loves but give credit where it is due.

Some of the most famous artists from all over the world have recorded songs that they have not written. Jungkook has had a Western fanbase for almost a decade already. I am so proud of Jungkook he is actually breaking barriers; his success is soooooooooo deserved he has worked so hard for this moment.

Jungkook has always been a perfectionist to the point of deleting songs he has been working on. If he committed to releasing a full album before the end of the year, it's very possible that he didn't have enough material ready or couldn't create the vibe he was looking for. Choosing songs that fit his voice and form a cohesive album is also a skill and is very different from being handed songs that he is told by management to sing. It's still part of the creative process. In any case, we already know he can write. This time, he's going to take songs and make them his own. Think Aretha and Natural Woman, Chain of Fools, I Say a Little Prayer, Respect...My point is not to compare the two artists (because I won't compare Aretha Franklin to anyone), but to point out that Aretha was a terrific songwriter, yet she did not write some of her most iconic hits. She knew how to choose and sing a song, and no one can say sh!t about it. So really, this is more about antis using ARMY's words about Bangtan's creative control against JK, BTS and ARMY in an attempt to erase BTS's success. It's silly.

Jungkook, at least once, said he's not good at writing lyrics. So he puts hard work into all the many things he's really, really good at!!!

He relaxed for the first time ever before enlistment and chose to release an album with songs he picked. It would be successful even if he did write it because it would still be in his personal musical taste that fits a global audience naturally. He's grown up as a world traveler who embraced other cultures, sometimes more than members of his own already global group. People are mad because others who were sticking to kpop standard are now trying to appeal to the global market and the results haven't been at the same level as him. I respect that he's not even trying to please everyone because it's just not possible.

IMO, writing his own lyrics does not make a successful singer, it is not everything, JK has already proven his talent in writing his own songs. If he has chosen to sing another composer's lyrics, he has done a great job giving the lyrics life and success.

This is exactly what I am talking about people! Like, to be honest, I didn't like either of the songs Jungkook has released so far. It's just not my preference. I prefer more melodic, slow, and meaningful songs, and Seven and 3D aren't those types. But I listened to it and when I realized that I didn't like it, I just stopped listening. It's as simple as that. And for any artist, (including BTS) charting and song reach are important no matter how genuine they are. The other BTS members, for their solo works, just didn't give 1st preference to those things. I mean Joon himself said in Suchwita that if he said he didn't think charting is important that would be a lie. So I don't think it is wrong for Jungkook to put charting first while the others didn't. That just makes no sense. Everyone had their own goal and Jungkook had his too and he is doing a great job accomplishing it. This is their solo era, where they are doing things they can't do as a BTS member and wouldn't fit their image. Just because JK's goal is more westernized doesn't mean it is wrong. Like he was enjoying his vacation and wasn't even planning on releasing an album so if he liked a song he received and released it, he could do it, right? Like who would not accept something delivered on a "Golden" platter? And about those jealous fans from other fandoms, I don't even know why they are being salty about BTS' success. Like dude, when BTS exploded globally they didn't have anyone to guide them and they were overwhelmed because of it but now those other groups have at least some sort of guidance or map or whatever. I think he's doing it to prove a Korean can break into western music industry. JK has said outloud he wants to become king of POP. this is the best way to do it. He loves to sing, period. Plus he is helping BTS and other new artists introduction, ( if you will), to Asian music fans.

In my opinion JK is the king of covers. He always makes ghe song his own when he covers them and so i love to see him sing his own english songs and would be intereating to see western artists to cover his songs. I believe that he will not sing a song if he didnt like it and bighit would not force him to sing something he didnt like. He also said he trusts his instict that army will like his songs. I don't understand the hate and criticism that Jungkook is getting...Most of the bts songs have been written or produced by RM and SUGA, so technically, the other members have always been getting the songs and they sing it...I don't see even a single comment hating or criticizing V, he also didn't write or produce his own songs...Then, didn't you love Layover??? I did, I even bought the album...But why so much biasness?? Maybe because his songs were in Korean and Jk's in English...Whenever they go and sing an English song, it's like hell broke loose lol...I remember when the released Dynamite...The most hate came from International fans only because they stated that they love BTS because they are so different from western artists and singing in English and releasing pop songs is like them loosing their flavor...Most of the fans see releasing pop songs and English songs as being westernized but it is not...He doesn't want any western validation...English is not just spoken in America...Most of the world does...His songs are a bop...I think this hate and criticism is mostly coming from solo stans since they got a probable "reason" to his success...Mind you, not all English songs released by an American artist are popular...Why??? Not all songs blow up like Dynamite...Why??? Because even if the song is funky and pop, still the singer matters a lot...No, I don't think any other singer would be able to sing Seven and 3D in the same way Jungkook did...He has his own unique style and charisma that is uncomparable...Just because he likes Pop music and wants to do that type of music...It doesn't mean he is not the same artist anymore...We love BTS not just because of their music but also because of their personalities...Really disrespectful to say that he is not the same Jungkook anymore just because he decides to release English songs...

Actually, this is an area I had looked into years before. Why? Much before BTS started releasing English songs I did so to understand the uncontrollable influence they would have in my personal life (for the good), during extremely dark and gory times. What I concluded was Artistry. That aspect made all the more sense when I went onto research on BTS's incomparable impact (not by numbers). Most just do not know how to articulate it so they resort to say it's the lyrics to then feel dumbfounded when asked about any Korean song that isn't fully written by BTS members. While the very work of lyricism by BTS in itself is phenomenal in my opinion (I work in the field of psychology and to articulate humanistic ways in its rawest essence is not a piece of cake) it is also the storytelling, the intent, the unabashed admission towards greed and more. It is not one bit pretentious and seems rooted even as the float in popularity. Why? Because their artistic intention is clear. Besides the roots of BTS are not being bound to boxes made by the social. To not have to resort to some godly righteousness. To be what they want. And that's exactly what JK is doing. If anything he is remarkably artistically driven for his age!

This journey just start for JK for western style market. He just want to challenge him self in any types music genres. Improving his english...more easier when you learn from singing. Every member has different taste of they own music as an individual and as a group. As a non western artis He also observing how the western market can accept his works.

sincerely I'm not into pop music especially the western kind that's sexually focused or just fun but not deep. its never been my style. i think JK is being smart because his look and style are the most obvious for western success. he's a great singer and performer and he's a great dancer and is super good looking. so if any member could do an English album on American soil and make it work its JK. i don't know if this will affect BTS as a whole positively as far as the western market, because i know scooter doesn't like groups and I'm sure his target to work with as opposed to any member was JK. and although JK has had some writing credits in BTS most songs also had co writers i believe. but that's neither here nor there. he's an amazing artist and i hope that he stays humble even though he seems to be doing better than any BTS member at this point. and dont get me wrong i love JK and all 7 members. and i stream for them all. i do give a little extra to the rap line since i feel they really only have army support as opposed to our vocal line which may appeal more to the casual listener and the GP.

JK just want to sing songs that can challenge his voice. Was it his fault if he wants to do mainstream and the others dont? At this point the problem is not S. Braun or Bang PD, its ARMYs who have created an image of BTS in their mind that they should follow like a template. Lastly dont blame the creator of the video, she did a good job explaining the issue. If it still made you hate jk, thats on you. I noticed some of the comments came fr new armys who only knew 2 songs JK created, who believe V wrote magic shop. I suggest you all watch all BTS documentaries and their lives for you to know more about your bias.

I don’t think JK was planning on releasing an album, it was last minute. He was enjoying not working. Of course, I would have love to see him write, to get a sense of his flavour; he is still growing and learning and having fun. Let him have fun for now.

This up coming album shouldn't really exist as he never really planned to make this album. Had Bang PD and Scooter Braun not found these songs, and had he not liked them there would be no album. So had he more time, he would definitely have written more. Same with Taehyung, he wrote a lot for his album Layover but didn't like what he had written so he changed to the songs he has now. I think as time goes on, they will grow more in their confidence when it comes to writing solo songs for themselves. Because the rap line make it look so easy, when in actual fact it's not.

Onl;y jungkook can sing seven and 3D it's his genre, not other memebers can sing it. other bts members solos should really just stop talking crap nad nonsense they don't make sense. just sht up. western producers and singers want to work with him cs he can do it. his voice is made for US pop and rnb music industry. he's blessed and gifted to have such beautiful and skilled vocals. he is lucky to ahve been born that way, others are not. that's life. it;s fair. it's not his fault.. jungkook's beautifu; vocals will carry his songs. people don't really about the songwriters and producers. it's the singer and his voice that's important. it's the sing's voice that matters. people don;t care who wrote the song. Thanks for such a clear and analytical response to the negative comments. JK has hundreds of songs sent to him from around the world, he is choosing songs he likes and gives him a vocal challenge. JK is breaking down barriers globally and I think that is great for all entertainers. BTS has opened doors for others and their attitude sets an example for all. I support other artists globally as I love listening to talented musicians - I don't care if I don't understand the language, I can read lyrics. Its such a shame that petty small minded peoople will take any opportunity to complain, such a negative emotion, why not just sit back and enjoy - or ignore if you prefer.

Bottom line is, you can give a million songs to any singer in whatever language, but if that singer is not good enough or does not know how to sing to deliver a particular song or genre, it will never work out no matter how good the lyrics are. In his case JK is an amazing singer, dancer, performer and an amazing human being that deserves all the success coming his way and there's absolutely nothing haters and or antis can do about it. In episode 19 of Suchwita Suga said "So I give this advice to artists who want to start their solo careers, go all the way in showing your colors or do something really popular. There is no middle ground." Who do you think he was giving advice to? Jimin and V went with the first option and Jungkook is going with the second. Jungkook said that he wants to be cooler and sexy and he is going for broke here. He is doing what he wants and taking advantage of the fact that he is a hot property right now and can collaborate with just about anyone he would like. After the FIFA World Cup his name recognition is more global then ever. I'm no fan of Scooter Braun but he has the connections to make this happen and make them all a lot of money. You go JK! He is making sure that he will be remembered while he is in the military.

Why does a so called fan thinks he has the right to hate his favorite artist when he doesn’t perform, talk or has not an opinion to be expected or doesn’t suit. The same for the opponents. Industry standard for pop. So they can eat it. He may not be into writing currently. He faced a lot of pressure no doubt. He couldnt write all those songs by himself. Yes, for example, Suga wrote and produced his own stuff but his album took years or longer and he couldnt come up with the amount content JK has in this album. Its hard to strike a balance. You must identify what “Writing Credit” means. Anyone who provides a word, a sound, or an idea towards a song is allocated writing credit. It doesn’t mean that they wrote the whole song😌

Bang PD said JK had no desire to release a solo album. Scooter Braun wanted him to do this project and put this project together. So Scooter brought these people to meet JK and Bang PD. I heard these words directly from Bang’s mouth during a recent interview. This is not here say.

He was enjoying being on break after working his ass off for years. He only decided after finding the song Seven to start doing music again. I think he’s doing this album for ARMY’s. It would be hard for him to write his own music in the amount of time he had between Seven and his album release. People need to leave him alone. Yes, I would be stoked if he chose to write some, but I am happy with any music he chooses to release. He is already so successful in ever aspect so haters can just sit back down!

Well you are partially right on your view, yes people are just hating for the sake of it, but at the same time we all know that if he wanted to write his songs he would, as you said, he chose not to, and some see that as a easy way? Yes, some do. Cause we all know he is a hell of a songwriter he is amazing, so why he choose to not show himself in his first album? Every member decided to give us a glimpse into their personal universe tru their first album wether we like it or not, it was their voice and their history, and yes I’m a little disappointed to not be able to share that with jk first album, cause he didn’t write it, to me it takes the magic that I got when Still with you, Decalcomania and many songs that he did that gave me a glimpse of his soul. But if he is choosing this path to go for success first wether then truth that his choice so, like it or not it’s gonna be a hit maker because it’s jk. The boy is growing, he is the one that has to deal with his choices, the songs he being doing aren’t my cup of tea, but that doesn’t mean that one should hate on it, I’m just disappointed on how the label is managing all this. Cause if any has follow how the industry works I’m actually worried sometimes about him. But hey, congrats on his album. It’s not easy.

HA! JK not intendng to put out an album proves my totally made up perspective that I used to make myself feel better! I'm looking at these songs as JK taking a musical break. They're not vocally challenging for him. He didn't have to break his back to write them, etc. They're just fun & appease ARMY's need for music from him before enlistment. I'm on a similar page as you with the songs. I don't think the songs are bad. I would just prefer they not be so commercial. (And I'm side-eyeing his judgement on collab choices.) I'm actually waiting to buy the album until I can hear the full album to see if I want to spend the money. Am I disappointed? Absolutely. Am I going to stop supporting JK & BTS? No. I can wait until he's finished with his F boy phase. It's been my experience that every man has one. JK is just a few years later than usual. 😂😂

If someone is being successful and wants to conquer the world in music they hate it. he is just testing global world out there but they hate it. JK is very talented and I think for some they wanted to see him achieve these goals and validation without the collaborations and some see his current path as conforming to “western industry” requirements to be successful. It could also be seen as a very strategic move, introducing him to other fanbase and gaining new fans. Several of his songs under BTS are my favorite so I do hope to see more of his own work in the future

JK stated that he wants to push his musical limits, and he wants to do it NOW, before military conscription. So time constraint might explain him using English lyrics written by others. Besides, he is not fluent enough yet to write his own lyrics in English at this time.

I do feel that being that because Hybe has contracts with certain music labels in the industry, they need to release a certain number of records per year. I feel that has landed on JK's shoulders to fulfill due to his age, versatility and his appeal to a wider audience. I do look forward to JK eventually getting the chance to release some more of his own work. But until then I will give golden the chance it deserves.

Since FIFA he has forged ahead into new music genres and been a disruptor in K-pop: Tatoos, piercings, all English explicit lyrics, smoking openly, unconventional Live sessions ….. JK is just getting started.

In the recent US interview with Bang PD, he said Jungkook wasn't planning on releasing an album. BP also doesn't write n produce their own songs, so what? They become the biggest K-POP Girl Group globally. They don't even have a lot of songs but they're highly marketable & I can say each of the members are successful. All these complainers need to get a life. He has said he wants to sing all genres not write all genres. He is already so successful in writing and performance. He can write when he wants to. Euphoria was done by DJ Swivel, not DJ Snake. And, yes. JK was in control of his album. The look, feel, sound, tracks, promotions, everything that gave it life. JK made Golden exactly how he wanted. I enjoy it for what it is, but I do find more enjoyment in his music.

Good points. I’m not one that is hung up on incredible singers/performers having to write their own music as the combination of good writers and good performers is magic (V is a good example of that but also Whitney Houston and lots of others). JK was clearly in a bit of a “rest” period that I’m not sure was super healthy but was understandable. He does seem happier being active again, so for that I’m glad he got a project to do. BangPD’s recent Bloomberg interview also said JK wasn’t planning to do an album but Scooter collected songs for him. My disappointment is that there are things in Seven and 3D that are not at the standards of BTS, or what we have seen JK do on previous solos when he had the feedback of RM and other members. It feels like the first 2 songs and maybe the album is rushed and not fully vetted for quality. It makes me wonder with the language differences if he really knew the double meanings of the lyrics or how words were used in these songs (maybe he did but there are subtle thing he has said or reacted to that makes me wonder), or how much control he had with the features. How much control did he have or take on the overall project or did he just come in and sing. For me it will be telling to see what happens after the military. What did he learn from doing this project? Will he continue down this path and fit himself into the uninspiring western mold like so many others controlled by the western music industry, or will he choose to transcend it and bring BTS’ and his own creative genius back into his solo work. I hope it is the latter. I still think he and other BTS members do not fully understand how much they are loved worldwide and that they could sing the phonebook and break records. They have the power to do what they want at a level of quality they want.
